Xbox 360 gamers are "defecting" to PlayStation 3 for more than one of this Christmas's big sequels, claims an analyst report.
According to OTX analyst Nick Williams, data on "franchise lineage" (or gamers' intent to buy sequels to their favourite games) highlights an interesting trend between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 SKUs for Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 - two of this Christmas's biggest sequels.
Apparently 15 percent of those who plan to buy the PS3 version of Assassin's Creed 2 own the Xbox 360 version of the original, while only 7 percent of those who plan to buy the Xbox 360 version own the original game on PS3.
The data highlights a shift among Assassin's Creed fans in favour of the PS3 -- a "sizable portion," says OTX.
The trend for Modern Warfare 2 is the same, according to OTX: "The PS3 seems poised to shift the ratio of Xbox 360 to PS3 sales for most major multi-platform releases in its favor among dual owners," Williams said.
Interesting stuff. Is anyone in the CVG massive switching consoles for the big sequels? Or are you happy where you're at?
Not sure where you're getting your figures from pal but you're so wrong. I know several people who have a PS3 and after trying out the online on the 360 haved vowed to get 1. I know about 4 people with both consoles and only 1 prefers the PS3.

I have both consoles and have MW1 on Xbox 360. Will be getting MW2 on xbox again as I have more friends on Live than PSN. I also find that the 360 controller is better for FPS games as I prefer the analog sticks further apart.
A few of my friends have sold their 360s to buy PS3s. From what they have said they arent really enjoying PS Network.
I think the price drop plus the release of FIFA and PES have really helped PS3 sales as the casual Friday night gamers probably are only upgrading their PS2s now.
Either way Im not fussed. If you would rather play COD on PS3 pad thats your business.

I have a PS3 but plan on getting (not 'defecting') an Xbox360 for Mass Effect 2 in January, Forza 3, GTA IV DLC and maybe a few of those exclusive RPGs, i'm not really fussed about anything else on that system.

I own both an Xbox 360 and a PS3. FIFA 10 I bought on 360 and MW2 is pre-ordered on 360 too. Why? Generally speaking, cross-platform games are better on 360, so I tend to buy them for that. For those games that end up with conversions that are equally good, I still normally end up getting the 360 version 'cos I prefer the 360 pad and also the online experience is usually better too.

I had my PS3 since launch and I wish at the time i'd got a 360, that crimbo I was lucky enough to get one and haven't looked back since, MP on 360 for me anyway is streets ahead of PS3. But recently i've been loving some PS3 exclusives like uncharted and also the Multi-plat batman game because of the joker playable. Plus i've just invested in Demon's souls from USA and it's one of the best games on PS3 right now. Just hope someone picks it up for Euro release.

I agree this survey and most are rubs. But that's what they're done for. They're done to take a relatively small sample and try and get an idea of the overall picture. It's not supposed to be a census!

The Xbox 360 will always be my first choice console. The controller, Live online service and shear number of online friends who also choose the 360 make it an easy choice.

I shan’t recount my personal story again as it will only serve to raise my blood pressure, but suffice to say that I truly believe the red ring of doom to have spelt doom for much more than just the affected consoles and respective wallets – perhaps Microsoft’s weakening grasp on the market has finally been prised off and left them plummeting into the void occupied by the Saturn, jaguar, and 3do (three consoles which perhaps aren’t as deserving of oblivion as the 360)!
The original firefighting measure of the three-year extended warranty helped stop the flood for a while but as I was explaining to KFC (King F’in Canute ) you cannot stop the inevitable flow of progress by waving your arms and proclaiming mastery!

Banks are parasitic, they do not produce anything, but simply engage in the loaning of fictitious capital (ie lending of money that doesn't yet exist to industry on the hope that said industry will produce goods and sell them in the future and repay with interest/profit). Guess what happens when all this fictious capital is liberally spread around in the desperate need to push profits through spurious speculation on commodities future selling price? I like cake......... All kinds of cake, but my favourite has to be chocolate fudge brownie's, the way they are cooked and crumbly on the outside yet moist and gooey on the inside, brownies-not just any s**t brownie's like the Mock Italian effort's you get in Coffee Republic or Starbucks but real, honest to goodness, my mummy made these, gooey chocolate brownies would hands down, any day of the week, absolutely annihilate Any Marzipan Laden slags or stupid thick ugly muffins,muffins are the Dawn French of cakes!! I think the only think holding Xbox 360 owners from adapting to PlayStation 3 multi platform exclusives is the friends they've made on Live.
Apart from that, those less inclined to fork out for their Live subscription fee will most certinally switch to PlayStation 3 simply because PS3 currently has the best exclusive games lineup and online features and facilities (unless you dig cross game chat too much).
Mass Effect, Splinter and Alan are going to be contending with Heavey Rain, Gran Turismo, Last Guardian, God of War, MAG, Mod Nation etc. Plus the PS3 has a better range of games already released this year, Killzone 2, Infamous, Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank, Valkrie Chron not to mention imports such as D Souls, in comparision to the Xbox 360s add on Halo ODST, the add on GT4 episodes, Forza 3 and um ...

