Graphics giant Nvidia has won the contract to supply technology for Nintendo's new handheld, a report claims.
According to Develop's "inside sources", the new Nintendo handheld - apparently set to be revealed at the end of next year - will be powered by Nvidia's "system-on-a-chip device", known as Tegra.
Tegra has been developed for use in smart phones and other mobile devices such as Microsoft's Zune HD.
It sports an "ARM-based processor with integrated Geforce graphics", and should give the next Game Boy/DS/Whatever a significant upgrade over the current Nintendo DS.
If true, Nvidia will have more than made up for the loss of the next Xbox contract, which has supposedly stuck with ATI.
They had better not unviel a new system next year, I just bought a bloudy dsi. I used to like nintendo but over the last year they are really p**sing me off.
It would be stupid of them to release a new handheld. I mean, look at that "third pillar" nonsense they said before the original DS was released: the machine just took over everything and the GBA was left behind in a flash.
The DS is selling so well and releasing another 'pillar' would just possibly confuse and anger consumers

If you've only just bought it, just take it back for a refund
Having said that, look at all the people that went out and bought the DSi. That was released roughly three years after the Lite. Three years is not exactly a 'short' space of time. I don't think this alleged new machine will be out for a while yet. Its too short a time between the DSi and the end of next year

Chances are it won't so much be a totally new handheld, but the DSi2 or some other type of upgrade to the existing DS range. Maybe even an SD-less DSGo.
I still have the original Phat DS. I don't feel the need to get a new lite version. So the release of these 'upgrades' are not essential. However, this sounds more like new tech as opposed to an upgrade of sorts. It's in the roumor pile anyway.

It's a rumor, genius.
I understand that but as the old saying goes 'where there's smoke there's fire' plus looking back on announcements in the past it would fit the timeframe, plus the ds feels like it's been around forever, and rumours have been around for a year or so about some sort of 2010 announcement.

People thought they were going to announce a new handheld this year, and a new Wii console next year.
It's the same thing every year.
The "no smoke without fire" rarely holds any stock in this industry. How about this:
Nintendo are going to announce a gaming PC tomorrow!!
Are you going to believe that. Just because one site says something and then labels it from their 'secret insiders', don't go and assume it's true. In this case it's very like that it isn't, Nintendo kill off the DS next year? REALLY!? If they had sources to back it up, then maybe.
It's about time Nintendo announced a true successor to the DS. It's sure to be another dual screen and backwards-compatible with current DS games. A proper joystick similar to the Neo-Geo Pocket would be great -- dunno why no-one's done that since -- and dual joysticks would be superb. Gamecube-level hardware?
They can keep it DS with touch screen, Gamecube-level hardware is a must, backwards compatiblity, and interent and downloable apps out of the box, no useless add-ons.

Yeah your right, guess I was getting ahead of myself.

This would be the right thing. I've just been thinking, the DS is close to approaching five years old now (how time flies!) so a real successor doesn't seem that wrong. Its only because the DS is still selling so well and games are still being released. I think Nintendo would kill off the DS with this machine, but if it does have backward compatability, devs could still make games for it.
They probably won't though as tends to be the case. Once something new comes out, they all jump s**t except for the big companies who can release games on all formats
