The fans asked and Sega actually listened: Ryo Hazuki, star of the Shenmue series, is making his return via Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. See him in action below.
"He shall appear from a far eastern land across the sea, a young man who has yet to know his potential... And he'll be driving a badass motorcycle," says Sega.
"And when a motorcycle just can't cut it, Ryo unleashes his All-Star move and is able to swap vehicles to his iconic forklift truck to charge and barge opponents out of the way!"

Sega says the Shenmue protagonist - who first appeared ten years ago in the ambitious Dreamcast adventure - is rather unsurprisingly the "most requested" Sega character to make an appearance in All-Stars Racing.
Rubbing it in a bit, it also mentions that he's "yet to gain his revenge", which we know about all too well. Sniff.
The game's out next year. We've already got our first choice in, now for Toejam & Earl/Alex Kidd please, Sega.
God damn Sega! Give us Shenmue 3!! I will never rest in peace until i see the end of the story. How can you pass the best ever game you ever released. Bring Yu Suzuki back and Ryo Hazuki!!
Try and see the positives of this. Shenmue isn't completely dead. Ryo is back, ok he's not back in the form we all wanted, but he's not dead. I still (and always will) have hopes for Shenmue 3!
I hope they get the original actor back to do his voice. It's been far to long since the immortal phrases "Do you know anything about the Mad Angels?" and "Do you know of a place where sailors hang out?" have graced my ear drums...

Ryo is going to stand out a lot from the other character isn't he? I think this is a ridiculous idea- but hopefully the demand for Ryo will tell Sega that the fans want Shenmue 3. I know I do.
But then Sega's latest ideas have been all but rubbish. Below is a REAL conversation bewteen the bigwigs at Sega (blatent lie).
I cant believe they ignore fans for ten years then bring back one of there best loved characters in a stupid racing game, i dont get it, they never made money on shenmue fair enough, but the engine they built was used for yakuza 1 and 2 and that made money (alot of it) and they have the yakuza 3 engine already, all they have to do is mod it and build a new shenmue out of it, or at least remake the 1st 2 games with it for the build up to the new one
I would buy it again, heck even buy a new console for it, if that was needed.
Ps i suppose i will buy this game now, just because it has ryo in it, what about lan di or some sailors though

Let's hope this is a sign of things to come. Either this is a throwback so that Shenmue fans might get this game, or it's a sign, as he's too obscure a character for most casual gamers to recognise.
SVD, just shut up alright, shut up! I dip in and out of the CVG post boxes occasionally and all I ever see is you trying to get a rise out of everyone by posting pathetic, uneducated posts.
Let me clarify that your opinion is worthless, you have no authority whatsoever.
It's not pathetic that Sega are putting Ryo in the game, it's fan service. I love my classic games and nice curios, but I hate the way that games like Shenmue and Rez get this rampant notoriety because they are hard to buy and go for ridiculous amounts on eBay.
Yes the DC originals were superb, but case and point. Rez, for example, is NOT a good game, it's a fun, abstract title but both it and Shenmue fall into the long list of relics that people refuse to let go of but really should, both garnering a stupid amount of fanboy praise despite not being that breathtaking. Time makes the heart go fonder and Shenmue just isnt that groundbreaking or exciting anymore, neither is Rez.
If you don't want to play All Star Racing don't. It's THAT SIMPLE mate. I'll get this game because All Star Tennis was a brilliant trip down memory lane.
My two cents: Get the Streets of Rage cast in there!
This is actually very good news. Whilst not the return we all wanted, it could lead to more. For years Sega didnt even like talking about Shenmue, for them to put Ryo in a game says alot. Though i think he wouldve been much better as a character in Virtua Fighter 5.
I reckon after this we'll get 1&2 re-releases on PSN and XBLA. Then if they sell well, and Yakuza 3 sells well, we could see Shenmue 3 end of this gen.
Can't remember much of Shenmue 2 but...What do we want? SHENMUE 3, When do we want it? NOW! Oh and don't make it a XBOX exclusive...Multi format or PS3 exclusive is ok...
Huge Shenmue fan and I want Shenmue 3 more than anything. This racer looks like fun and its being made by Sumo who are pretty good. It could turn out to be a right laugh. Been wanting a Mario Kart type game on the 360 for sometime.
I watched the trailer for Ryo on youtube and seeing him jump from a motorbike to a forklift is funny.
looks mental. Could be a decent alternative to Mario Kart. hopefully.
The only problem i could see with them making shen mue 3 is that for a start the story wouldn't end at its conclusion. If it stuck to the original plans anyway becuase they wanted to make 10 of them.
then again its been a long time. What would be better IMO is if they gave the series a reboot and started again on the 360 or PS3 orrrrr rereleased 1&2 over XBLA/PSN and then just made a 3rd.
or they could always just rerelase the first 2 on the wii and make a 3rd one for the wii using a similar engine.
it's amazing. seeing him here is like seeing a long lost friend. i spent so many hours in shenmue and the characters were all so real. sniff. why oh why if so many people want a new one why dont they make one. it would sell millions.
Well, not ALL the characters seemed real... stopping to talk to an old lady about a 'black car' on 'the day it snowed' only to have her turn around and sound like some kind of Gonzo impersonator was quite disturbing. Yet, the Shenmue games were pure awesome.
Good to see Sega acknowledging the fact that Shenmue still exists, and the fact that they've never finished it ("yet to gain his revenge". At least they're not burying their heads in the sand and pretending that number 3 is still to appear. This can only be good news.
If this is just some shameful marketing ploy (and it most likely is) then it just spits on every Shenmue fan everywhere. Talk about rubbing salt in the wound!! *shakes fist at the screen* Damn you Sega, why do you mock us so!!!!!
On the other hand, if it's leading to a possible sequel or even a re-release of 1 and 2 then I will be a very very happy person and take back all of the above. Hell I'd even buy the damn karting game if I knew it would have any influence at all over a new Shenmue. For once Sega, listen to the people that buy your games.
