That's quite surprising. Hopefully I'll be able to rent a copy from Blockbusters to find out for myself.

Fifa10 plays great, but getting there is a real pain.

When it takes longer to manage your team for the next game than it does to actually play the game, you know that something is amiss.

I can't remember Fifa09 being so mind numbingly tedious to navigate during the menu's.

Reading that, it comes across that the downsides of this years PES are the soundtrack and a lack of licences (as usual).

So in other words, nothing that hinders the actual gameplay....

I've critisised the Fifa 10 BAP single player game.

Played the online Ranked Pro game and it's very good. There are a few bugs in the game but hopefully EA will get a patch out soon.

I'd say that is a very fair summary of both games strengths and weaknesses.

Judging both solely on the demos; FIFA certainly plays the more flowing and responsive game, with PES feeling slightly awkward and delayed in comparison. (though I am aware PES is an early demo code & response times will be improved)

The 16 way movement seems a fair statement too, and though it doesn't feel as fluid as FIFA's 360 degree movement, it is much improved over PES 2009.

Saying all that I have still opted for PES this year because I still got that enjoyment from PES that FIFA still doesn't deliver for me. Of course it will always come down to personal preference, but for once I would happily play an evening of FIFA with my mates. FIFA has gone from strength to strength since 08, and PES seems to be back on track this gen - it really is so close to call.

Maybe you could argue that FIFA just edges it as an overall package but PES has certainly raised it's game this year.

Enjoy the game you choose and don’t rubbish the game you didn’t pick. Both offer their own take on the sport and are competent games in their own right. Just because you may prefer one title over the other it doesn’t mean your choice is the out-and-out winner and the other game is rubbish. It is just your opinion, so don’t be a blinkered fan boy with a blind allegiance FIFA or PES. We finally have a year with two decent versions of the beautiful game - which is great for footy fans all round!

I changed to fifa from PES last year and thought that after reading all the fifa10 reviews that this would be the year i finally said goodbye to PES for good. After playing fifa 10 all weekend i have to say i cant stand it, it feels like shooting is out of your control and if u score it was more luck than judgement, long range screamers continually get tipped round the post and there's just no 'feel' in the final third of the pitch.
Also, the new physicality of players is just ridiculous with big meatheaded defenders just barging smaller players off the ball with ease and it makes players like messi useless.
I then went and played the PES10 demo and after terrorizing defenders with messi and smashing in thunderbolts with gerrard i realized that its defo gonna be a return to PES for me this year with Fifa getting traded in , which is wierd because i thought this would be the year that Fifa hooked me for good!

Well having played the demo of Fifa 10 i was impressed, but having bought and played the game all weekend I am far from happy with it. I have recently played pes 2010 and wow the beautiful game is back!!!

I HATE it when mags spend paragraphs going on about the licensing, music and such, the completely irrelevant stuff. A game like Pro is supposed to be played human v human, so if people choose to mess about with Europa Leagues and such, instead of playing it properly, they deserve to suffer a sub-standard experience! And who cares what the music is like? I personally don't give a p*ss how pretty the game is, I care mostly about how the damn thing plays. And no, I won't buy PSM3 for the review, as that mag will be ridiculously overpriced, like all game mags, which is why I come here for all my reviews now. Rant over Smile

Based upon playing the demo's, and now the full release of FIFA, I still feel that FIFA is the better game again this year. The gameplay is amazing. The single player mode is much more challenging this year, and they've added some great little in-match aspects which give even more realism.

The PES demo was far too unresponsive, there was too much of it where I didn't feel in control of anyone on the pitch. Having said that it is a much better game than they have managed so far on the 360 or PS3 so I will probably give it a whirl see what the full release is like.

For me its all about gameplay, and PES wins hands down for me. Maybe its many years of Playing PES, but I just cant get into FIFA at all.

Ity just feels clunky in the last 3rd of the pitch, especially the crossing, it arcs like the the arch at Wembley when crossing and almost impossible to judge. Dont like the shooting either as mentioned by others.

