The Nintendo DS has become the best selling console in European history, Nintendo's boasted.
The DS family, including DS Lite and DSi, have shifted over 40 million units in Europe, it says, and the handheld's achieved the milestone in less than five years - a new console record.
In similar sales number willy-waving, the platform holder's claimed that Wii has become the fastest selling home console in Europe by reaching the 20 million milestone in just over three years.
On the software side, Wii Sports Resort has shifted around five million copies in the five months since its launch in late July.
More baffling numbers come in the form of New Super Mario Bros. Wii's 2.5 million copies sold since November, and Nintendo claims that nearly half of all European Wii owners also now own either Wii Fit or the new Wii Fit Plus (that's 9.6 million balance boards).
How do they sleep at night? Yes - on a pile of money, with many beautiful ladies.
Gratz again to nintendo, but i'm sure that this will be the first article of the new year for fanboy rants and Ninty bashing. So why not use it for something more pleasant like what did everyone get for Xmas....

So Mario's sold 2.5mil in Europe as well? Its done about the same in both Japan and the US, so globally it'll be on around 7-8mil already. Not that far behind MW 2 surely?
Personally I'd be interested in what console is actually the best selling in Europe, as they're counting sales of all the DS models rather than individual ones.
