Modern Warfare 2 leak: Leaderboard reset coming

Infinity Ward wants to ensure "no unfair advantages"
Infinity Ward says it's planning to perform a full wipe of Modern Warfare 2's online leaderboards and stats before release, to ensure that players who've obtained leaked copies of the game don't have an "unfair advantage".

Speaking via Twitter, community man Robert Bowling said: "It definitely looks like a full leaderboard / level reset is in order just before the release date to ensure no unfair advantages."

There is no way on gods earth that any Modern Warfare fan will miss this game, regardless of whether they feel like they are getting shafted by Greedyvision, or not. Just enjoy. Principles won't make you feel any better when all your mates are playing the game....

I just hope that Activision will thank the fans by releasing at least one decent DLC.

phew, I was about to cancel my peorder when I heard that all those people with leaked copies we're getting an advantage over me.
Now I can claim my rightful place at the top.

I'm a CoD 4 fan. I'm also a fan of standing up for oneself and the things one holds dear; that others feel differently and/or have chosen a different course of action is their prerogative. Personally I've accepted that I won't get to play "MW2" anytime soon, if ever, and that Activision/IW won't be getting full price from me on this. "DASurprised" should tie me over quite nicely for some time to come.

So either you're posting illegal software download links or potentially dangerous data to infect our machines.

Either way I'd expect the banhammer to come a-knocking.

I am sick of people threatening to cancel there preorder or outright refuse to buy this game because they feel like taking the moral high ground is going to pay off for them or send a message to Activision.

People reading this story are likely interested in the game and are going to buy it (like me!). I doubt they want to listen to the continuing bitching and moaning about a corporation who doesn’t give a f**k that your not going to buy there game. They don’t care that you’re upset about no dedicated servers. They don’t care that you’re upset about killing civilians in an airport!! Neither do I!

I have no sympathy left for you people anymore.
johnston29 on 2 Nov '09
did no-one else get on the £25 deal?

gamestation were offering you the option to hand in two old games from a list + £5 for MW2. Overlord 2 was on the list so i bought 2 copies from play.com for £9.99 each -took them in with a fiver and now have a voucher for MW2 Smile

Apparently they are removing overlord from the list now as theyve cottoned on. If you look at play.com now you will see that overlord is the biggest seller on ps3 ;D

I have next week booked off too and only realised last Friday that the two coincided (yeah, not that bright, I know)... Now it's whether I can persuade the wife that MW2 is an interesting spectator sport... Confused

Oh dont worry, they will Mark, 800 MS points (or PS equivalent) a piece.

Its just such a shame that a great Dev like IW are associated with Activision, im sure I heard on some random podcast that after MW2, IW have one more Game to release under their Activision agreement, after that there on their own. Yay!

There’s a rumour going round that party chat is disabled for the Xbox version, which if so downgrades it from a purchase to a rental for me, the best thing about playing online is that I can just talk to a group of my real life friends, not screeching internet weirdos, and play games with them. Without that it completely removes any lasting appeal the multiplayer might have had for me…

Quite, it’s apparently to stop cheating on ranked matches, it may well be bobbins as I’d be surprised if Microsoft allows a third party developer block a function they tout as a trump card over the PSN, but if it is true it’ll ruin the game online for me and many others.

I hear what your saying Conkers but I kinda think the party chat is kinda ruining xbox live a little bit as every one just sits in party chat nowadays and no one ever communicates in game anymore which is a shame a little bit but yeah some people can be really annoying especially when playing games like Halo, so Im not sure what the answer is...
but how are you going to make new friends if you never talk to anyone else but your current friends?

Well it’s a bit of a Catch-22 situation then, as a large portion of the fanbase do not want to talk to randoms, and another large portion would rather communicate as a group that works together. The latter would be fine if it were not for the multitude of idiots who play these games, I’m talking about the ones who bitch and moan, the racist ones, the ones who play music down the mics, the small children who screech anytime a leaf blows past them. They ruin online games for me, and party chat was a blessing that healed it!

As for making friends online, I'm not really bothered about that!

You have the option to mute any jackasses who might be screaming/playing thrash metal down the mic buy pressing the Back Button (I think). This would be a way round this but doing that in every game so you can only hear dudes in your party will soon become a royal pain in the ass.

