Activision Blizzard has confirmed that a racing-orientated James Bond title is in development at Bizarre Creations.
The game, which isn't tied to a movie storyline, has just been announced at a Massive Inc event where the publisher was showcasing a range of new titles.
There were no further details, other than it's due out in September 2009.
The former Project Gotham Racing (pictured) studio, which was acquired by Activision last year, is also working on an original racing IP tagged as Mario Kart meets Forza, according to MTV Multiplayer.
We'll be on the phone to Activision shortly to see if we can get any more details about the new games.
We got hold of Activision this afternoon but unfortunately the company wasn't able to provide any further details about the new games. Don't hold your breath either, as it seems unlikely there'll be anyhting more on them until early next year, but don't let that stop you sepculating in the meantime.
Does anyone remember 007 Racing on the psone? I only played it once but it seemed like a horrific mess to me. Goddammit Activision, why could Quantum of Solace be good? :'(
This has 'fail' written all over it. A reworking of Spy Hunter might actually be cool (I never played the one done a couple of generations ago), but a racing game with Bond characters is going to feel stupid.
Besides, it's a (loose) movie tie-in, of course it's going to suck. There have been 3 exceptions to this rule in the past 10 years - The Lion King, Goldeneye and Riddick (although I never played the last one).

Re-branded Spy Hunter? Or do they think slapping the Bond name on any old game will guarantee at least some sales?
Ah - Spy Hunter....possibly the first arcade game I ever played.
I'd have to say - the concept to this sounds awful, but Bizarre do make great games; so it'll be worth waiting to see what they come up with.
If we're talking vehicular violence - why have we not heard of a Road Rash remake?, I personally would love to see that....RR2 on the Megadrive is one game I have lots of fond memories of - not quite sure how it'd work if you took it out of 2D though.

Goldeneye, loose movie tie in? Wha? It was pretty damn close to the movie - as much as an FPS can be anyway.

No, the JB racer is a loose tie-in, probably to loads of movies too.
@o Raging Bull o: Yes, the Lion King platformer was surprisingly good. Great soundtrack, good representations of the movie characters, decent selection of game modes, some really tricky bits (those f*cking giraffes). For a Disney platformer it worked well.
T'will be interesting to see what they come up with. I imagine a visually realistic racing game, but with power ups and cool gadgets attatched to the cars. Although if Quantam of Solace is anything to go by, there won't be any gadgets.

That was more a fault with new Bond direction than the game devs though. Seriously, leave Bourne to do his thing. We want Bond to be a charming, suave, Vodka Martini supping womaniser, doing implausible things in implausibe situations.
My cousin works for Bizarre. Unfortunately I don't speak to him often (he lives in Manchester and I'm in the south) but if I do I'll ask him about this. It sounds a bit crap to me too - so I'd like to know what's going on!
I can't decide whether PGR will suffer or benefit from Bizarre not being involved. On the one hand, they did a great job with the series - excellent graphics, lots of fun. On the other hand it was becoming a bit stale, and their attempts to shake things up seemed quite contrived (whoever decided bikes was a good idea needs shooting).

I thought PGR4 was brilliant, yeah the bike's were not so good, not as bad as 'The Club' though.
The weather effects added something i thought, and the in car view is yet to be bettered in a racing game imo.

I think it would be cool racing around in some of Bond's (and the villans') various vehicles. Not sure it's a game on its own though. Now, downloadable Bond vehicles for existing, top-notch racers would be a better idea!
