Modern Warfare 2 still most played Live game

In spite of glitches, gamers keep coming back
Major Nelson's Live Activity charts show that Modern Warfare 2 remains the most played game on Xbox Live despite its recent glitches and a bit of a gamer backlash.

Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer hasn't had the best of times recently. First there was the Javelin glitch, where players could essentially turn themselves into suicide bombers. Then when Infinity Ward patched that up, matchmaking problems and an infinite ammo glitch emerged.

Still, it remains the most played game on Xbox Live, ahead of Halo 3, Call of Duty: World at War and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Not that it will calm players suffering from a constant bombardment of grenade launcher rounds and thrown knives but at least it will give Infinity Ward something to smile about while they clamp down on the latest leaks in the game's netcode...

  • 1 Modern Warfare 2
  • 2 Halo 3
  • 3 Call of Duty: WaW
  • 4 Call of Duty 4
  • 5 Left 4 Dead 2
  • 6 FIFA 10
  • 7 Assassin's Creed II
  • 8 GTA IV
  • 9 Madden NFL 10
  • 10 Gears of War 2

3 call of duty titles each spanning from several years, and still in top 5, ..quite impressive despite the bugfest.

I remember when a game would be released on a console and would work perfectly from the get-go. Just because most people have an internet connection and online play, doesn't mean the quality of the product should suffer. It's just sheer laziness on the developers part. The amount of patches for this is taking the p**s.

Of course its just a shooter box.

With all these glitches maybe that lack of public beta idea isnt looking so smart now.

I got caught up in an infinate ammo glitch game last night, it was complete carnage, and a bit unplayable really, however if they finetune it they could create the same riddiculous fun as HAlo 3 team rockets.

This is the best MW2 glitch...

They're releasing that bug fiesta to try people.
Next thing they'll promise to release fully tested product for a small amount of ours pounds monthly. Dedicated servers etc
The worst thing is they'll succeed, like they did with extra maps.

I see COD MW2 as a casual shooter. I don't mind the game, but it really is just a casual blast online.

Halo is a lot more strategic if you play it properly with 3 mates. To win ranked games you have to work as a team, I never play like that with COD, I just join a random game and find I am pretty much out for myself because nobody really listens. The same goes if I have a few mates in my party, its just casual.

I'm bored with COD online these days. So you can count me towards the numbers keeping Halo 3, a 2 year old game, at the number two position. I'm sure it will see that 1st place slot again at some point.

I would however like to see MS release a Top 20 list as producing just a Top 10 has become rather stale as it never really changes that much.

Very little excitement in seeing whether COD or Halo resides at the top.
