BioWare: PS3 "a key platform"

Focusing more on PS3, but Mass Effect conversion is "crazy talk"
BioWare is to place greater focus on PS3 going forward, with a pledge to handle all PS3 development in-house, says studio co-founder Greg Zeschuk.

"We think it's one of the key platforms, obviously, so we're definitely going to be doing PS3," he said.

"You know, I can't say anything about Mass Effect in that regard but you know, I can definitely say Dragon Age and other things we do will definitely be on PS3.

"It was great going through the experience of making Dragon Age, getting familiar with and understanding the PS3. Again, every platform is different, but now I think we're at the position where future PS3 stuff will be really solid," Zeschuk told Joystiq.

But when badgered on the possibility of Mass Effect shifting to PS3, Zeschuk said: "We're not saying anything about Mass Effect for PS3. I don't know anything about that! That's crazy talk."

Hmm that doesn't sound like a denial to me. Though going by what i've heard of the PS3 version of Dragon Age being a bit jittery its perhaps best that they don't until they've properly got to grips with the tech. Wouldn't rule out a Mass Effect double pack being released later on next year though.

Good to hear, but can somebody please put this ME PS3 rumour to bed, once and for all. Either say yay, or nay. It isn't hard. Mad

I think DA was one of the few PS3 ports that actually had more advantage over the 360 version, namely the textures being sharper. In fact, most sites said they'd take the PS3 version over the 360 one - which is rare.

Therefore, I'd say they did a better job than most, to be honest.

i dunno. It wouldn't surprise me if there was some condition in Biowares sale to EA that kept MAss Effect on MS platforms. in otherwords windows and the 360.

There's only one game left in the series arc anyway.

If you really wanted the original you would of bought a 360 or got it on the PC. Like Bioshock i couldn't see Mass effect shifting incredible numbers on PS3 as the fanbase already has the necessary platform to play it on.

yea the textures did look p**s poor on 360 imo, was quite suprised, mass effect will prob come to ps3 no doubt

I agree regarding Mass Effect coming to PS3. The only reason that I believe that to be true is because when anybody asked Hideo whether MGS4 was going to be ported to the 360, he always said no. All bioware seem to be doing is denying it.

Yeah i have heard that the textures are a lot better on the PS3 version but the game has a habit of freezing for a few seconds when something happens and during dialogue. I don't know if this has been patched though. I was considering getting the PS3 version myself after hearing about the uglyness of the 360 one but i've far too many other games to get through before playing something as time consuming as DA.
The pauses are probably fine in a turn based game like Dragon Age but the combat in Mass Effect is done more like a shooter so any sort of unexpected break in the action would be quite bad. Like i said that problem may have been sorted out by a patch. And i do think that PS3 owners should get to play Mass Effect as its a brilliant game, as long as its a perfect port or actually built up from scratch for the PS3. Hell i'd probably get it for PS3 as well if a double pack came out as its just that good.

No. I had both versions and I feel PS3 version looks better. Some people on NeoGAF said the same.

I have my doubts about any of the "Mass Effect" games ever making it to the PS3. It's wishful thinking on some PS3 owners part, as far as I can tell. What BioWare is currently doing is sweet talking the PS3 crowd in an effort to avoid negative press thus making it more likely a backlash can be avoided when BioWare does release games for the PS3, such as with "Dragon Age: Origins" while avoiding burning any bridges should MS and EA somehow reach an agreement regarding "ME". I think it more likely that the PS3 crowd will have to look to new IPs by BioWare and EA.

The combat in "Dragon Age" can be turn-based or not as you choose. On the PC it's a breeze to handle the numerous controls and the combat is quite frenetic at times; sometime the fight will be over before you even really had a chance to close with the enemy if you have ranged attacks. I use the tactical button to pause and give a few orders now and then in critical situations. For the most part I let the party members execute the tactics setup I have programmed for them and am quite happy to pound away at filthy darkspawn and others! Twisted Evil

i think thier skipping around it, its like they want to say its comming but at the same time dont wanna say it is, i can see it comming to ps3, as well as another certain game in a years time

As i said above it was a freezing issue i was meaning. Everything i've read has said the PS3 version looks a hell of a lot better. Any head 2 heads i've read have put the PS3 version ahead but have commented on the game having a slight pause appear every so often and that would break the combat in Mass Effect. Again that may have been sorted out by a patch and if i was to pick the game up i'd probably go for the PS3 one. As i usually do with most single player games.
ensabahnur on 27 Nov '09
More likley than not Mass Effect will eventually be released on PS3 if EA has anything to do with it.
The problem is if the interest will be there?
We've already seen with Bioshock that anyone who wanted to play the game did so on either 360 or PC at release. No one really cared about the PS3 port.
MGS2 on Xbox 1 is another example.
If they wanted they want to seriously turn a profit, they should have already ported over Mass Effect 1 by now and be releasing the sequel 6 or so months after release on 360.

Are you saying Mass Effect had no pauses during the combat? I must have played a different Mass Effect.

Dragon age does look a bit better on ps3 than 360, but the framerate at certain parts of the game suffers on the ps3(it's smoother on 360).

It depends what you prefer, improved graphics or a better framerate.
Runs fantastic on my pc at 1920x1080 with everything on very high Wink

It's nice to see the ps3 getting a multiplatform game that looks better on ps3 though, shame it comes at a slight cost with the framerate.

The only other game i can remember looking better on ps3 was the last tomb raider game(that looked better on ps3 compared to the 360 one).
But they used the old tomb raider legend dated engine on the 360 game(was always dodgy), they used a better engine for the ps3 one(again though it had bad framerate issues compared to the 360 one).
blagger on 27 Nov '09
lots of people whove played the ps3 version dont complain bout frame rate, i might ask a few more later
Miss_Wacy on 27 Nov '09
I didn't buy Dragon Age for the graphics, I bought it for the story and characters, and I was very impressed.

I'm not bothered that the 360 version is lacking in visuals since my main character is normally dressed like the Tin Man so all looks the same to me.

From what I've read and heard the PS3 version looks a little better, but stutters more when in motion... nothing really surprising there... better textures should be a given taking into account the storage size of Blu-Ray, but limiting graphics RAM to 256Mb was always going to mean slow down when a lot was happening on screen.
