After a disastrous launch last week, which saw MS and Sky pull its much-hyped Sky Player, it seems both firms are ready to try again. Here's the latest update from Microsoft.
"As we said last week, some customers have been unable to experience full use of the service due to the initial demand for the service at launch, when so many people tried to access the service all at the same time," said the Xbox EMEA Community Manager.
"Right now we are implementing a revised rollout which will see Sky Player become available to all Xbox 360 customers gradually. While unfortunately some customers do not have access to the service, tens of thousands more will be added each day, until the service is available to all.
"We are taking this phased approach to ensure that consumers experience a high-quality experience. The Sky team has contacted the affected Sky Player TV subscribers on Xbox directly with further updates."
I got in last Thursday or Friday and I'm quite impressed. There's quite a large selection of movies to choose from and you can catch up on a lot of sports. Watching Hatton get "knocked the f**k out" by Pacquiao was fantastic.
Downloaded this last night and had a play. Seems to work very well, although I'm not sure what the point is (especially as I have the Sky box attached to the same tv). Don't think I'll be using it much, but a nice freebie...
yes I ve had this on my dashboard and perused it and tested sky news since day 2, but as I have sky +HD and multiroom, sky player on PC (and pcs) it really is a nice addon but I have sky+HD box attached to same tv so really not a lot of use, no HD content...still its nice to have...
Excellent service. I was expected lots of complication, but all I needed to do was to sign up by putting my sky email and password in (I'm an existing sky customer) and it automatically signed me up to the service and recognised my current TV package.
Its a real added benefit to the sky service, because you get hundreds of on-demand movies at no extra cost. Of course I had this service already with my PC, but I don't really want to watch TV on my computer.
I didn't think I'd use this a great deal but, having never really bothered with the movies online on Sky Player, I was pleasantly surprised by the vast selection I can now watch on my TV.
Saying that, it's probably the only part of it I'll use since I've already got Sky hooked up. It's a nice option to have if I fancy watching a new film and there's nothing decent on Sky Movies, though.
