Colin McRae: Dirt 2 is coming to PC on December 1 in North America, 3rd through EPAC territories and finally the UK on December 4. It won't just be a port of the console versions though.
"Codemasters will take advantage of DirectX 11 features to add to the realism of the racing environment," says the turbocharged press release.
"Hardware tessellation will further improve the appearance of water and other surfaces as well as crowd animations. The performance of Shader Model 5.0 will aid in creating an even richer 3D experience, enhancing key image quality parameters such as depth of field, ambient occlusion and shadows. These DirectX 11 features, and many others, combine to deliver the most exciting and visceral racing experience yet."
cool, didnt realise it was out so soon, if there is a higher than expected performance boost with the DX11 version ill probably pickup a 5850( most likely in January though ), at least Nvidia will have shown their Fermi hand by then, also theres ATI's dual 5950( Hemlock ) supposed to be released in November which should be the fastest card around
Aye. I'm tempted to jump on the 58XX bandwagon, but I'm holding out to see what Fermi offers along with what I expect will be price drops late this year/early next year as the 5900 arrives. I'm also hoping for non-reference 58XX designs to start arriving before Christmas.
I wonder whether my newly arrived copy of Windows 7 will start to act up when I eventually change the GPUs? Oh well. MS has so far been quite lenient in resetting the activation count, in my experience.

I've had Windows 7 at home for about a month now (my work is in the MS partner programme, so we get prereleased stuff - and they're pretty liberal about us taking it home). Games still work well but I found out the hard way that Windows 7 doesn't support dual cards in SLI mode.
On the other hand, we've got an ATI V7600 in a test machine here which was about Ł500 worth of graphics card when we bought it last year, and we cannot install the bugger. Windows 7 won't even recognise it and uses "VGAsave" which is like the default VGA output.
I think basically it's going to be hit and miss for the next few months on graphics.
