brilliant, if any developer deserves praise for listening to criticism and taking it on the chin it is these guys. the game is epic. on a side note, where is jade raymond ;\
Think ive put in about 8-10 hours and I dont think ive even scratched the surface of it so far.
Will be interested to see where and when they take the franchise next.
Hmmm - it does sound rather good. I think I may have managed to get a copy for £15, but I'm not sure what to do with it.
Do I keep it and play it, or just trade it in for SMBWii? - the way I see it, the first AC dropped in price like a lead balloon....SMBWii definitely won't, so it'll be better for me to trade that in when I'm finished (possibly for AC2).
It takes a couple of hours to get going and then ACII turns into a really absorbing adventure game. There seems to be so much to do including: improving a run-down town, collecting glyphs and feathers and loads of other odd jobs.
I particularly like the exploration side of the game, especially on horseback.
It is much better than the first game, but you do have to be patient before the goodness is revealed.
assassins creed 2 is epic! i love the engaging story, all the gameplay types and upgrades you can get, aswell as the beatifull enviroments( though graphics are a bit rough)also....it made me want to learn more about the renaissance again!!!!! i would highley recomend getting this rather than a new mario 2d game
LOL. No offense, but can't believe people are questioning rather to get this or the new 2D Mario. Get a grip people! This game improves vastly on the original, even puts it to shame and even has a very healthy longevity to make it worth the price tag. Easily one of the top 5 games released this year.

I agree regarding metacritic scores - I've just completed Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in time and it was awesome fun and it has 86 meta. The scores probably about right because it doesn't really innovate, but it is major fun to play - and surely that should be the over-riding factor in a review?
I was just offering another alternate reasoning, for right or wrong.
The thing is, as a veteran gamer, you should know which game appeals more to you without the need for scores.

They're both totally different games too - yet, I'm pretty much split between which I'd like to play more.
I think I'll go with my first instinct - trade AC2 in, get SMBWii and play that first.....then, once it's all beaten, I'll trade it in (for a decent price) and maybe get AC2 again (which will no doubt be much cheaper by that point).

why dont you just rent mario? i mean im very much sure youll get more out of ac 11
cool so im guessing everybody, or almost everbody in here has played AC2 and its awesome ye?! my girlfriend picked it up for me lastnight and is threating to to give it to me for christmas lol coz the b*tch in sainsburys said its amazing and so time consuming, so she thinks it'l take up most my time! better break out the massage hands and candles lol!
Back to the topic, yeah AC2 is a great major improvement over the first! Defintely in the top three of my game of the year! - Modern warefare 2/Uncharted 2 is amongst it!
I thought Uncharted 2 would be my GOTY after all the praise, but I finished it, gave multiplayer a go and didn't go back to it. I'm having a lot more fun with Assassin's Creed 2 and Modern warfare 2.

Decisions, decisions...
Parma, consider the possibility that "AC1" dropped in price so rapidly because of the..niggles..that many had with it. Now consider that so far there are increasing reports of how "AC2" has fixed many of those niggles and then some. I would not expect quite as dramatic a price drop quite so quickly this time around. Then again, personally my interest in Mario waned with the end of the NES days so I have my own bias.
I think I shall pick up "AC2" at some point, but seeing as I haven't even put "AC1" in my Xbox 360 yet it will likely be some time before that happens.
I picked up both Creed and Mario and I have to say I'm really glad I got Creed (it was an impulse buy really). Its really good, and I've been playing probably for about 15-20 hours and there is still so much to do and see. Not repetitive or tiring like the first one at all.
I'm finding Mario really disappointing... it just feels like a kids game to me, its too cutesy and the levels are too busy. Not really what I was expecting from the "spiritual successor" of Mario 3 which is a shame I'll just have to wait til Galaxy 2 comes out I guess

You could be right about that - I thought Arkham would pop up in some better deals before now (£17.99 cheapest still). You have to agree that Mario will hold its' value longer though?
I don't know - I can see that some of you will view SMBWii as nostalgic and possibly 'old skool', but it's something that I think I'd enjoy. If I'm being nostalgic, so be it.
At the same time - since I made my first post - I've been offered £30 in cash for AC2 and I've been told (by my GF) that I probably shouldn't buy NSMBWii (which means I have it for Xmas).
Agsin - decisions, decisions....so, how is Dragon Age on 360?

