Sony has launched its Digital Comics service on the PlayStation Network, which allows you to flick through loads of comics using your PSP.
"PlayStation Network launched a new digital comics service for the PSP system today," explained Grace Chen, senior manager of the PlayStation Store. "As you already know, PSP firmware update v6.20 included a Digital Comics reader application that is accessible under the Extras icon on the XMB.
"Starting today, you can access hundreds of digital comics on PlayStation Store, directly on the PSP or via MediaGo (on the PC). You will notice a new 'tab' for comics, next to the game and video tabs."
Let your fellow CVG readers know what you think if you've already ploughed through the comics.
There's a huge list of what's available on the PS Blog.

One's in bold are good ones to start with..Imo. Can't recommend Ed Brubaker (Ie Captain America and Immortal Iron Fist) enough, and Joss Whedon's run on Astonishing was very good too. Shame with all the GI Joe stuff they didnt put GI Joe cobra, though the main series is good enough to read.
No it is in Europe too. I checked it back at about 5pm. I think there were 14 free ones there. I previewed the service a few weeks ago. The digital player is quite good and the amount of comics at present is quite good. Not sure I want to pay for comics though so I'll just nab the freebies!

Odd, they said on the website it was US only, but thanks for clearing that up.
Pah, there's no Preacher on there. Or much else by Ennis and Dhillion. Some Mark Miller stuff like Chosen wouldn't go amiss either.
Haven't read Slaine:The Horned God in years though so might have a shufftie through that. Warp Spasm's ahoy!
DC/Vertigo seem to be a bit behind on the old digitalization. But could you imagine kids reading ANYTHING by Ennis? That would scar them for life...like that page in the first issue of Alias with Luke Cage and Jess.. damn you Bendis, I did not want to see that.
They're working on the Manga apparently. Its only the launch stuff...I'd like to see some Oni and Image on there. Invincible and Queen and Country are definitely needed.

The MAX imprint was pretty risque but it just didn't sit right with me. Alias i only read the first few issues but the MAX Punisher series was just too gritty and Castle looked like a man at deaths door. I much prefered Ennis and Dhillion's arc starting with "Welcome back Frank", it had a good mix of grit and humour and some great characters in Soap, the Russian and Mr Payback. Once they moved it onto MAX i felt it lost too much of the humour and it just got far too dark. They pretty much tore the "welcome back Frank" story to shreds to make that s**tty Punisher movie with Travolta in it.
As opposed to the current 'Frankencastle'? As much as i love Rick Remender (Fear Agent FTW) it seems to have gone a bit awol of late. The Max series is supposedly set in reality, thus Frank would be in his late 50s-60s? Thats why it looked that way, at least thats what Remender said in an interview. I read Supreme Power on Max..that was a good pre-The Boys look at the Darker side of Superheroes in a more modern context then Watchmen...and Alias is well worth giving another chance if you get the time.

TBH i haven't picked anything up in a few years since i was moved off the road into a nice office job. And my nearest source is Forbidden Planet in either Glasgow or Edinburgh so its a wee journey to get there. I kinda gave up round about the time of the House of M storyline and haven't really been bothered picking anything back up.
Ahh the Forbidden Planet in Glasgow. Tiny and full of people in the manga section trying to get past the over large chucky dolls. Good times.
Don't forget the pungent aroma in the place either. It always stinks of stale body odour, don't know if its the staff or the customers but it f**kin stinks. The Edinburgh ones about twice the size but about a quarter as busy. Smells better though.

Awesome to see someone mention Invincible. One of my favourite Comic books of all time. The Walking Dead would be welcome as well (in fact anything by Kirkman is Gold although im still not 100% about Haunt...).
To be honest though this lineup is dreadful. GI Joe Star Trek and Mickey Mouse comics but no decent bits from IDW, Boom or Image? There is a tonne of comics that dont fall into the Marvel / DC lineups that deserve plenty of attention yet have a decent chance with a format like this.
Id like to see Greek Street, The Boys, Locke & Key et al released to give PSP owners a glimpse at what non mainstream comics have to offer. Or you could always CFW up your PSP and download Comic Book Reader for the PSP ... Oh and before anyone kicks off with the piracy thing i also buy 4-5 comics a month so have no qualms about D'ling my pull list to run on my PSP (probably one of the only reasons to own one to be honest...)
Kirkman's work these days is better than it used to be..Ultimate Xmen was a disaster. Locke and Key oddly enough turned up this week, so perhaps someone was listening to you..
As for 4-5 comics...when i could afford it i was doing 15+ per month. Now its all trades when i can afford it...sigh.
Ahh for the old days of Tim Hunter and Mark Waid's Flash....
