An incredible Modern Warfare 2 price war has kicked off on the UK high street, leading to price points as low as £26 off the shelf, and a sweet £9.99 with trade-in deals.
Sainsbury's is leading the charge with the lowest shelf price for the Call of Duty entry, while HMV is offering a great deal which sees you picking the game up for less than a tenner when you trade-in either Forza 3, Tekken 6 or Uncharted 2.
The row over Activision's hefty £55 RRP seems redundant now, doesn't it?

Just off the phone to Sainsburys and although there are 3 stores in Glasgow, none are selling the Game tomorrow, need to go out to Darnley which would kind of defeat the purpose of getting it cheap and tomorrow.
Still, £45 for about 2 years worth of entertainment seems like a good deal .
The row over Activision's hefty £55 RRP seems redundant now, doesn't it?
No.
Everyone knew that there'd be competitive pricing on the high street. It's more the fact that Activision felt that they could charge this much is still a joke, in my opinion. At the end of the day, it's the retailers taking a hit over Activisions greed.
I don't think that anyone that pays £55 for MW2 will feel hard done by and I'm sure they'll get hours of enjoyment from the game - but Activision are starting a worrying precedent that could see us paying this price for less worthy games. The fact is - games are getting shorter, are more likely to contain bugs and publishers and devs are constantly moaning about pre-owned sales....in my view, they're perpetuating this with moves like this.
What happens when R* suddenly decide that GTA5 is worth £100?
Gamestation are doing a cracking trade in deal. I traded in Overlord 2 and Sacred 2 for £40 (£20 each!), meaning I'll be picking up MW2 tomorrow for the sweet price of £5.
hmmmmmmm i have 50 quid on my blockbuster account and can get the hardened edition for 49 quid..........but there is a sainsburys a min away from work.......what should i do!!!!!!!
Meh, screw that selected games nonsense, I've got 8 old 360 and Xbox 1 games piled up for trade in, gonna take them and 40 quid to gamestation tomorrow or day after.
You realise that most places will offer a price match on like-for-like offers, right? If you can prove that Sainsbo's are offering it for a tenner, take that proof to another store and they should offer to match it. Not always, but they should.

Yup, Gamestation will price-match any supermarket within 10 miles.....although I have heard that some have had problems in certain branches.
Are these prices all confirmed?? Or do you reckon it's subject to change? I mean i could see Asda dropping down to 25.99 come midnight just to stick a long pointy heel in Sainsburys gonads... I can see their handbags at the ready
gamestation only match whats on the high street, when i use to work there this caused a few arguments....i got in trouble once cus of this rude arrogant chav saying halo was cheaper in tesco, so i said smeg of to tesco then....
Looks like i'll be popping into sainsbury's before work 2moro, how convenient I have the next 3 days off . Oh and naughty Telegraph putting up their review a day early
My mate is picking mine up from Gamestation for just £5!! I'm trading in ODST as i've already got Halo 3 and COD4. For 360 but you can do it for PS3 too! I'll probably get the PS3 version later in the year though!
on the topic of game prices, i was watching a load of old episodes of bad influence (bringing back my youth lol) on youtube yesterday, and noticed there was not 1 review of a snes or mega drive game below £45 some were even £60!! And i don't know how many remember the SNK Neo Geo. Always wanted one (and still do) but my dad wasnt prepared to remorgage the house every time i wanted a new game lol. Each game cart cost between £200-£250 and the console i never saw below £550. Felt abit like Charlie Bucket when i went into my local games shop lol. But the thing is look at the price of them old carts now!! They have kept there price and in the case of some titles (metal Slug) command 4X the original retail price. Now my dad wished hed made the investment
I've made an enquiry to Sainsbury's and they could not confirm if the game will be available for the PC and they also stated that the £26 price tag is a rumour. They won't know the pricing for certain until they receive the stock tomorrow. Hello all btw!
Sainsburys might not be 26quid yet folks, the price will be finalised on the day, they're waiting to see what competitors do.
I work at Morrisons and got it price checked today but they are sneaky f**kers, still scanning at 54.99 until tommorow! Also, 2 copies per customer, whatever the price is.
For those with access to a Morisons discount card, it's 15% discount day on WED if you can a. reserve copy/ies and wait.

Sainsburys have adverts in the papers today confirming the £26 price!
£26... they probably have 10 copies per store and the staff who work at Sainsburys will probably be putting them to the side so they get them first! I wouldn't waste my time going to be honest!
Ive asked for this for xmas now so cant really buy it but i hope whoever gets it for me is wise enough to cotton on to it......strange release date for a game eh? Im glad there have been price drops but activision are bang out of line since it should never have started at £45. business' are going bump every other day and activision are not helping anyone but themselves and its not like they wouldnt have made money had it been sold at £40

well since i work in the more than one sainsburys store in glasgow, partick have about a hundred copies on both formats ready and willing to sell, but be quick at least 30 copies are taken by staff, since it is only costing £22.10 with discount.
this is turning pretty ugly. First it was against the hackers and illegal users. Now it seems that the tables have shifted. The retailers that were trusted to sell the game are killing each other for a big slice of pie.
Everyone knows this game will sell very, very well, now they all want to see who gets the biggest piece. Its all out war on all fronts. It should be pretty interesting piece of history in video games and in business.
Its like everyone giving arcane power and are tempted to abuse it. Does power corrupt? Certainly. Does absolute power corrupt? absolutely.
Morrisons have it for £25.99. It seems tobe one per customer though. The store I went into (hunslet, Leeds) had a big box of 360 and about 5 copies for ps3 left.
Just got mine from Morrisons Holloway Rd for £25.99, had a few copies left on ps3 and 360.
Wasn't going to bother with mw2, but couldn't say no at that price! Every sainsburys around here seems to have sold out though.
Edit: didn't see anything about Parma's £17.99 when you spend £25 offer though. If that even exists! There didn't seem to be anything about only one copy per customer either, but I'm not a profiteering ebay selling little s**t, so I was happy with my single copy.