If this change drives ANYONE to cancel there preorder or not buy this game I suggest you take a long hard look at yourself! Seriously, holy s**t! What is wrong with you people!?

I haven’t preordered it yet anyway, it’s not a morale outrage thing from me, I can understand why they’re doing it, it will just put me off playing online, which would change it from a purchase to a rental for me, as the solo campaign has limited replay value.. I am still going to play it and I’m still looking forward to it, it just makes sense for me to rent any game that I won’t play much after completing the solo campaign.

That may all change dependant on the co-op offerings, as I don’t know much about them yet though!

You can and will buy it anyway. All us 'nerd/ragers' are suggesting is that the people that will buy the PC version think about not buying it.

I know it probably won't make a difference but it might give other devs pause for thought (certainly did for DICE, clever marketers that they are). And to be ruthlessley honest most PC'ers couldn't give a rats what you consolers think either.

You are so wrong. I have been a big fan of every PC CoD game released, but I will not pander to IW's attempt to undermine PC gaming. Some things are more important than one single game, however much I was looking forward to it.
I will stand by my principles until IW change their minds, because in all this mess only one thing will make IW and Activision pay a damned bit of notice - and that is impacting the sales of this game.

Do not give in to this hype. Do not buy the game until they correct their big mistakes. Play other games and be patient.
And by the way - a lot of my mates are also boycotting the game for the same reason I am and for the same reason every PC gamer should be.

I am sick of people threatening to cancel there preorder or outright refuse to buy this game because they feel like taking the moral high ground is going to pay off for them or send a message to Activision.

People reading this story are likely interested in the game and are going to buy it (like me!). They don’t care that you’re upset about no dedicated servers. They don’t care that you’re upset about killing civilians in an airport!! Neither do I!

I have no sympathy left for you people anymore.

1) It's not a threat, not on my part at least - it's already a done deal.

2) Since Activision/IW are businesses they do in fact care about money, about making money and about making as much of it as possible. Will "MW2" still make them a truckload? I'm inclined to guess that yes, it likely will. Could it have made more had certain key decisions that altered things that didn't need to be altered while still maintaining profit result in even more profit? Probably. Incidentally, others not jumping on the bandwagon you have chosen in no way denies you the ability to pay for an overpriced game, get a worse online service and potentially enjoying the game, so what's the problem? Those of "us" whom are complaining only have as much power to aggravate you as you allow.

3) The feeling is mutual.

Ah! I see you feel in the mood for a second front in another thread, Moss. How delightful! I harbour no illusions about my ability to "bring down Activision" on my own at present time. However, small things can with time, proper care and an eye for detail become big things and Rome wasn't built in a day. I derive some measure of satisfaction from the knowledge that I will not be feeding Activision's coffers directly. Smile

not getting it here either and quite happy to spend my hard earned cash on decent PC games.
lmimmfn on 3 Nov '09
Thank you KFD, up the workers!

With some very few exceptions (and i mean very few), PC CoD vets are to a man really raging about this still.

The console 'ragers' still cannot seem to grasp the concept that if you don't like something, you have every right to complain about it. I still don't get why they bash us about something that doesn't even effect them. We don't tend to trawl their articles taking the p**s (well I dont anyway).

If anything, if (and let's face it, it a very big if) IW change their mind, it may have a positive effect on console gamers for future games (ie Dedi servers).

Just have to look at Operation FlashpointVery Happyragon Rising on the PC, theres massive uproar on the Codemasters forums about there being no dedicated servers.I havent touched the game since launch, the various bugs etc dont bother me as it happens in all games. Its the Online with no dedicated servers thats made the Multiplayer useless.
allygray69 on 3 Nov '09
@allygrey69:

I purchased OpFlashVery HappyR at release from Gamestation (on PC) for a fiver after trading some games. I fancied a little self-punishment in a game (I moved from CoD:WaW to that and got spanked in SP). It was ok but the AI squad mechanics were just awful. But I ground on, but then found out that the MP was P2P.

At that point I didn't even bother finishing the game. I just traded it in for Company of Heroes box set and been having fun ever since. My lesson learned is now to check any future PC purchases for P2P matchmaking and really consider buying it or not. But most probably not.
