OPM: Killzone 3 for 2010

Official PlayStation mag rumours Killzone sequel next year
The December issue of the US Official PlayStation Magazine is rumouring that Killzone 3 could be released next year.

In a feature titled 'The Secret Games of 2010', the magazine says: "Insider slips reveal three big names you can already pencil for the next year," before going on to say that "Killzone 3 is reportedly deep in development".

We wouldn't have expected a sequel until 2011, if we had to place a bet, but it's not impossible to imagine if Guerrilla really knuckled down (and recycled plenty of those assets).

According to reports the mag also says: "Insomniac's Full Moon Show podcast hints at a project we can only conclude is Resistance 3, and a Treyarch employee's online mentions a Call of Duty: World at World sequel."

If this all materialises, next year is going to be more wallet pain for PS3 fans.

Doesn't really surprise me. It has a great engine, so the hard work is basically done.

I just finished KillZone 2 and loved every moment of the campaign. I didn't find it slow and sluggish... in fact I liked the more realistic feel and atmosphere.

I am newish to console FPS and never thought I would get to grips with a controller over keyboard / mouse but it was no problem at all.

Can't wait for more of the same, hopefully with much improved graphics.

I'm not so taken with the online multiplayer, though I haven't played it much. How do you choose to be a medic?
Padua on 20 Oct '09
If there's a gaming god that's listening. Please bring out the next game with co-op story mode and make it at least 4-6 hours longer. And how about the choice to play the Helghast? Apart from that KZ3 would be a huge welcome Smile

Yeah I loved it too, the only thing missing was campaign co-op.

I didn't like the online multiplayer at first either, then all of a sudden i realised it was awesome. You have to persevere a bit with it. You can only become a medic once you have ranked up a few times.

The warzone mode is best, though often games can take around 45 mins

Here's a KZ2-based question. Would I need to have played the original to understand what's going on in KZ2? I may as well give it a go considering the good feedback.
altitude2k on 20 Oct '09
I heard that KZ2 is a little better if you played KZ1 (I didnt) because gaps in the story. I really enjoyed KZ2 none the less. The lack of coop was a minor setback for me as I don't play online with random people too often because people online can be idiots. News of KZ3 is good though I for one will be getting it.
gogo65uk on 20 Oct '09
I've been wondering that too.

resistance 3 was accidently revealed on a movie set a couple weeks ago. But i heard it wasn't coming out until 2011.

you think they ran out of steam at the end of the article though. Treyarch amking the next COD and it being out next christmas is pretty damn obvious if you ask me.

Bought my 2nd PS3 for this game and after a week was on a KDR off 5.00+ Head shots are far far to easy to pull off and the games levels both SP and MP do get very tedious.

Some nice features but overall felt alittle bit shallow compared to a few other main FPS. Personally the engine on my 50 inch 1080P plasma didnt impress me as much as GOW, Uncharte.d2 or MW1
lobo666gaara on 20 Oct '09
I have never seen or played KZ1 and it didn't affect my enjoyment of the story or game. I never even realized there were gaps... it seems pretty self contained if you ask me. I didn't think the story was that deep anyway... but it was ok.

I'll keep on battling with the online multi-player. I'm really enjoying uncharted 2 demo online coop - this would work great with a four player squad in Kill Zone.

So... three FPS games then... Yawn.
milky_joe on 20 Oct '09
Treyarch did a damn good job with world at war. contrary to what the modern warfare lovers say. It sold more and had more map packs. Personally I dont care I play/like COD games but don't get all defensive and skitty over them, and say no other FPS even compares to them like some people do. Would gladly buy a ww2 one year and modern warfare the next. It doesn't bother me as a game player I just want to play good games I dont care about the theme or developers too much.
gogo65uk on 20 Oct '09
I think the Helghast point of view as a story would be better and if Guerrilla need some inspiration watch the film Cross Of Iron.

And make it possible to use the stealth classes in the SP campaign.I'd like a killzone/rainbow 6/splinter cell type FPS next please .
lawless1891 on 20 Oct '09
KZ3 next year would be very worrying, even if they dont change any tech i'd expect it to take longer than that.

gears of war games seem to have 2 year time difference so i would expect kz3 in early 2011 at the earliest.
pishers on 20 Oct '09
it really all depends on whther they took a break after finishing development of KZ2 and how many ideas they had kicking about that they wanted to do but couldn't put in. If they use the same engine then a year and a bit is plenty of time to make a decent third entry if you consider that they'll of already hacve all the assests to make it.
WHERESMYMONKEY on 20 Oct '09
If someone said to me Resistance 3,Gears 3 id say ye.Didnt and still dont expect Killzone 3 next year. They will say its out November isshh then delay it to Spring 2011.
Forge88 on 20 Oct '09
Considering this report I had the thought that maybe KZ2 + 3 were in development at the same time, much like they make movies (think LOTR) so that they can coincide, being made back to back kind of thing, could be that scenario. But in that instance I guess KZ2 would have been left on a cliffhanger.

However, those mentions of perhaps playing from the HG perspective is an interesting notion. It could be a replay of the events of KZ2 but as the HG, not a new story altogether, except after the end bit it carries on. Perhaps it starts halfway through KZ2 and expands past the end bit.

That would be pretty cool, although perhaps a little too samey, but all the same - good ideas people.

I look forward to more info on this

2010?!?! Thats b******s. If the past is any indication, KZ3 won't be out until 2013! I would be surprised if ANY of those games make it out next year. 2009 has been called "The year of the delay." I think it's just the start of "The decade of the delay." We're going to be waiting a while, mates. Might as well forget you heard about it at all.

No, there's only a very slight cross over.
voodoo341 on 20 Oct '09
I doubt it would be out that early but you never know. Whenever it does come out though , I'll be sure to preorder a copy. KZ2 was one of the best next gen fps games so far imo, so I'm looking forward to a sequel.

yeah late 2010 if not early 2011

Factor in delays... 2012

Or 2020 if it's anything like Alan Wake.

Oh my, think I've just wet myself! Surprised

This is great news as I was getting concerned that I'd missed my boat with the first game - in light of MW2 and MAG coming fairly soon...

Yippeeeee!
