Nintendo believes it can attract new gamers to the Zelda series with new DS entry, Spirit Tracks, it's said.
The game, which hits shelves on December 11, is being backed by a wide-scale UK TV campaign as Nintendo looks to attract 'occasional gamers' who've previously picked up Brain Training and Professor Layton.
"This is certainly a Zelda title that can be expanded out to a broader audience," product manager Roger Langford said in the latest issue of MCV.

"Initially at launch we will be concentrating on our passionate Zelda fanbase, ensuring that they all know that the latest title is out there.
"Moving forward we can leverage the DS installed base and broaden the demographic out so that hopefully those that enjoy our titles such as Brain Training and Professor Layton will be exposed to the adventure and puzzle elements of Spirit Tracks," Langford said.
It sounds like a fair punt to us. It'd also be bizarre and brilliant to be able to buy mum a copy of Zelda for Christmas.
Great, so I've got to steel myself for more soul-destroying Nintendo adverts over Christmas. Every time I see Ant and Dec talking about the Wii it makes me want to throw mine out of the window.
Most 'casual gamers' don't have the patience, skills or interest to play Zelda. Not all the way through anyway. But then I suppose Nintendo doesn't care if they play to the end, they just want more people to buy it. Or maybe they've dumbed this Zelda down.
Remember that Nintendo patent for the in-game DVD-style scene selection, where the illustration showed a Zelda-type game? Wonder if that'll show up in Wii Zelda to make it more casual-friendly?
Don't watch the adverts then. I don't and when they do come on, I change the channel. My friend told me about the afwul Mario Bros one and I've refused to even Youtube it. Its a shame that Nintendo have chosen to use the two midgets for their ads but that doesn't make the games crap...
And is if the the general 'tarded public will be able to handle this game. If it works for Nintendo though, great...
Hey Parma, if you come on this thread I just wanted to say: my Vultures tickets arrived yesterday!
Jesus, Nintendo... STOP DESTROYING THE INTEGRITY OF YOUR FRANCHAISES BY TRYING TO APPEAL TO CASUAL OR NON-GAMERS. I miss the Nintendo of old? Anyone else with me? And yes, those Ant and Dec adverts are god awful.
Every Zelda game attracts the mainstream. Has it really come to this that Nintendo have to stress the fact that theyre still making games for gamers. All because of this stupid Casual/Hardcore rubbish, a good game is a good game period. Its not Nintendo's fault for having to make the fact that their games are for real gamers its the ignorant gamers fault for their constant bickering that Nintendo are only making "casual" games and to be fair they've only really made 2, Wii Sports and Wii Fit and Wii Fit isn't even a game its a lifestyle piece of software, if you dont like it dont buy it and stop complaining.
Zelda Spirit Tracks looks really good by the way I'll definitely be buying it.
Anyone who isn't casual will probably buy Zelda anyway so why not focus adverts on everyone else, there's no point preaching to the right choir if they're already hanging off your every word.
I'm just extremely annoyed that I accidentally left it too late and missed out on getting the Collector's Edition from GAME. Really should of been named "Limited Edition" instead for once

So, what you're saying is, the integrity of the Zelda franchise will be destroyed if a 'casual' gamer picks it up and plays it?
everybody has to start somewhere right. I think i was a non gamer untill i picked a controller and started playing, then i found it enjoyable and started playing different, more complex games.
I feel sorry for Nintendo, they can never seem to get anything right.
Do you know what the real funny thing is though. The biggest casual title of the seasons already been released and its not a Nintendo title at all. that award goes to MW2.
