Ladbrokes has made Modern Warfare 2 the odds-on favourite to be the best selling game this Christmas.
With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 currently sitting at the top of the all-format charts, Ladbrokes announced that it will be the odds-on favourite to be number one at Christmas as well, with odds of 1/10.
"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the stand-out game and it is the shortest odds we have ever offered for a festive Number One contender," said Ladbrokes spokesman, Nick Weinberg. "Assassin's Creed II is probably the best of the rest, but it will take a monumental effort to topple Modern Warfare 2 this close to Christmas."
Assassin's Creed II, Wii Sports Resort and FIFA 10 have all held the second spot in the all-formats charts, which is reflected in the odds below. But does anyone honestly think any of these games will topple Modern Warfare 2? We certainly don't. This is barring a last-minute Facebook campaign, obviously...
Defo a toss up between MW2 and Fifa 10 for the crimbo No:1. Fifa's always there abouts. But no PS3 exclusive in that list, though the only likely exclusive No:1's these days are Wii ones.
Maxed out (achievements wise) MW2 the other week (though I'm of course keeping it thanks to the multiplayer). Maxed out Assassin's Creed II last night, brilliant game and quite long if you try and do everything in the game. Stuck it on eBay for £29.99, and within 30 minutes someone had bought it.
Use smoke bombs to kill 10 people without being hit, quite easy then. The other combat ones are fairly easy, though you've got to steal/pickup a long-range weapon (and spend 10000F to learn how to use it) to sweep 5 guards off their feet.
I'm not bothered about the gaming Xmas number one to be honest as I have all the games I wanted this year and cannot wait for the start of next year for all the games out then.
The games publishers need to start spanning some of these triple AAA games over the year, take Battlefield 1943, that sold X amount of times over XBOX LIVE and PSN, and it was released over the summer, it just goes to show that the consumer wants good titles all year round.
