Leak: Xbox gets its own 'PlayStation Home'?

Screenshots and details emerge for 'Xbox Avatar RetroCade'
Images and details have leaked onto the net for something called 'Xbox Avatar RetroCade', which looks strikingly similar to Sony's PlayStation Home.

Mentioned in a previously-secret consumer survey sent to Joystiq, the "virtual Avatar arcade" could be called "Game Room," "RetroCade," "Classics LIVE" or "Tower of ROM." We like the last one.

It looks incredibly similar in concept to PlayStation Home's own arcade, though if the leaked survey's anything to go by it's not going to be free of charge.

The second survey question asks, "Which of the following names would most compel you to purchase the product?" indicating that the "Xbox arcade" might not be a totally free space.

We've contacted Microsoft for comment.

Ha!

It's not particularly worth it on the PS, still at least the Xbox and PS guys can both have it on an even playing field.

That just leave Nintendo to follow suit with the Mii's - lololololol

as long as it free, then its a good idea, and as long as it dosnt try and be like home, but just a cool place to see old arcade machines of the games you have bought over live.

I second the motion for tower of ROM by the way.

Has any one seen that film gamer? dont you think they saw home and then ripped that off for movie?
The_Hun1 on 8 Oct '09
Shocked Good god, why? Did they not see/research the awfulness that is Home? And then asking for payment for it? Tsk tsk Microsoft- you bunch of wallies.

I'll be giving this a wide birth unless it magically turns out to be something interesting instead... which I doubt.
MrPirtniw on 8 Oct '09
noone is calling out for this garbage...

they just want to fleece micro-transactions out of fools.
svd_grasshopper on 8 Oct '09
Haha!
bunneyo on 8 Oct '09
It’s only a survey, it’s not even an official plan…yet. Unless they were using a particularly rich and stupid section of society as their sample then most people would have said they were not interested in paying each time to play ancient games in a digital arcade. Though that said, most people are t**ts so what would I know.
Conkers on 8 Oct '09
Svd grasshopper, do yourself a favour – get a 360 and you'd satisfy your obsession with them. You're all over practically any article 360 related, so it's more than a general interest you have. Life must be miserable and frustrating as a Sony 'fan', so do yourself (and everyone who's had the displeasure of reading your crap) a favour. You know you want one. Desperately.
Jensonjet on 8 Oct '09
You dont have to play this so why worry its the same with Home(sad tw@ land)its there but you dont have to use it Rolling Eyes
dangermou5e on 8 Oct '09
Nobody uses Home, so why are MS bothering with this? Give me the iPlayer and 4OD instead.
altitude2k on 8 Oct '09
what the f**k....

then again, thinking about it MS aren't the most ORIGINAL companies in the industry.

Even Windows is a stolen mutated idea.
capsule_toy on 8 Oct '09
Yup... MS and Sony are always nicking ideas off one another. It's been going on for ages. Though in this case it's definately not a good thing.
MrPirtniw on 8 Oct '09
Been thinking about deleting Home from the PS3 drive for a while now, I'm still waiting on them doing something with it that's worth bothering with.

At least an arcade like this where you can hang out and play mini-games while surrounded by other people doing the same thing, is sort of cool. I loved arcades when I was a kid, but I (like a lot of people) learned to value my money more than that so went for stuff I could buy and replay.

Would be even sweeter if they could stream the games, so you could go from playing Enduro Racer one minute to Chase HQ the next Smile

But no, I doubt I'll be bothering with this. There's too many actual games that I'd rather clutter up my disk with.

Yeah, I seen Gamer. I loved some of the nods in the movie. Did you see the one part when there was a guy with the name in his bubble above his head as 'Myballsache' or something like that. That was funny. Art imitating imitation life Smile
kimoak on 8 Oct '09
Why any company would feel the need to produce their own version of the disaster that is Home is beyond me.

I used it once, and then deleted it.

Looks less like Home and more like a hasbro game night where you wander over to the game that you want to play - doesn't make it any better or right

Spot on Jensonjet.

Grasshopper, have you considered professional help regarding your fixation?

You're just like one of those outspoken homophobes who is only ranting so much because secretly he fancies men...
Moribundman on 8 Oct '09
Everyone knocks home but I thinks it's a good idea very poorly implemented. If they built a world that your avatar could actually interact with it could be fun. An arcade full of top quality retro games would be a great start, I mean have you seen the complete guff on homes tiny arcade it a f**king insult. Perhaps Microsoft can actually fulfill some of Homes untapped potential.