The good thing about FiFA getting better, is that its made the PES team to up their game.

If you haven't played the online play of either game how can you give a final review score?

Surely that's still part of the game - game's have been slammed in the past for poor online when the single player has been fine.

Turn the assisted option of for crossing and it's much better.

Damn right Mantis, turn everything you can onto semi-assisted, passing, crossing and shooting. It gives you more control over everything.
I've been playing Fifa 10 all weekend and i think its the most complete football game i've ever played. I'll play PES when it come out but its gonna take a hell of an improvement over the demo to pull me away from this.
The only bad thing about the game is the "quit 5 online games" achievement/trophy. It may well be a 0pts one but rest assured some frikkin idiots will strive to get it buggering up my 5 consecutive games with different teams in the process.

f**kin hate quitters!

Having now bought FIFA 10, I'm pretty shocked.

Put simply, the graphics are woeful. The player models are unacceptably poor. Many senior players are unrecognisable.

There is serious framerate slowdown during replays (this is on the PS3). The crowd effect in the larger stadiums is awful. And the replays seem to have been 'shot' by an invisiable cameraman running around on the pitch, destroying any sense of realism.

The game itself is quite good (although the ball physics seem off to me, for shooting). But I'm mainly curious why the reviews (on the basis of which I bought this product) did not mention the abysmal graphics.

^ Graphics do not a good game make. FIFA is good fun to play, the 360 dribbling is truely unique, but the shooting is still lagging behind PES. The corners are improved, with a better camera angle, but you need to carefully line up the angle and then get an angle on the analogue stick as well, annoyingly. Crosses seem to be entirely manual, which leads to frustration, and the player likenesses are poor. But. The Manager Mode is excellent, and online it's almost lag-free. PES plays decently, and you have a chance of scoring long range goals. My concern is it still feels primitive compared to FIFA. It's like Konami are still using the basic template from 2001, but building upon it each time.

I haven't bothered changing any of the assisted settings, haven't even looked for them, so maybe I'm completely wrong about the corssing, as well as most of the other areas. I'll have a look later.

I switched to fifa last year after getting sick of waiting for Konami to get their act together on the PES series.

for m - fifa 09 was a triumph and on the strength of it (and without playng the demo) i bought Fifa 10. I admit i hated it at first - it just didnt 'feel' as fluid as last years game.... but after sticking with it for a while im now hooked and wont be returning to PES.

for me - you can talk about license issues not having any bearing on gameplay all you like - but the fact remains that the added licenses DO make a difference to the overall package - in particular the chance to take a low ranking team and take it through the leagues is great and something thats simply not possible with the master league on PES.

Once the assists are turned off i have to say that it play a great game of footy and for that reason i wont even bother to download the PES demo.... im happy with what i have now so whats the point in going back to PES?

ironically this year id actually get to play as my team (wolves) on PES - but im still sticking with Fifa.... and thats something i never thought id say in a million years!

I have no idea what people are talking about saying Pro has died and Fifa has definitely kicked Pro’s ass this year etc etc… I’ve played both games, obviously just the Pro demo but it doesn’t matter as you get a good idea of the game, and I think Pes 2010 is an awesome game from what I’ve seen. I think that football games are so addictive and played so often that you get use to the feel of the game and can predict what will happen, which means it takes time to get use to a new game. My first thought of Pro was that the quick-turning and passing was quite slow, but after time I realised that this was realistic as only players like Messi, Ronaldo etc are able to take on a whole defence.

The goalkeepers in Pes 2010 are actually awesome, the saves look real, there are a variety of saves, the catches look better even the drop kicks look great. No problem there…

The shots are like 2009, great in my opinion (can’t deny they weren’t good as Fifa 09 shots were awful), the kicks look awesome as do crosses and free kicks are much, much better. Through ball is also better allowing a more tactical approach to passing.

The graphics are unsurpassed, every player I’ve seen looks amazing, pitches are great, and details like the crowd are great.

Overall the best football game if you want actual simulation and great graphics to go with it, I’m sure there’s more to come.
