Sony has told CVG it'll be making an announcement regarding Facebook on PS3 "shortly", pretty much confirming rumours sparked by leaked images earlier this morning.
A trio of images that briefly appeared on the official PlayStation website showed XMB access to the social network as well as new Gamercard colours and improved photo browsing.
When contacted, Sony told us: "We'll have more info on this very shortly." More on that when it happens...
On the Xbox 360 it wasn't cool or needed. Now it's on the PS3 it's all the rage and is innovative.
Good times.
Where does it say that? It's not cool, innovative or needed but when MS are hyping Facebook integration we're expected to be grateful that they are adding it to the 360 as if it's some big deal, when in fact the majority of people would rather have them stop shutting down studios and make some first-party games.
Why are they bothering? I mean both Sony and Microsoft. Who wants Facebook on their console? I can't imagine anyone asked for this, and I doubt most people care.

I think you'll find Facebook still isn't cool or needed, except with those who need it - or think it's cool.
Facebook is only available to XBL gold members on the X360.
Just because it's there doesn't mean everyone will use it. All it means is that there's one less reason for fanboys to brag about their selected console of choice.

Is it? I thought it was available to anyone with an internet connection...I have it on my phone...
Note highlight.
What? That still suggests that you can only access Facebook via the 360. Perhaps what you meant was that Facebook on the Xbox 360 is only available to those with a gold sub?
I love being a pedant, it makes me all warm and gooey inside.

You're not a pedant. You're a t!t.
Read the definition however you choose. It's pretty clear which entry I'm referring to (hint - the 3rd one).

I have a 360 and I'm well p**sed off that I have to be a subscriber to access facebook - a free internet application.
I'm also very disappointed there's no free internet browser on the 360 - even the wii has that ffs. It's very possible that within a year the 360 will become my secondary console, the PS3 is finally starting to look attractive to me.
It's a nice feature, but I wouldn't use it, to be honest. I think that Sony and MS should stop trying to go after stuff like this and put whatever money they invest into more games.

i don't really think Sony has a problem in that regard. it's Microsoft, unless you count investing into more games courting third-parties for timed exclusives.
Im glad, I only have one wired net access point in my room so I cant have both the mac and ps3 connected to the net at the same time. This will be useful for me as Facebook does not work with the ps3 browser at all.

I hope it is just a link on the XMB and they are going to tune the browser up to standard!
Who gives a f*** about Facebook on the PS3 (or the Xbox for that mattter)? I would assume anyone who has broadband in their home would have at least 1 PC or laptop in their home and more often than not more than 2. Which makes this console Facebook exercise pointless, who'd want to mess with a fidly joypad typing in messages? Im out.
