Bungie has come good on its promise and released the first in-engine footage of Halo Reach at the Video Game Awards 2009.
Update: The first word on a date for the Halo Reach beta has come to light via a charity auction listing (spotted by Kotaku) which says the multiplayer event will start no earlier than April 28. All eyes are now firmly on the month of May. Update out.
It may not show gameplay but the fact it's an in engine cutscene shows exactly what the graphics will be in game. Pretty impressive in my opinion can't think of any other game that looks better even looks better than UC2, and don't argue these are what the actual game will be like confirmed by bungie and geoff keighley and considering there's nearly a year of dev left I'm pretty impressed
That may be representative of what the game will look like, but those are NOT in-game graphics. Want proof? Just look at Halo 3 & ODST.
The trailer is said to be from an opening cinematic, which means if it's on the game disk it's in-game graphics. The Halo 3 trailer wasn't in the final game, just something they mocked up to give the world a first-time glimpse.
Anyway, awesome first look and I can't wait for the Beta.
This is proper ingame and it looks very nice but I wouldn't say any nicer than Resistance 2 at present.
Uncharted 2 is much smoother and the backgrounds and characters are more detailed, check out the blackheads on Drake's nose.
Hope this is a full blwon game and not 4 hours or so and if it is then, with the promising Alan Wake on route, I may just have to get another Xbox 360.
The graphics looks immense, they remind me of Call of Duty and Gears of War now. These graphics make Halo 3's graphics look like a cartoony joke in my opinion.
Also, as always in a Halo/Bungie game, the music is absolutely fantastic.
OMG OMG random hand flailing i cant w8 for this looks awesome and every should know graphics will be like that with modern tech wont be a let down and plz no ps3 fanboy moaning about uncharted or Resistance we only want refernces to good games lol

I'm already getting really excited, bring it on!
Yep, Marty's on form! Can't wait to fight the Elites again too.

Oh yeah, I forgot mention this. I love fighting Elites, Brutes are no where near as fun to fight.
looks nice but i'm still going to wait and see if it turns out like this.
they showed a trailer at e3 2006 that was supposed to be in engine but when the game launched it looked nowhere near as good: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2k6-halo-3/10453
You just know that Bungie wont go out on a dud, perhaps saving their best till last?
Last my bottom - they'll be back

What a daft thing to say. That's like looking at a trailer for Doom 3 and saying "those are NOT in-game graphics. Want proof? Just look at Doom & Doom II"
Looking absolutely fantastic in my opinion. Not top notch, most certainly, but it looks like a massive leap forward graphically. But any gamer with any amount of intelligence (I'm looking at you, 50% of the CVG population) knows that it's not all about graphics, and you just know it will have superb gameplay by the bucketload.
No John 117 though, by the looks of it. I do really hope he is a playable character in some portion of the game or at least heavily featured in the story.

let's not get too carried away yet.
The difference between the trailers, is that for Reach, it is an actual scene from the game going by what Bungie have stated. The E3 trailer for Halo 3 one wasn't in the final game.
All of the game cut-scenes have been representative of the gameplay segments in previous entries, so if Bungie are telling the truth and this is one of the opening scenes, I'd say it's safe to say the game will look stellar.
So, I'm the only one that thinks this looks abit 'meh' eh? Like, we've seen it all before, ya know? Looks pretty, don't get me wrong, but certainly feels like I've seen it all before.
loved halo 3 was dissapointed with odst but this is looking awesome. It may only be in engine and not in game but this has got me more hyped than any odst trailer did.
It might be using the graphics engine but don't forget that in a cutscene you don't need to take up any processor time with rendering the game world on the fly and actually running the game.
Take out all the routines associated with actually making the game work and you take a fair load off the machine. No player controls, no enemy ai etc ect!
It may be representative but the ingame graphics wont look quite as nice I would imagine.
Oh yeah! It's time to kick some alien ass once more! HOOYAH!
Btw, did anyone else pick up on the potential hidden meaning with the release announcement of "falls 2010"? This is "Reach" afterall; we know it has to fall to the Covenant if they stick with existing Halo cannon.
ODST was a lot more admospheric than this. The gfx are ok. Gears is better and a lot of sub-par shooters are on par with this. So it has better animated faces, so freakin what. The rest you saw was flat freakin desert. Show me a map thats on par with the detail of U2's Nepal map, THEN we'll talk.
So, I'm the only one that thinks this looks abit 'meh' eh? Like, we've seen it all before, ya know? Looks pretty, don't get me wrong, but certainly feels like I've seen it all before.
Dude, surely the same could be said about Mario or Zelda? There are a lot of games that are older than Halo and people seem to let it slide coz it's a game they grew up playing maybe?
Thing is, if they changed too much, people would moan that they wer breaking cannon, or making the game too different!
Personally, I think it looks fantastic! Can't wait. Does anyone else think that the C.O. looks like John Forge? lol. Just a thought

know what you mean, but then again, it can be applied to all sci fi fps's???
Going to say right now that I absolutely hate Halo, I could never actually understand it.. and well the amount of kids that play it (screaming down the mic) is unneeded.
However just watched that trailer out of curiosity, and go out on a limb and say this.. But some parts of that trailer looked near-real, especially the start with the hog going in the field. I may just get this in all honesty.. Cinematic looked impressive, and finally Bungie are showing superiority.