Stop trolling fanboy. You see the name Grasshopper and just start bashing with you 360 fanboyism. You can like him or hate him but he is dead right with what he said. This IS to stimulate Microtransaction, just like Home. Home is marketing piece of crap and so will this be.
Dewin on 8 Oct '09
I kind of agree with SVD here (though not with his spelling of 'bait').

Personally I can't see what credibility a rip off of the worst of Sony's many rubbish PS3 'ideas' would lend Microsoft. They are already running rings around the opposition in terms of online services. Home is a horrible back fire for Sony, who the hell would want a piece of that rancid pie?

Dumb.
FlimFlam on 8 Oct '09
Ha hilarious. This will be another poor man version of Home where microsoft try to copy Sony again like they did with Lips and Singstar. People who say Home is crap dont ever use it so can't comment. Home is brillaint and free and i bet this won't be. M$ will try to wean more money from the xbox consumers. Thank god I got out.
leon452 on 8 Oct '09
*sigh* Why?! Oh well, all the more reason for me to keep my Xbox 360 Pro disconnected from the 'net. Laughing If they charge money for this potential turkey it had better offer something extraordinary, which I remain highly skeptical of, to say the least!
The_KFD_Case on 8 Oct '09
noone is calling out for this garbage...

It wouldn't be the first time a company has concocted such a scheme, and I'm inclined to agree with you that, that is quite possibly exactly what MS is aiming for.

Microsoft asking you to pay for something you can get for free on PlayStation? never, now there's a shocker
DarrenR on 8 Oct '09
HA HA HA HA HA, I love it. Playstation Home is ridiculed daily and MS thinks it's a good idea to release their own version, probably for another monthly fee? f**k off! At least the base Home is free and you aren't required to buy anything!
RandyChimp on 8 Oct '09
They can charge however much they like for it! If it's a Home style thing I won't be getting near it regardless of whether it was free or not.
I'll leave that to those without the ability to talk to real women.

You mean you are meant to talk to women? Oh how wrong I have been all these years.
lonewolf2002 on 8 Oct '09
Who cares about Home? I don't at all. This is a stupid move by MS, but if they're in it for the money, then it does work, for those stupid enough to buy micro transactions like a few virtual sofas for £3.

Home had potential, it just ended up being a complete disaster! Its worse that crap!

MS need to learn by Sony's disaster and make sure its good before releasing this.

Laughing Brilliant! The xbot mob have written off something because its been possibly similar to Home on the PS3.

It's only a question in a survey, we know nothing about it and don't even know if it's going to happen but f**k it sounds like Home and we've been rubbishing Home (even though we've never used it) so we'll have to attack it. Of course if Microsoft release it, it will be the greatest thing ever just because we have to pay for it.

Laughing
voodoo341 on 8 Oct '09
Though I don't consider myself part of the 'Xbot' mob- I'm definately rubbishing it- especially if we're expected to pay for it.
It's CVG that has compared it to Home and personally, if that's what this does end up as- walking my avatar around bland environments dancing at people is the last thing I'd use my console for... even if it was free!

Actually the last thing I'd use my console for would be as a pigeon firing ghetto blaster but you get the point...

Anyone using Home should slap themselves and get playing Uncharted 2 instead. Laughing
MrPirtniw on 8 Oct '09
Ahhh yes! Of course the local boil on Sony's ass graces us with his appearance. Bravo Voodoo!Laughing I take it from your comments that you are enamored with Sony's "Home"? That good is it? Is it the random online guys virtually dancing against you that does it for you? Or perhaps it's the vapid lack of visionary direction that truly gets you on board with "Home"? Laughing

I'm ever so glad to see that the irony of your comments are apparently lost on you. After all your usual Sony Defence Force knee-jerk reactions would never result in an attack upon those whom do not worship the PS3....Oh wait. Laughing

Speaking of thick, are you perchance referring to the very same survey that neither you nor I have seen? And you have the gall to chastise others for posting their thoughts on the matter? If that's the case then please adhere to your own standards and STFU, thanks! Very HappyLaughing As for being up one's backside, why don't you do yourself, us and the rest of the world a favour and completely climb up your own hole so that it can devour you, only to spit out a steaming turd. Anyway, wait until you see the praise Xbots will give to their Xbox 360 "Live Home" after years of slagging the PS3s freebie.

It'll be hilarious.

PS. Slagging off a free service while getting ripped off is like punching yourself in the face in the hope it'll make you look better.

Nice faning CVG ...
