New Super Mario Bros. Wii will challenge even the most hardcore gamers, reckons the UK Official Nintendo Magazine, who says it's "the sort of game you bought a Nintendo console for."
The review, which hands the game a huge 96 percent, says: "The game does start off as easy as its handheld sibling did (by the end of World 3 we had earned 68 lives), but it soon gets fiendishly difficult and will have even the most die-hard Mario players cursing at times."

The multiplayer elements don't get in the way of the game's hardcore design either, says ONM. "Instead of feeling like it was designed primarily for four players with the single-player mode as an afterthought, it seems like the opposite is true."
ONM states "This is the sort of game you bought a Nintendo console for. Not those daft mini-game collections that are considered a success if the controls actually work."
We'll be playing the game from start to finish this week. In the meantime you can buy a copy of ONM for £3.99 and get it delivered to your door here.
Hmm, we'll see. Although ONM aren't as bad as PS and XBox official mags (particularly the latter) for reviews - "OMG its like something I've never ever seen before! I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT!" - I'll wait and see what others think as well. I mean, I'll be buying the game at some point anyway
Jesus only nintendo could get away with this crap on what you all call a next gen console. Proof indeed that it isn't next gen. Just last gen with old tech controllers thrown in. Yes they are old tech. Nintendo didn't invent any new tech they just adapted and bundled them with the console.

Take note people, one of the best examples of how not to be taken seriously on this or any forum. Uneducated fanboy ranting at its very best, or is that worse..lol

And games like Gears of War and GTA 4 are really 'next gen' right? F**k off! There's loads of games out there for these so called 'next gen' consoles where the AI is beyond retarded. Those two games being perfect examples. I've never played such infuriating games. All they have is a fresh lick of paint and nothing else!
And the 360 is what in tech? Complete a*se comes to mind

It's a 2D platformer. You know... like LittleBigPlanet...
So far it seems to be the same games we played last gen with a better paint job. Kind of like the leap from 8-16bit was. Everything prettier and theres more things to hit at a time, but a part from that nothings changed.
At least the wii attempted to change how you played games. Must of been a success as its one of the best selling consoles ever and the competiition are soon to release thier own motion controllers.
Every one to their own. I loved mario when i had no other choice as a child but thank god times have changed and games have matured from mere jumping around and timing awwww but i do miss throwing turnips
you could say gamings gotten overly complicated at times though. there's something intrinsicly fun about the old 2d mario games though. they're just as fun now as they were when i was a kid. for me anyway.

While they probably intended this as praise, it sure sounds like really harsh criticism.
I hate that Nintendo rely soooo heavily on Mario/Zelda/Metroid etc and I DO love my Wii bashing but I have to say I'm probably going to buy this one and will enjoy it...Until then Uncharted 2 will have to keep my occupied! Awesome! I'd say that is as close to next gen as you'll get so far in that it is total immersion, gameplay, graphics, story, excitement, fun...It has it all!

To be honest most games are still about timing and jumping around. They are just covered in a layer of eye candy to distract you. I will take a Mario Galaxy and this new game over any new gears of war or killzone. To me the Mario games show far more maturity than running around pretending to be some sort of crack soldier. But then I do not need to pretend I am mature to impress my friends, as long as it is a good game I don't care if there is blood flowing in a madworld style, guns firing like COD or pink fluffy and happy like kirby. A good game is a good game no matter what system it is on or what type of game it is.
I'm purchasing this as soon as it somes out. Y' know, 'cos it looks fun.
I'm sure that's what this video gaming lark's all about. Whether the game looks this gen or last gen or 90's gen or 80's gen etcetera.
One 4 player game to play on Christmas Day with my 3 brothers in the same room I reckon. Followed by a sesh on Goldeneye, then .. um.. one of the many 'next gen' games with a local 4 player mode... yeah.