Unfortunately, the lower than 18 rating means that a lot of parents find it acceptable to give this to their kids. You have to try and ignore that (the 2-click mute option makes this very easy).
It may be a strange thing to be impressed by, but I've never seen in-game graphics render moving helicopter propellers as they are in that trailer.
Better graphics than uncharted 2 ? WTF are you lolbox 360 fans drinking ? It aint even killzone 2 quality , Oh and it will probably come on 7 dvd's lmao.
7 dvd's? I'll take ya up on that bet- how much? Bloody fanboys... out! Go on, all of ya! Out! Bad Fanboy! Bad! (swings rolled up newspaper about)- apologies, I'm usually against cruelty to simple creatures.
Well, I'm hyped for this, this video is only the tip of the iceberg- It's only going to look better and better. Looks like the scale is going to be much, much bigger this time judging by by the size of the environment. I'm constantly being suprised at how much the 360 can be pushed- can't wait!
Let the haters come- if they haven't got anything better to do then... well, I pity them (shouldn't they be playing their 'superior' games anyway?).

At the end of the day, no matter how much the haters slag off Halo and everything to do with it, it makes absolutely no difference to how much enjoyment I get out of it.
I just feel sorry for these people to be honest, because they're the ones that are missing out.
It looks pretty sweet, but then it is only a cut scene rendered in game so it won’t quite look like that during gameplay. Though as long as I get to shoot some more things in the face I won’t really be that bothered about all the technical hojamaflips as I don’t understand any of it anyway, I just like things that go ‘pew pew’ and followed by a gurgle and a splat.
I loved the original halo and thought 2 was ok and to be honest didn'[t really play 3 that much although thats not to say i wasn't impressed - just had enough of fps's for a while and was more into sports stuff online - then i got odst mainly for the multiplayer and got to say i loved it - very atmospheric but far too short - BUT - the firefight is brill...me and a friend often do the splitscreen on this for ages - its so good, much better than the waves and co op stuff for MW2 - -
as for you ps3 fanboys, you know you wish killzone was half as good as halo - i've played both and prefer halo for st8 up action, multiplayer and dedication by its players.
ps3 fanboys are the worst, they moan about halo though they know there is nothing really that can match it on their system - resistence 2? - ni**a please - even trying to compare that to halo is retarded - killzone 2 - nah, i don't think so - i can only take so much grey - what else is there....hmmmmm.....
i got a ps3 just for mgs and UC2 and i honestly prefer my 360 - better graphics on most multiplatform games, better feeling controls (esp for fps), faster, no rubbish installations, etc etc etc
i think reach will be the mutts nuts and am real glad i got odst for the beta.
.....heh....
you ps3 fanboys should go back to watching your bbc iplayer, the only advantage you really have
while i await the fanboys here is a list of recent games i have played on both systems that 360 does better
AC2 arkham asylum streetfigher IV fight night 4 fifa 10 pes 10 cod4 the orange box (not that recent i know) cod5
the only game i can think of better on ps3 than xblock is pes09 - i don;t know why but the controls seem more responsive - other than that i don' think there is anything better on ps3 than xblock...
if it wasn't for the next UC i don't think i would bother, and i like using the iplayer sometimes but prefer the way music sounds on my xblock....
i hear bayonetta rocks much better on 360 - famitsu pointed this out in their review, technical probs etc etc - 360 isn't perfect, some games have a little too much screen tearing for my liking, but the sharpness in most games makes up for this, and better controls. the ps3 pad might feel better in my hand, but the loose sticks are rubbish esp for fps, and streetfighter too .....
betcha MGS rising looks better too - there was a interview with kojima last year where he stated his team were developing mostly with the 360 as it was easier...heh...

Not sure why you felt the need to make this rather pointless list. I suppose the kind of noob that plays street fighter with analog sticks, one word for you: Hori.
Hmm... now that I think about it the graphics are definitely a tremendous improvement over Halo 3's.
To the people saying the environment looks generic let's not forget that this is a Halo game and there's definitely going to be a large variety of interesting and colourful environments that we just haven't seen yet, that's all.
Also, to the people saying the game won't look anywhere as good in-game as it looks in the cutscene, I do agree. However, Halo 3's cutscenes didn't look that much better than how it looked in-game so I'm guessing it's going to be the same with Reach. Just a minor difference.
Also, let's not forget that Halo: Reach will probably have huge outdoor environments and vehicle sections so of course the graphics aren't going to be as good as Killzone 2's (corridor shooter) because of all the crazy stuff that's going to be happening on screen all at once in Reach.
