The Xbox 360 demo for Left 4 Dead 2 is available right NOW if you pre-ordered the game, boys and girls.
Valve says: "The PC demo is currently targeted for release on Wednesday, October 28," which we guess means it'll be out later today for those who pre-ordered it.

As Valve previously confirmed: "The demo will then be made available to Xbox Live Gold members and all PC gamers on November 3. Then all Xbox Live members will obtain access to the demo on November 10."
Here's what's in it: "The Left 4 Dead 2 demo will feature gameplay taken from 'The Parish' campaign, set in the New Orleans French Quarter. Playable by 1 to 4 players over local or Internet connections on both the Xbox 360 and PC (with two-player split screen available on the Xbox 360), the demo features all the new boss infected zombies and all the new melee weapons included in the full product."
i dont know why they would only do it for pre-orders because the only thing it can do it make people cancel their pre-order because they dont like it...

Am I missing the point? Surely the point of a demo is to demonstrate the key features of a game to encourage potential buyers to buy the game.
If they have preordered it already, what is the point of the demo, it won't increase sales at all....
And for those that say the point of it is to get more people preordering/buying it, surely a demo is hardly an incentive to part with your cash? Demos are free anyway, and it's not like you're getting the whole game early? If anything it would be more annoying.

The demo is still coming out over 2 weeks before the game is released, so that will act as showing the game off and getting people to buy it. Just they've managed to bring it out a week in advance for the loyal fans who pre-ordered it to have a chance to play it early.
Stonecold, you're not an idiot, the w****rs at Valve are.
Who's ever heard of using marketing/sales tools to sell to those who have effectively already purchased the product. I hate this company with a vengence. I can honestly say I would pirate Valve games if I could on the 360. They sell a jumped up mod, tiny at that, using an old game engine for the price of a full game, and then hold back a demo to potential customers, not to mention some of which will be new to the game!
I'm guessing it was probably used as an incentive to get people to pre-order. If you get a lot of pre-orders in, you've got a much better chance on making it to No.1 in the sales charts.
The new Jockey Special Infected seems completely useless (just a poor clone of the Hunter). I don't see the point in the "Boomer cans", they're just a crap version of pipe bombs (they attract the horde but don't actually kill them).
The Splitter seems like a good addition and should really **** up teams in Versus that stick closely together.
Crescendos are much better now and don't have you backed up in a corner.
As a developer, I love Valve. And up until this I thought I was always treated well and with respect by them too.
So I've bought the original L4D, HL, HL2 (twice), Episode 1 (twice), Episode 2, Portal, Team Fortress & Team Fortress 2, Counter strike (both for the PC and the Xbox) and Counter-Strike Source. I've played all of them and loved most. I've preordered pretty much all of these as well where I could.
So even given all that love and respect and proven support that I have for Valve (they can look at my 360 history and Steam account for that), the ONE TIME I'm not sure about a product I'm getting a big "f*ck you - you're a second rate customer and you can get the demo later than those who've just wandered into the purchase blindly".
Surely they should be more like "you're not sure? Well come and have a look and have a play of the demo and spend as much time with it as you can. We think it's great and we're sure you'll agree". That's more what I'd expect from Valve.
Wow, I never thought something like this could provoke such a collosal overreaction. It's just a sales tool. And the demo is coming out for everyone else in a few days anyway. And the game still looks great.
Personally, I'm just furious that Valve didn't send me a free copy of the finished game before the started making the first one. BASTARDS.
I took a ton of the pre-order codes from the GAME I work in (I have none left now) and gave them out to my friends. We spent a lot of the night replaying the demo and it is safe to say if you loved the first game then you'll love this one as well.
Ya know, I goty L4D on launch and was not all that taken with it. I have tried many, many times to like it but I just don't. I feel as if there is something I am missing as everyone seems to love this game!
I really enjoyed the demo. Certainly a big improvement over the first one. The Jockey is hilarious, took me to a charger last night, and if you play on Expert, the Jockey does quite a bit of damage!
I hope all the L4D2 boycotters stay away from this game, but as the c**ks they all are, they'll end up buying it anyway, and ruin the online experience by chronic moaning.

