Duke Nukem rises from the dead?

Screenshot for 'Duke Nukem: D Day' appears on internet
A screenshot for something called Duke Nukem: D Day has appeared on the internet.

The game, which appeared along with a screenshot on this mysterious Facebook page, could be a spin-off of the now deceased Duke Nukem Forever.

It's a real possibility too: Earlier this year Borderlands developer Gearbox was discovered to have - at one point at least - been working on a console Duke Nukem Forever spin-off called Duke Begins.

Alarm bells ring however with the information that the Facebook group is, according to Destructoid, run by a fan. Insider knowledge then, or cruel joke?

Seriously, just let this game die.

Moving swiftly on...

Please, don't let it die.

In a strange way, I think we will eventually see a Duke Nukem Game.

There is a court case pending (Take 2 v someone else?) and after thats concluded we will hopefully see the Duke kick some alien ass again.

3DRealms - the developers who "failed to deliver" the game.

Off the wagon again, I see Wink Don't worry, I'll get bored of reminding you about your lack of focus. Either that or I'll cave into the shame that I do exactly the same thing.

If Too Human can get released. I'm sure Duke will eventually. Its a crying shame becasue all the videos of the last build of Duke Nukem forever, looked like it was going to be something very special indeed.

duke nukem, forever, wish sony would buy what was done, and there must be quite a bit of work done on this allready, finish it off and stick it on psn, cmon
martinawatson on 30 Nov '09
*preps defribillator* CLEAR!

Live Duke Nukem, damn you, LIIIIIVE!!!!

I would come about as close to...doing something rash and drastic..as I would for any game to see a true masterpiece of a sequel completed and polished. It would have to be a bona fide masterpiece though! No zero day "critical errors" patches required.

Well, maybe not Sony as I have an ongoing perma-boycott going against them until SecuROM dies and/or they publicly apologize for creating that monstrosity and help clean up the mess left in its wake. I doubt either one will happen any time soon. Razz

Alternatively release a user tool set along with everything that has been completed (if there is anything other than what has been seen in video feeds that is,) and let the online modding community finish it as freeware.
The_KFD_Case on 30 Nov '09
Sigh...I think this is another has been that is going to go the same way as 'Heart of Darkness' and Toby Gard's 'Galleon'. These guys have missed the boat a long time ago and after Halo, Killzone, COD etc are people out there really interested?
I know I stopped caring yonks ago. This game was not bad back in the day, but now it just reeks of cheese, (Pass the crackers!).
Even if it does see the light of day, its bound to be an anti climax. In the words of Rambo...
"Let it go..." - Sorry Duke!

id buy it if sony got the shiz and wacked it on psn! And yet again kfd hates all things sony, has M$ baught your life and soul or something? Cool
bunneyo on 30 Nov '09
As far as fanboys who have sold their souls to giant faceless companies go, I'd say Bunneyo that you're pretty spot on (If your past comments are anything to go buy)- why, if I didn't know better I'd say Kaz Hirai himself had his arm stuck up your a**e and does the talking for you.

Anyway... I agree with Jon Ahmad there, the game was humorous because of it's tongue in cheek style- but I'm not sure that'd cut it nowadays. It'd have to be something very special indeed- and I think FPS's are fresh out of ideas.

Still, fingers crossed, eh?
MrPirtniw on 30 Nov '09
Even if it's a real Duke Nukem pic, I doubt it's from anything that is likely to be released, more likely a screen from the now dead project.

Not at all. I detest the bane upon humankind that is SecuROM, which was/is created by one of Sony's enterprises. It's one of the reasons my LCD TV is from LG and not Sony (that and I could get similar quality for less money). Cool MS do things I find deplorable as well, yet I have far more respect for Bill Gates than Kaz. I've called MS out on some of their more nefarious antics and I gladly do the same with Sony. I intend to keep pursuing that behaviour. Scummy anti-consumer antics are to be called out, contested and fought vehemently until the very end - bitter or otherwise. Twisted Evil
The_KFD_Case on 30 Nov '09
I'm pretty sure this game will get released at some point in the future. If not by a company then by some sort of mod group. It has way too much history, hype and notoriety to waste.

But yeah, I'd like to hear nothing more about it until the week before it's due to come out.
Serenity on 30 Nov '09
lol...yeah. I think Alan Wake is becoming very tedious as well now...by the time it comes out, some other similar title will probably steal its thunder!
(Hurry up Remedy - Damn You!)
As for the Duke...I agree with you...
TELL US TWENTY FOUR HOURS BEFORE YOU RELEASE IT!!!
