Two US game retailers have listed April as the month that EA will release its South Africa 2010 World Cup FIFA Edition, or whatever it'll be called when they announce it.
Both Amazon and Gamefly have pinned the tail on the donkey (hopefully not England) and named April 27 as the launch day for a FIFA-branded footy game (thanks Kotaku).
Now before you get excited note that EA hasn't officially said it's doing a World Cup game for next year's event. It has for all the previous ones, and April 27 is a Tuesday, when games go on sale in the US, so it looks odds-on to us. We'll let you know when they announce it.

Why don't they release this as premium dlc for FIFA 10? That way people who already own FIFA 10 don't feel hard done buy, but EA can still claim loads of cash because to play the world cup you need FIFA 10 and the dlc. They could even release a GOTY edition complete with dlc code.

Come on EA get with the times!
That echoes my feelings about how EA handle FIFA 100% I avoided buying FIFA 10 as I knew the WC edition was a certainty and I wasn't bored of 09 yet.
I think the only way they'll release a fully featured FIFA, is if Konami were to win a legal challenge for the FIFA license to be opened up for other developers, then EA would have to pack out their game with a proper WC mode.
Got fed up with FIFA after all the scumbag cheats altered their player stats on 09 and transfered all the worlds best players into their rubbish teams! Fifa10 was not worth £40 for cosmetic changes & now this!
I don't think DLC will be the way they go and I don't blame them.....
FIFA10 is the best footy game I've played - and I was an avid PES fanboy before, slagged off FIFA before playing it, but loved it once i got to grips with it....
there's a few international teams missing on the out the box version - like ivory coast - and the only thing PES seemed to have over FIFA was dynamic lighting effects and how much better the models looked when standing still (they look rubbish moving compared)
I think a slightly better polished fifa10 engine, all the international teams in WC qualifiying, all the african stadia and perhaps stadia and classic teams from previous world cups would make this a worthwhile purchase even if you have fifa10 already...maybe being able to relive classic matches such as england argentina, all the brazil italy clashes....yeah - i'd buy it.....
but dlc - i'm not so sure....i don want it tacked on

I got PES2010 the other day and its fantastic and the best PES since PES4 for me.
If they do release it as a 'new' game, seperate from Fifa 10, i'll be interested to see how it goes down. I only play Fifa 10 in online be a pro match mode, and a seperate game could end up prematurely destroying the clubs and leagues built up around this feature.
I think Skyblue's idea with DLC and GOTY editions covering current and potential owners is the way forward.
