I won't believe that they didn't give it top scores to a Square game. They gave top scores to DQIX and FFXII (which is a great game, but not the best in the series).
I'm very much looking forward to this title launching in the West. Looking forward to non-Japanese reviews of the game as well to see if its appearance of brilliance is reaffirmed by more Western tastes.

I reckon the reviews will be positive overall, but it will suffer lots of the forum hate that GTA IV got.
I'm hoping the game mechanics will play more like FFVII or FFIX rather than FFXII. Always enjoyed the series but the ones from FFX onwards have not been as good, IMO.
In the West only FPSs and sandbox games seem to be given perfect results by the majority. In the East only RPGs. Sweeping statement i know, but true none the less. I would be very surprised if it got less than 39 in Famitsu.
Look, guys, it got a score of 39, get over it. Only one Final Fantasy game has ever got full marks from Famitsu, and that was Final Fantasy XII. Aparrently it lost a mark because...
"Famitsu praised the game's cut scenes as well as the battle system and the high level of strategy it offers. Interestingly, one Famitsu reviewer noted how up until the mid-way point of the game, the story seemed be linear and that it didn't offer any new "gimmicks" in its story telling."
Here are the other score if you are interested.
Final Fantasy I - 35 Final Fantasy II - 35 Final Fantasy III - 36 Final Fantasy Ⅳ - 36 Final Fantasy V - 34 Final Fantasy VI - 37 Final Fantasy VII - 38 Final Fantasy VIII - 37 Final Fantasy IX - 38 Final Fantasy X - 39 Final Fantasy XI - 38 Final Fantasy XII- 40 Final Fantasy XIII - 39

The last Final Fantasy I played... the one with the airships in it- was beyond awful. Someone on here actually warned me as I started playing it that I was in for one hell of a tedious grind fest. He wasn't wrong.
Still, grind fest or not, Famitsu must've given it a whopping great score- so their reviews mean bugger all to me. I hope it's good... but so far it's looking like the stereotypical teenage whinge fest that Square seem to enjoy so much. Albeit, wrapped in pretty graphics.

Final Fantasy 10 better than 7... b******s.
Only according to scores noted by (most probably) different people with different views on games etc. The only score that matters is the one you award a title. How did FF XIII score lower than the 360 Bayonetta? I know which way round I would do it.
