Sony reports record PlayStation Store sales

US PS3 sales grew almost 70 per cent last month, says SCEA
October marked the highest month of revenue on record for the PlayStation Store, with downloads up 60 per cent year over year, according to Sony Computer Entertainment America.

With the PlayStation Network entering its fourth year this week, the company said that 650 million pieces of content have been downloaded worldwide from the digital marketplace and that there are now over 31 million registered PSN accounts globally.

SCEA also noted that PS3 sales were up nearly 70 per cent in October when compared to the same month in 2008, "making it the only console to experience significant growth year over year".

Earlier today Sony Computer Entertainment Europe launched its PlayStation Network video delivery service (VDS) in France, Germany, Spain and the UK, enabling users to download thousands of films to PS3 and PSP.

good news for Sony but they do love to crow now they're doing better. they're scrubbing off that humility they had before as fast as they can.

looking forward to trying the HD video download service though.

^ To be fair, Microsoft, Nintendo and pretty much every other company do the same thing. Nice to see a bit of good news for once, long may it continue.

The reason for Sony seeing so many downloads last month maybe as a result of the the YLOD's. I know I had to download for two days none stop to get my PS3 back in order.
