An image of what appears to be the back of the Final Fantasy XIII box has confirmed the RPG's rather friendly memory management.
When the game eventually hits Japan next month, it won't require a mandatory hard drive install and game saves too come in at a tiny 500kb. Great news for PS3 owners who've filled up their hard drives with dodgy late night PlayTV recordings, then.
The image also confirms that the PS3 version will sport high quality LPCM 5.1 audio and CGI cut-scenes are encoded in full 1080p, while the game itself runs in 720p.
The long-awaited RPG has at last been dated for March 9, 2010 in Europe and North America, on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Great news for PS3 owners who've filled up their hard drives
Err... newsflash: PS3 owners don't give a toss about HD space. We have too little? We buy a bigger one. And as cheap as we can find. This news is good for the "other" console my good "unbiast" C+VG.

You have to take into consideration the amount of people out there who don't want to attach a normal HDD to their PS3s or aren't even aware that it's possible. And even so you're still filling up your HDD, and having to constantly move stuff over or switching HDDs isn't something anyone would want to do.
And this isn't "good news" for the "other console" as no 360 game has mandatory installs

But most Xbox 360 owners install games to keep it quiet
I INSTALL GAMES!!!!!!!! there you go nice and loud. some times it gives some real benefits. sometimes it doesn't.
Most open world games such as Borderlands, Fallout and GTA get noticeable load time improvements.
If you got the space Multidisc RPGs are worth sticking on their too (especially if you are lazy) as you no longer have to change the discs.
Installing stuff on the 360 can bring benefits to performance.
On the ps3 you just have to.
On a side note i installed a 320 gb hdd into my ps3 and its already eaten about 40gb in installs, and i've only got 12 games.
You're steadily inching towards PC land. I wonder when/if consoles will end up openly being what they are increasingly becoming: low-to-mid end PCs? In a generation or two perhaps?
Oh! And I don't install any of my Xbox 360 games to its hard drive - I don't notice the noise anymore once the games are in play and besides, my surround sound system easily drowns it out completely. I do look forward to this upcoming FF game though! Looks fantastic, now let's hope it's also got some innovation.

Not True, FFXI has a mandatory install. Why does everyone forget about 360's only MMORPG? People bang on like FFXIII is going to be the greatest thing ever, yet there is already a great Final Fantasy game already on the 360!
installs on the 360 can be a bit hit and miss, gta 4 and halo 3 didn't work out too well off the hdd while burnout revenge, oblivion, fable 2 etc.. all run better.
the one game above all though that benefits is mass effect,it runs like a dog off disc but is improved in all areas off hdd.
i'll be installing the 360 version of FFXIII as soon as i get it,i get the feeling the 360's gonna get hot while running it and an hdd install will help the machine run cooler.

Yeah, I'm kinda the same. So far the only games I've installed were Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fable 2 but deleted them after I stopped playing them. But the point still stands that at least we have the choice

Isn't it the PlayOnline Viewer that you have to install rather than the game?
who cares if it did have a mandatory install.. just upgrade ya hard drive size. 40GB or even 80GB is never gunna be enough, especially if you have a big game catalogue and PlayTV at the same time. I've got a 500GB hard drive, and for the forseeable future, i could give a flying f#ck if the games made me mandatory install 10GB each. The PS3 has solutions, dudbox doesn't (without paying out your *ss!)