KEEP IT ("AC2" that is)!!! At least until you've played through it, but then I suppose the trade in value would drop for it being second hand, etc. As you said, "Decisions, decisions".
As for "Dragon Age: Origins", I'm busy playing it on my PC for the second week in a row. I haven't tried the Xbox 360 version yet reports indicate that it is clear that the game was made with the PC in mind as the leading platform. I can well imagine that the group tactics commands will be semi-hellish on a controller compared to using K&M, so if your PC is at all able to pull through on this one I would opt for the PC (but again I'm a bit biased on this matter seeing as how I opted for the CE of the game for the PC).
Parts of the game do not look that spectacular while others look quite good, yet the story line and character development is second to none. I've been waiting ten long years for a game like this since "BG II"; only "Deus Ex" and "The Witcher" really managed to capture me the same way IIRC. "ME" is close to them but not quite there, and on a different yet still very compelling level "GoW 2" also sucked me in to its immersion. There have been many other good games along the way yet the three mentioned heavy weight RPGs, along with "Dragon Age: Origins" are something truly special, IMO. "Dragon Age: Origins" is set to being my GOTY for 2009 and well on its way to being in my personal Top 10 games of all time (so far).
Now for any Assassin's Creed 'fanboy' out there, don't jump down my throat with a volley of abuse here. Having played the first one on a friends PC, I though great, a lovely view distance, quite interesting characters and a nice theme going on. However, after thirty minutes of play, I was bored sh**less! I was craving for a blast on God of War! Why? Or even Drakes Fortune. It was the same effect I had with Gears of War. After the initial 'amazing' draw distance blah blah wears off, I dug out a copy of Edge and checked their review of the game... Now I am not saying Edge magazine are perfect, but by God I did agree with how they summed this game up. Boredom set in so quickly and I ask myself why? Perhaps I am getting old and 'jaded' - pardon the pun, and I have not played AC 2 yet, but I just think this game is over rated and perhaps recieves more media attention due to the producer being a rather good looking woman. This is my personal opinion and does not reflect on you guys who are enjoying the new title out there, but I just can't seem to get a 'hard on' over this over hyped game....
I say as you have got AC2 so cheap in the first place just buy SMB aswell, you will have 2 great games and will only be out an extra £15.
And to Jon Ahmad, not to jump down your throat, but you should play the game before slagging it off as even though i don't think AC2 will be in my top 3 this year it is still alot better than it's predecessor and worth the money.
With all due respect Choke 5, I'm not 'slagging' it off by any means, its just that if i didn't really find the first AC stimulating, then there is not much point in me playing the sequel!
Yes, I have seen enough demos to realise that it is quite an achievement for Ubisoft, but my argument is that the series is over rated. I'm not sure how much it retails for, perhaps £34.99? But me personally, would find that a waste of money!
I appreciate why the game has its fans but I could honestly say, while the graphics, draw distances etc look fab, as a captivating experience...I don't know. Is AC2 that much different from the first one? Be honest and tell me I'm wrong and need my head checked!! I have been an avid Edge reader since issue one and usually trust their views on many games, but like I say, perhaps its just me!

Your wrong and you need your head checked, there I said it. Seriously though you'd think they had just released AC1 the way you are talking, they haven't, AC2 is a whole different beast, at least try it before writing it off. Also Edge magazine, really? I always wondered who bought Edge, now I know.

Assassin's Creed II is a totally different beast to the first one. You have to play it to realise just how different it is. My wife bought it for me on Saturday and MW2 hasn't been back inthe Xbox since. It's completely absorbing, consistently interesting and for me, the best game I played this year.
I also got bored with the first one after an hour or so and traded it in, but I'm into about 15 hours of the sequel now and still loving it.
