In 2006 a band of ex-STALKER developers, 4A Games announced FPS, Metro 2033. Now in 2009, band of ex-STALKER developers, 4A Gamer have erm, announced FPS, Metro 2033.
THQ's the publisher behind the now 360 and PC-only first-person shooter (PS3 has been seemingly dropped), and it promises to "plunge gamers into a terrifying vision of the future." A bit like STALKER, then.
Set in the shattered subway of a post apocalyptic Moscow, Metro 2033 is a story of intensive underground survival where "the fate of mankind rests in your hands", says the publisher.
"In 2013 the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the earth's surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new Dark Age.
"The year is 2033," the dramatic plot reading continues. "An entire generation has been born and raised underground, and their besieged Metro Station-Cities struggle for survival, with each other, and the mutant horrors that await outside."
Apparently you play as Artyom, a man raised underground but now forced by a "fateful event" to journey to the desolate wastelands above and save the world. The story's apparently based on the book of the same name by Dmitry Glukhovsky, whom we've never heard of. Probably because we're not from Ukraine.
"4A Games have worked closely with Dmitry Glukhovsky to deliver a unique game world, a compelling, cinematic story and an incredible, atmospheric experience to rival anything in the category," says THQ VP, Richard Williams.
"Metro 2033 boasts some of the most advanced graphics and PhysX effects we've ever seen," said Ujesh Desai, vice president of GPU business at NVIDIA. "From what we've seen so far, this will be a showcase PC gaming title for 2010!"
We look forward to the third announcement in 2011.
What about gameplay mechanics/unique features? If you are going to announce your game by the story, you should at least try to make it sound different from say, Fallout 3.
I think this is the first I've heard of this game. The sales pitch could use some work, IMO, yet it tickled my interest enough that I would like to see more details about this game in the near future.
Actually, it doesn't look too bad. Would have been nice to see some of the enemies or some ingame action but yes, it is very Fallout 3 which is a good thing.
So, another game that is a generic copy of a decent game is not going to PS3, probably due to lazy untalented dev staff unable to program for PS3. It's not like the PS3 can't do it, Killzone 2 etc has shown us that it can.
This game is not a loss to PS3 owners.
Personally I've got both consoles and would prefer if ONE decent game came out rather than 10 generic copy cash in titles for both 360 and PS3.
Oh and before I've finished.. Stalker. One of the worst game engines developed in recent years, a mamoth pc spec required just to overcome the failings of a less than average deveopment team. And even then it would still crash.
While I do agree that "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SOC" was a disappointment in terms of game stability and bugs, I did enjoy several aspects of the game while playing it (though I haven't gone back to it after I completed it). I'm also not convinced about the pedigree of the programmers involved. Big ideas, but poor execution.
While this game here stirs some of the same concerns for it that I have for the "S.T.A.L.K.E.R." franchise, I do find it somewhat pointless to pass final judgement on it already considering the game is not out yet.
Good to hear this has survived, as it did sound good when I first read about it.
Completley agree. Havent heard anything about this Game in a while and from what I remeber the story and graphics looked pretty good.
One to keep an eye on.
Maybe it has been revived on the back of FO3's success as well as Borderlands (selling out in the USA by all accounts from what I have read).
Good point. After a bit of digging around the web, i found this video, very Fallout and Borderlands (which isnt necessarily a bad thing).

Could be one to look out for, just dont release it in the first 6 months of next year and they should be ok .
Watched that a bit earlier on gametrailers looking good, people saying in forum it is made with a stolen S.T.A.L.K.E.R. engine just because some of the devs were from that titles early development. Borderlands is looking great too cant wait to play it.
