Bungie says it has a 'six-year plan' for the Halo series, which will cumulate in all novel, anime and game canon tying together.
"We do have a plan that goes out at least six years," creative director, Frank O'Conner told USA Today. "Eventually, it will become very apparent that there is a plan for the way the canon all ties together and the way the comic books and the novels all tie together."
Various Halo projects are due in the coming months, spanning books ('Halo: Evolutions'), comics ('Halo: Helljumper'), anime (Halo Legends) and of course, games (Halo Reach).
O'Conner describes next year's Halo Reach as "a chronological prequel but it is not a prequel in the directions the Star Wars prequels were to the (original) movies." Stating the obvious he said it'll be a first-person shooter with multiplayer component that will "cover events in and around the planet Reach."

On the missing in action movie Bungie pulls the usual line ("We're being very careful to pick the right time and the right partner") and drops a hint that we may not have seen the last of the Master Chief.
"I think that [Master Chief's] fate, Cortana's fate and the identity of that giant, dark planet at the ending (on the game's hardest skill level) are probably big mysteries that would be irritating if they were just cliffhangers," says O'Connor.
I would love to see the integration of Halo Wars into the traditional Halo games. Perhaps the Chief gets intercepted by the "lost" Spirit of Fire and we get an RTS game where we replay some of the missions but from the Chief's perspective in FPS.
In a way it would be kinda like Total Air War (if anyone remembers that on the PC) where you would command planes from the AWACS and jump into any available F22.
I do like Halo, but i do find it a bit frustrating that to get the full story you have to read the books & comics etc. I don't see why as its a game we can't have the full story there without the need for buying al these extra bits. Perharps a CGI film on DVD that could fill in all the gaps would be good.

You can get along just fine without the extra material. But it's good that it's there for those that want to do some reading.
The only book that's actually fairly important to read is the Fall of Reach, but they're making a game of that now, so there's not much need to worry.
At least it's nice to know they have actually put some thought into this project and not just milking it as most would think. Reach should be cool but I'm more interested in picking back up where Halo 3 left off.
the bit where they say we havent seen the last of master chief.... just a wild shot in the dark here and probably my mind just making up nonsense, but at the end of halo3 where the ship gets split in half and the half with cortana and master chief is floating in space near that inhabited planet, does anyone else think they could have been through a rip in a spacetime continuim type thingy and theyve ended up in the past orbiting reach????
btw- ive never read the books so dont verbally lash me for thinking that lol...
MS and Bungie are constantly accused of 'milking' the Halo name and Franchise, to me this shows that they have a clear vision of where the name and brand are going.
I don't think so... John 117 was elsewhere when Reach fell, but he was around then. To go back before the covenant invaded wouldn't make sense, but to go forwards, well Reach was glassed by the covenant, there is nothing left.
The planet is clearly significant, there was some speculation it may be Marathon, or directly related to Marathon. Personally I think it is either the covenant homeworld or something to do with the Forerunners, and thus the Halo rings.
I love the fact the Halo universe is so rich and deep. I laugh at the accusations of 'milking' the franchise. That's like saying they milked Star Trek. Anything that services the fan base of a property and deepens/widens the mythology cannot be considered milking.

That would be one remarkable coincidence if they just happened to end up back around Reach, don't you think! Unless the Forerunners decided to intervene...
There's already an MC on Reach fighting it out, so I think that's enough for that particular game. Will be good to go back to fighting Elites as well.
But a continuation of the story at a later date would certainly be welcomed.

maybe reach is somehow connected to the rings, thus master chief being thrown back there when the one on earth in halo 3 went bang, and maybe why the covenant attacked reach in the first place, im probably spouting huge hairy bollox tho lol, just speculation...

I think Reach was only ever really important to humans as it was effectively the centre of operations for the UNSC. I haven't read much about it's importance with regards to the rings.
Earth was far more important to the Forerunners, which is why they built the portal to the Ark there.
EDIT: Actually, there was a Forerunner artifact found on the surface of Reach that was of great importance to the Covenant. This was a Forerunner crystal that was able to bend time and space. Maybe there is some truth to your logic...
Frank doesnt work with Bungie anymore. Is this Bungie's six year plan? Or just Halo's six year plan, because we all know MS have set up an internal Halo team now

I think it was a misprint. Bungie have nothing to do with the canon anymore outside their own games (which for the forseeable future will only be Reach). I'm sure this word comes from the plans of 343 Industries.