I have no idea why? the Xbox 360 controller is much better than the Sony one. I've been using Playstation controllers for over 12 years, and its nowhere near as good for shooters and driving games. people say the 360 is a hybrid Dreamcast pad. and there not too far wrong.

COD4 was on 360 WAY before the PS3 version. So there was obviously going to be fewer sales on the PS3 originally.
There are now many more PS3s in homes than there were with Ass' Creed 1s release. So more preorders.
A shift in sales was not only expected but enevitable.
This analyst is crap. Its the equivalent of saying "I predict in 12 months there will be more PS3s sold than there are now", well...duh!
The PS3 verison of the game COD MW was released at the same time as the Xbox 360 version. PSN version played just as well online as the Xbox 360 Live counterpart and they both sold close to the same units based on user base. Maybe you're thinking of Bioshocks release date.
COD MW 2 will be an interesting demonstration to see how far PS3 has come though but I doubt it'll outsell the Xbox version (but it will be very close).
I think the analyst is suggesting there'll be a shift in the market around Christmas, rather than suggesting more users on one platform will buy more games for it.

I agree but i did like the ex box controllers. I had a dreamcast before ps2 come out with a racing game cant remember what it was called NSX something i think, but i couldnt stand it so i traded it in for a ps2 when they came out. Everything was fine apart from the bs from sony about a hdd coming then after about 2 yrs ps 2 died and i got a xbox instead. And i loved it and strangley enough Project Gothem which was a carbon copy of the racing game on the DC....go figure lol
but the real acid water test i found between the 2 was Rainbow 6 3. I had owned it on both platforms and xbox won hands down. On ps2 to get through a level you had to go through 3 loading screens where it would save at each screen. on the xbox however you could play straight threw a level without a single loading and save where you want to.
now i dont know much about cpus but to me thats a indication the xbox was more powerful. ive never owned a 360 but i would think its about the same power as my ps3. just that i wanted to slim everything down to 1 box and a tv. with ps3 i can do just that with bluray, web browser to download from stagevu and porn lol, free online gaming and play tv who needs anything else from an entertainment system

To be fair I am not really into the whole Blu Ray thing, if I was I would buy a as stand alone player.
BBC iPlayer, Blu Ray, Killzone 2, Playstation Home is pretty funny , No red ring of death , Also you don't have to wrap a PS3 in a beach towel when it over heats.

I think the only think holding Xbox 360 owners from adapting to PlayStation 3 multi platform exclusives is the friends they've made on Live.
Apart from that, those less inclined to fork out for their Live subscription fee will most certinally switch to PlayStation 3 simply because PS3 currently has the best exclusive games lineup and online features and facilities (unless you dig cross game chat too much).
Mass Effect, Splinter and Alan are going to be contending with Heavey Rain, Gran Turismo, Last Guardian, God of War, MAG, Mod Nation etc. Plus the PS3 has a better range of games already released this year, Killzone 2, Infamous, Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank, Valkrie Chron not to mention imports such as D Souls, in comparision to the Xbox 360s add on Halo ODST, the add on GT4 episodes, Forza 3 and um ...
I've been reading that PS3 has been collecting dust on some of these posts, my goodness, it sounds like a claim by Xbox fanboys who dont have one lol.

I do not see how the conclusion was drawn from one set of statistics over one game. Considering the small percentages of that poll, it's a marginal difference. Just be warned though, if your PS3 stops working out of warranty Sony will charge you to fix it (costs about half of what you can buy a PS3 slim for now) but if your 360 red rings or buggers up at least Microsoft fix it for free! no paying for extended warranty required.

If you want some more 'figures', all my friends with PS3 and Xbox prefer their Xbox. One of my friends had an Xbox, it RRODed, and now he has a PS3 and loves it, won't go back to the box. Having being plagued with numerous hardware failures on the 360, I finally decided to try the PS3 instead. It's a great console and I'm really enjoying it. People constantly complain about PSN being inferior to Xbox Live, I've had no major issues with it and for a free service, it's pretty damn awesome.
Haven't completely turned my back on the 360 though, and still play it from time to time.
Fact is, the more successful the PS3 and the Wii, the better it is for gamers all round. Competition is a good thing, a Microsoft monopoly would be a disaster...
