PS3 was the bestselling individual hardware platform in Japan during the week ended November 8, while the latest PES title ruled the software chart.
A 13,000 jump in weekly sales saw Sony's home console overtake DSi, which took second place ahead of PSP-3000.
Sony's handheld platform managed to outsell Nintendo's when taking into account sales of all models, despite the fact that PSPgo sales more than halved during the portable's second week on the market.
Konami's World Soccer Winning Eleven 2010 debuted atop the Japanese software chart. The PS3 version of the football title moved 218,000 copies in its first week - the Xbox 360 edition charted at 22 - to comfortably outsell Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver and Wii Fit Plus, which shifted 73,000 and 70,000 units respectively.
Namco Bandai's Summon Night X: Tears Crown for DS and Nintendo's Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter Games for Wii were new entries in ninth and tenth, while Sony's Infamous entered at 14.

What you're s**tting me surely..."a Japanese console and Japanese developed game are both top of the sales charts in Japan!!"...and for your next revelation, Final Fantasy 13 will top the charts upon release, Never!!!

Whilst the 2 comments above are silly, I disagree with your logic towards the Japanese. As far as I am aware, Apple do very well in the East with their ipod.
The higher PS3 sales are just due to the console being more attractive to the Japanese gamers. For instance, FF13 is exclusive to the PS3 over there.
A few average RPG's were never going to cut it for MS in Japan.
Obviously, MS will do better in the states because they are more into their shooters over there.
In Europe, things are closer between the two because they/we are a more diverse set of gamers than both US and Japan.
I don't think that it has anything to do with patriotism.
And do you care to explaine why it silly for me to say "awesome"??? Surely its not wrong for me to thing its awesome Sony have pulled the PS3 to first place or is it????
yeah but the ipod doesnt really have any serious competition anywhere. It's safe to say that apple pretty much have a global monopoly on mp3 players now. So much so that they are simply refered to as i pods by a lot of people.
MS have never done that well in Japan. all things considered they haven't done that badly this gen. The problem is that a lot of the exclusive RPGs on the 360 have now been ported to the PS3 in japan.
I'm impresseed that MS don't just cut their loses and stop bothering with japan becasue short of doing something incredibly drastic like buying square enix or namco. they're not ever going to be able to cut it game wise.
The Japanese market is becoming more insignificant with each passing year, their Devs and Publishers now look to the West for inspiration on their Games and as for sales, do we here in the UK not contribute more to the sales Game than the Japanese do?

The thing is, now that the PS3 is doing decent numbers in Japan and the US, MS need to do something drastic in all territory's to continue to compete.

If that's the case, then why do MS try so hard to appeal to Japanese gamers?
48,000 + sales of PS3 and over 200,000 copies of PES10 in a week sounds pretty significant to me.
Not to mention the numbers that FF13 will produce.
I agree that Eastern developers are falling behind the times to a degree, but that is more down to the fact that everybody over here in EU and over in the US just seem to love shooters so much.
Who the hell can compete with Halo and COD over in Japan, other than Square and a few others?
The reason MS were putting so much in to Japan, even though it is a smaller market than Europe and the US is because there's a hell of a lot of room for improvement, sales wise.
They were already doing good numbers in Europe. That's hardly rocket science. And to say that the Japanese don't prefer Japanese products is simply not true.
But Sony are doing well - the slim, UC2 and the price cut have certaintly been a good triple whammy. But MS are doing ok overall and still shifting consoles in the Europe and the US. It depends how you look at it, compare this and last gen, and it's Sony who have lost the most.

Great numbers for the PS3 but does anyone else think the PSP Go is going to be a monumental failure, it deserves to be with that ridiculous rrp. What were they thinking?.
