Expectedly, Sony and Microsoft have both reported phenomenal console numbers during the usually sales-heavy Thanksgiving period in North America.
Sony's reported selling more than 440,000 PlayStation 3s for the week ending November 29, while MS says only that it's had its "best sales week of the year" for Xbox 360.
"The 2009 holiday season got off to an amazing start for PlayStation, with all key retailers showing a significant increase for PS3, PSP and key holiday titles over Black Friday and the holiday weekend," said Sony's sr. corporate communications director, Patrick Seybol.
"PlayStation 3 demand was at an all time high with the system selling more than 440,000 units for the week ending 11/29/09."
Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg added, in the rather less formal vehicle of his Twitter: "Great #BlackFriday results just in, biggest sales week of the year for #Xbox360, more than 2xs previous week sales."
In the same Thanksgiving week Nintendo shifted over 550,000 Wiis - and if you want to include Nintendo DS and DSi, it moved 1.5 million consoles. Prints. Money.
I'm a bit reluctant to mention it, CVG, yet it looks like someone's finger slipped while typing in the header. It happens to the best of us that a finger slips and presses the "k" key instead of "l".
See: "biggest sakes week of the year".
Impressive figures coming from all three contenders by the sound of it. I am curious as to the exact number MS shifted. I suppose one could get a fairly accurate estimate by looking at the previously best weekly sales this year and doubling them or more.
I was in Augusta and it was pretty busy over that period. I even managed to get some shopping in myself
So how's the weather in Georgia?
I got back on Sunday (Absolutely shattered right now. Jetlag of course ) Weather was rather nice though. I spent 2 weeks over there. We had 2 days of rain but the rest of the time it was sunny. About 20 degrees. I got a sharp shock coming home I tell you. Freeeeezing!

I can imagine. It seems to me the temperature has dropped noticeably over the past week. Combined with an increase in fierce winds over the past few weeks and all that's missing is sleet, ice and snow. Since this is the official first day of Winter I suppose it's fitting. Sounds like you had a good trip.

Be prepared for the horde of CVG fanboys to come and rip you a new asshole for pointing that out KFD. I pointed out something incorrect in an article about a month ago and I had a bunch of defensive bastards jump on my back about it. It seems funny that some people can complain about errors but be praised (by their buttbuddies), whilst at other times other people (like me) get stick for pointing out the same sort of errors (probably because I don't have or want a buttbuddy).
I totally agree with you though, obviously someone was too impatient to correctly read through that short article and make sure it was worded properly before hitting the upload button.

It was excellent! The ladies LOVE the English accent.
Saying that, 550000 and 440000 in one week is tremendous. No doubt the 360 was there or thereabouts. Mark240473 on 1 Dec '09
Its kind of odd Microsoft are being cagey about how many they sold isn't it? Twice as much as the previous week? Well I sold twice as many PS4's and XBOX 720's than the previous week too.
We could deduce it wasn't more than the Wii because the Wii just sells mentally anyway
Similarly we can deduce it wasn't more or equal to the PS3 because that would be something to shout about.
I'm guessing it sold in the 300,000 to 350,000 range. Still pretty good really... just not AS good...
I'm not surprised the consoles did well in the US this thanksgiving as they all had mega bundles available.
I wish they would do something like that over here.

wii and ds userbase simply untouchable
Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers ain't got s**t on this guy!
sean malstrom like wiiboy 101 knows exactly what is happening in gaming and how it will happen ,malstrom in his (true gamer wisdom) that's the opposite to a hardcore there the enemy.....
has stated as nintendo wii gains huge momentum and starts to totally disrupt the "COUGH GAMES-INDUSTRY" the industry will respond by ether birdmen copying of nintendo ,shallow casual cheap games and then finally a retreat into a non profit hardcore niche..
WE HAVE SEEN BOTH EA AND UBISOFT DO ALL 3 OF MALSTROMS PREDICTIONS
1 COPY NINTENDO AND FAIL
2 GO SILLY CASUAL CHEAP AND FAIL
3 BLAME WII AND NINTENDO INSTEAD OF THEMSELVES
4 RETREAT INTO HARDCORE AND SAY Wiis AT FAULT FOR ALL SIN IN THE WORLD AND DECLARE MORE LOSS MAKING COLLAPSING MARKET GAMES
MALSTROM AND WII-BOY TALK OF THIS
ITS EXACTLY WHAT HAS HAPPENED BOTH EA AND UBISOFT TRASH TALKED WII THEN WII WENT NUCLEAR AND OWNED AND DISRUPTED THE COUGH INDUSTRY
EA THEN WENT SILLY CASUAL UBISOFT WENT SILLY CASUAL NOW THERE WII SUPPORTS COLLAPSING AND NOT HELPING PROP UP THERE NON PROFIT HD TWIN GAMES THEY BLAME NINTENDO FOR THERE OWN LOSSES INSTEAD OF THEMSELVES....
THE INDUSTRY IS LOOSING MONEY AND THE HD TWINS ARE BANKRUPTING THE GAMES INDUSTRY WII/DS DISRUPTION IS UN STOPPABLE .....
THE EXACT ACTIONS OF THE INDUSTRY PREDICTED BY MALSTROM ARE HAPPENING AFTER A RETREAT TO THE HARDCORE NICHE THE INDUSTRY WILL BREAK AWAY BIT BY BIT LEAVING NINTENDO AS THE VICTOR
ALLOWING A NEW DAWN OF GAMING TRUE-GAMING NOT A INDUSTRIAL MACHINE SENDING GAMING TO ITS DOOM
I'd like to speak for everyone when I say, Wiiboycubed? Stop being gay/retarded/a t**t. If you think 440,000 is a bad number for a week of sales in one region, you're f**king retarded.
Please leave and never come back. Even better, die. One less stupid person in the world.

LIKE I STATED IN WISDOM 444000 IS A BAD NUMBER AS SONY, THE FANS AND THE BIASED PAYED ANNALISTS ALL STATED THE PS3 PRICE DROP WOULD BEAT WII THE SLIM MODDEL WOULD BEAT WII AND THE NEW ADVERTIZING CAMPAIN WOULD HELP BEAT WII
IT NEVER HAPPENED ALL THAT DID HAPPEN WAS HD TWIN SEWSAWING AS WIIS USERBASE CONTINUES TO OWN
PS3 SLIM IS ALSO LOOSING MONEY ON EVERY CONSOLE SOLD
3RD PLACE USERBASE SECOND PLACE SALES AND HUGE DEBTS AND LOSS AND YELLOW LIGHTS OF DEATH
sony fanboys like padau are why i traded in my ps3 slim i got for my birthdy, and mate microft sold 224000 360's in america last month so that makes the figure around the same as the ps3 slim
@Dorian: Not quite; the article focused on weekly sales, not monthly. I've heard one half-baked report that MS sold around 325,000 units. It's not been corroborated yet though.
christ that wiiboy's gona have a stroke now, i welcome it funny enough, good times! I thought the first day of the new season was around the 22nd of that particular month it starts?!
