Namco's Splatterhouse gets 2010 date

Retro remake out in Europe next year
Namco Bandai's confirmed that its retro remake of Splatterhouse will be out in Europe next year.

The game - which was moved from original developer BottleRocket to an in-house Namco team, probably because it was rubbish - follows College beefcake Rick Taylor on a bloody trail to recover his missing girlfriend, with the help of the powerful "Terror Mask".

It sounds simple, but apparently the plot's been penned by comic book author Gordon Rennie (Judge Dredd) with artwork scribbled by Marvel contributor Dave Wilkins.

"Today's console technology is literally decades ahead of what powered Splatterhouse when it made its first indelible bloody mark on gaming, which means we now have gore like never before for all the fans and the new generation of gamers lining up to get to grips with Rick," said Namco sales VP Hiroaki Ochiai.

"If you have the stomach for it, there's nothing more satisfying than beating a hell beast to death with its own leg."

Indeed. It's due on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

I used to play the original at my local arcade on my lunch break. At the time, it was quite sick. Looks interesting. We'll see how it turns out I guess.
