Left 4 Dead 2 sales "more than double" original

And DLC news "coming very soon," says Valve
Left 4 Dead 2 has shifted more than 2 million retail copies since being released two weeks ago, Valve's confirmed.

According to the developer sales to date are "more than double" the original game, which was released exactly a year prior to Left 4 Dead 2.

The zombie-chinning sequel is in contention to become one of this year's best selling releases on both PC and Xbox 360, it says.

"Left 4 Dead 2 is off to a great start with strong support at retail and great reviews from the press," said Valve's Doug Lombardi.

"Meanwhile the title has already been played by over 1 million Xbox LIVE Gold account holders, and news regarding L4D2 DLC 1 is coming very soon."

Well deserved too. Read the Left 4 Dead 2 review if you haven't already.

That doesn't surprise me, the first one was a new IP and has gone on to gain a really large, really dedicated following.

It's really good! But harder (the new SI are bastards!), requires more team work and the levels (so far) take longer. Plus they've sorted the servers, so it's now playable after a week of frustration!

Where's "Episode 3"!?!? Twisted Evil

That said, impressive figures coming from Valve.

i bought this for pc. nearly the biggest waste of money ever - if it wasnt £27.

the graphics on max look about 7 years old. and that isnt even a joke, but the gameplay is about that old too.

i'll steer clear of anything valve that isnt half life ep3 from now on.

couldnt have been the same team that worked on this. i know a lot of people like it, but im truly dumbfounded as to why.

damn thats a shite game.
svd_grasshopper on 1 Dec '09
grasshopeer i compleatly agrre, its boring, dull and the graphics are horrible. my friends are always playing it. the 1st one was awfull and the 2nd is the same.

I can't think of any games I've played that really play like L4D. Definitely not in 2002!

Still it's about co-operating and getting on and communicating with your team mates. I can see why you wouldn't like it SVD!

But yeah, on a top PC the graphics aren't the greatest. Bit better than 2002 though!
ricflair on 1 Dec '09
the gameplay is crap. doesnt matter about cooperating.

blasting the zombies just does not feel satisfying. and thats what it comes down to for me.

I do agree that in L4D there's no "weight" to the zombies when you shoot them - you may as well be shooting fresh air for the way it feels, which is a little unsatisfying.

Still a great game, regardless.

i'd trade or give my copy away. but they make you tie it to a steam username.

doubly disgraceful.

I agree that sucks. Just a quick thought though, why didn't you try the demo or L4D1 first?
ricflair on 1 Dec '09
Just got this for PC and absolutely love it! Smile

I never played LFD but I think for a game, it is quite good and is the ultimate co-op game, great to play with mates and its simplicity makes it good

But, each to their own

I ordered this on Saturday from Tesco's Direct for £15. Got an email on Monday stating it was cancelled due to a pricing error. Sad

Kind of made yourself look like a complete idiot there, was always a demo to try before you bought it to see if you would actually like it.
Your entitled not like it just like everyone else is entitled to like it. But feel you may have missed the point of the game, did you actually play it online with friends on a higher setting than easy?

should have, but got a 9 everywhere. sucked into the hype. word of mouth mainly. shame on you all, how can sticking a co-op element into a crap game suddenly make it good?! Shocked i'll know better next time (wont go near another L4D sequel)

and for some reason i thought it was a 3rd person. would have been better that way i think.

thank god i didnt buy MW2, that got 9's everywhere, but i sensed that would be shite.

between these two games, and their review scores... something aint right. some publisher incentives been doing the rounds i think.

Impulse buy I take it then?
Silly, you should always do at least a little research into games your thinkin of buying.
It is a co-op game, meant to played online with mates, I admit its pointless purchase if you dont play it online. Was never sold as a single player experience, the hint is in the name.
NinjaWizard on 1 Dec '09
i did play it online.

i obviously done some research, read a few reviews and heard the word of mouth.

whether your teammates are bots, friends or strangers - usually a good game is a good game, and i can enjoy it even though i like to tour off lone-wolf style.

but this is crap, and for me co-op doesnt save it. i cant understand why it would!

a crap game is a crap game! the game itself could have been satifying, not just the 'random' scenerios that unfold online... even this is fake, due to some AI director i may add. thats even worse.

clever level design and real AI would have made such events genuine. its best factor is manufactured!
svd_grasshopper on 1 Dec '09
grasshopper while you may not like it that's up to you . I think it's more to do with the fact it's not on the ps3 and to say mw2 is not worth it is crazy the multi player is great fun the single player is short but not much shorter than say uncharted 2 (which i had and played) plus you get co op

but then i think its to do with rabid ps3 fanboys hating Activision because of their comments

plus Mw2 selling millions more than killzone2 which hurts ps3 fanboys to hell . I don't hate the ps3 (I have 2) but your hate of Ms is stupid(I know this is valve but you are always slagging off the 360) .