Isn't that what they are doing by releasing the demo over 2 weeks before the game goes on sale anyway? Not to mention you'll be able to play the demo for months if you want to make extra sure you want to buy the game.
That's a lot more than most games. When is the COD:MW2 demo? Or the Dragon Age demo, or the AC 2 demo?
Wow there's a lot of hatin in this thread already,I think some people need to play the demo then judge,I understand the frustration at valve's tactics but hey..they are just playin the game like everybody else,It not the first and certainly nowhere near the last time a dev will use tactics like this to garner interest an pre release sales of a game, I decided to pre order the game (which is free to do by the way!!!)as I loved l4d1 and was a bit sceptical about a sequel so soon.
But having been on it pretty constantly since 11 o'clock yesterday morning, I can honestly say it is a really really good fun game to play.
There is no major step in graphics,(same engine so wasn't expecting it anyway), but the gameplay is a nice tuned up tighter revision of the first, the demo gives you two stretches of safe room's and they seem a lot longer and more drawn out than last time which kinda suggests the campaigns will be longer too (5 by the way) there is also a much wider spectrum to explore a bit an less of a rat in a tunnel feeling, The weapons are hugely more varied and fun, Silenced smg's, chrome shotguns, ak47's, elephant shotguns, a couple of sexy variations on sniper rifle's, to name a few, but the fun really is as expected in the mealee weapons, I hoped the frying pan would be a laugh and it truly F@~*&^ing is.. the sword is sh@ hot and the guitar is absolutely amazin to knock heads clean off. never saw the chainsaw, but I am happy to wait for that...
The spcl infected are much more varied, hunters, smokers, chargers are a Bas@rd to avoid and the jockey is just impossible if you are on your own, didnt really enjoy the spitters much, I saw same old boomer but had to pause the game and laugh ,my ass of when I saw a female boomer in a bikini...and the horde numbers are so much larger than the first, One thing that stood out was little unexpected extra's like, the defibrillator to resurrect a dead team mate, and adrenaline shoots that give you 30seconds of super speed which was kinda cool, but one of the most fu n bits was the canisters of boomer bile you can pick an throw, comedy tactics with that and a pipe bomb or the sword were as entertaining as you can get in a zombie slasher.
This demo really did increase my excitement for this game, Valve were telling the truth when they said it was too much to add campaigns too many things are different and it is a better game for it, having played the demo (repeatedly) I am more than happy to fork out for a full price game.
I bet a lot of the people who are griping will get the demo and then the game Trust me it will not dissapoint
i dont know why they would only do it for pre-orders because the only thing it can do it make people cancel their pre-order because they dont like it...
It could lead to that. Alternatively it might cement someone's decision to keep their pre-order. That's what I'm hoping for when I gain access to the PC demo on Nov. 3rd. Until then at least I'll keep my pre-order primed, although I agree with Altitude's sentiments that providing a demo to pre-orders and not those whom may be unsure seems counter-productive (that said, at least the demo will still be available to everyone before the game is actually released, which is the only reason I'm not joining the charge in full). This looks good, IMO.
Exactly. This is a complete non-controversy. Valve FTW.
This.
The people who are still undecided will be able to play the demo for 10 days before the game is released. I can't see how this is so controversial. The only controversy for me is that it was only GAME which did the pre-orders, and I'm sure it would have been EA and not Valve who sorted that deal out.
This looks to improve on the fisrt L4D in every aspect, and I simply cannot wait for November 20th.

I havent pre ordered, however i may get this on release if MW2 is the proposed ridiculous price.
I also played the Parish Level at Thorpe Park a couple of weeks ago in a demo booth, it is much of the same, killing zombies is never tiring!! However killing in the day time was a bit different.

I didn't rate the first one very highly I don't think I will get the second until its a fiver (same price I got the first for)
Haven’t you cancelled you Live sub? If so I see no point in getting this game if you didn’t rate the first one very highly as all the fun is to be had online. It’s kind of pointless having computer AI controlling your team mates, doing everything they’re supposed to do…
Unless you're talking about the PC version of course, in which case I'll shut my dirty whore mouth.

Sony are sick of waiting for Valve to release this on the PS3 and are instead bringing out their own interpretation of the game - aptly named 'Right4Life'.
In the game, you play as a medical wizard, trying to piece the poor zombies back together again for an epic group hug and sing-song.
Songs include: 'Can you dig it?', 'Thriller' and 'Cemetry gates'. There maybe a bonus Limb Bizkit song on there too.
Multiplayer modes include: 'Capture the leg' and 'head to torso match'.

Does Dragons Age Origins really need a demo? (joke mode off)
Seriously stop complaining... The early demo is a reward for all the people who have placed preorders, then the demo will go out 2-3weeks before full release to everyone else who didnt. So why the f**k are people complaining, if you havnt preordered the game then thats your fault. Valve have used a perfectly good marketing strategy here by rewarding people who do preorder. And the reason why your complaining is...?

That's already been explained on this thread at least once. The reason some potential customers whom haven't made up their minds fully yet are unhappy, has to do with the delayed access to a demo. Now, remind me again, what is the purpose of a demo?

Hmmm maybe this has been explained once in this thread but I cant be bothered to read through all your complaining comments and thats all this forum seems to do is bitch about anything and everyone else and anyway I'm only voicing my opinion. And the answer to your sarcastic question is a demo is a sample of a game to be demostrated or played by potential purchasers of the full game and as already stated by CVG the demo will be released on the 3rd of November 17days before the full game gets released, so as I said where is the argument? There isnt one so stop bitching about nothing.

You might want to familiarize yourself with the meaning of the word "Contradiction". Right now there's a picture of you complaining/bitching about others complaining/bitching under it...
Am i seriously the only 1 thats gonna wait for the game to launch ? I love the 1st game but remember how messed up it was to get a game most of the time, servers not working not being able to get into a lobby : / I've still got the 1st game amongst others that i still play regularly & i've got time to play lfd 2 & modern warfare 2 along with some other great looking games well into the new year So i don't see the point of bitching over a demo i'd rather wait for a full game
Jesus, are people really still complaining about this???
You're not getting it late, you're getting it on time. Preorders get it early as a thankyou/bonus. What is up with this place - I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
I missed out on the preorder as I though I could preorder it anytime, but it ran out on 22nd! Oh well, looks like I'll be spending some time with Gay Tony instead.
I've got my pre-order for the PC ready. I think I missed the 22nd Oct. deadline. Oh well, I'm not too fussed about the baseball bat and at least I'll still get a chance to play the demo before my pre-order ships, thus I have a chance to cancel if I'm not impressed with the demo.