On that we are 100% in agreement. It's a vile practice and it should be classified under the same area of the law as slavery - it amounts to much the same thing on a digital level.

As for the feel of "L4D2", I've only played the demo on my PC which I thought was fun. Sure, not the very latest graphics yet better than 2002 standards and the UI and controls are certainly much better than anything I recall from 2002! That said, I do agree with you that shooting the zombies does seem to lack a bit of "umpf!" though I enjoyed the demo. Not sure I will buy "L4D2" after all given some of the other games vying for my attention.

Stop right there! "MW2"s soiled name is not to be uttered in these hallowed halls of gamedom! Razz

On a more serious note, I haven't played "MW2" because I will only play it on the PC and until I can buy it for 15 Euros or less (that's all the SP campaign is worth IMO given its brevity,) I won't buy it. What IW and Activision did with the MP aspect of "MW2" for the PC started its own whole new chapter in the book of books on the foul, unadulterated greed of publishers/developers. I hope they choke on their ill gotten gains.

Oh, and just for the record I'm far from being a SDF fanboy, I don't own a PS3 (nor any other PS branded piece of merchandise for that matter) and yet I still like to think that if there is a gaming hell, that there is a special place in it reserved just for Bobby and Co. Twisted Evil

You really are missing the point if you play l4d 'lone wolf style' as its a team game and you will not last long on your own. Clearly you didnt do much research if you thought it was a 3rd person shooter at first. Now we all get you dont like the game (which is fair enough) but try and get it into your thick skull that some people do like the game and understand how its meant to be played.
NinjaWizard on 1 Dec '09
Modern warfare 2 is actually good online, if you didn't spend all day here posting crap, and instead took the time to learn the maps and get good at a game you would realise this.

Play games and just stfu

whats it got to do with it not being available on ps3?!

if its crap on pc, then its even worse on 360 with joypad controls and even worse graphics, and hence the game would be just as bad on ps3.

MW1 sold millions more than KZ2. MW1 is a great game. better than KZ2.

i dont like L4D2 because the game itself is shit.

feels cheap, and even its fans have commented on that. shooting zombies solo is no fun. so watching other people do it, is even less so.

i know how its meant to be played, doesnt make it a good game. i know you pretend youre all having a great adventure, pulling each other out of hairy situations... but the core gameplay SUCKS!!! co-op doesnt mask that fact for me.

and i havent had a ps3 for half a year you idiot. im actually beginning to think this game is hyped because its not on ps3. cause its awful.
svd_grasshopper on 1 Dec '09
SVD i dont care if your fanboy or not, what you need to get is that although you dont like left4dead, there are loads of people who do like the game. Each to there own and personal tastes. Im sure I dont like some games you like, but the difference is I wouldnt bleat on and on about how bad i thought the game is in an uneducated childish fashion as you do. Feel free to mention if you must that you dont like a game and air some reasons but have some common sense.
NinjaWizard on 1 Dec '09
wheres your common sense?

these are my opinions - and where did i say that they should stop others from enjoying the game?!
svd_grasshopper on 1 Dec '09
Well this explains why so many people in pub games can't play the game. Its like watching teams of first time noobs playing CS:S or TF2.

Only bad things with the game are the Survivor bots and the spitter choke points (e.g. the lift on Hard Rain).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NO3LWfWyJss

That's a prime example of the not quite so great thinking of Valve's character designers. Still, no doubt there will be changes for the CEVO config to prevent this in tournaments.

SVD_grasshopper, do you ever play this game with your friends? L4D and L4D2 are easily as good as TF2 in terms of multi-player game play. Ok, Single Player you may struggle with Expert Campaign and Expert Realism but Advanced still provides enough of a challenge for the lone wolf and can be done in under an hour.
AegisK on 1 Dec '09
wheres your common sense?

And once again you have missed my point entirely.
I get that these are your opinions and thats fair enough but you need to learn to put them over like an adult. You come across like a child ape fisting his keyboard.

I ended up hosting local games instead of using their dedicated servers. I got fed up with walking through the same doorway 4 times over (because of the packetloss my position was reset... repeatedly). The dedicated servers, now they're fixed, are much better. And I agree with your other comments, definitely harder than the first and the levels are much longer. I HATE the Jockey... by the time I've seen him he's already on my head (don't twist my words ^^). The Finales and Crescendo moments are much improved over the original's too.

Great game though. I've played through it a number of times now and I'm not even remotely bored of it Very Happy Interest in MW2 completely dropped for me the moment this game came out!
