Yeah - I can't say that it'll be something that I'm looking forward to, or will use....but, I really don't understand the way that any new feature can be scorned on forums.

Same with Facebook and Twitter - zero interest for me, but I'm sure plenty will get some use out of it.

Damn straight. There really are a lot of morons around who curse MS to high heaven for the introduction of new functionality that's either free or optional and it's up to them if they want to use it or not. I really don't understand their problem.

I think it's the same for all of them - Sony, MS or Nintendo.

I remember reading about the addition of horoscopes to the Wii Channels a few weeks back and the uproar that caused....why? - sure, it may not be useful to most of us, but why would you get so annoyed about something you can simply just ignore?

I'm looking forward to this. It's better to have it and not need it, then to want it and not have it. I look forward to watching my beloved Liverpool kick Man U up in the air, from the comfort of my sofa!

I know its rediculous. Like the fuss people made about iplayer on the PS3. It might only be a link, but its a bloody useful one.

Was quite fun watching Gameswipe on my PS3. It was great to see a show on TV about gaming which wasn't damning them.

Depends what i'll need to use sky player on the 360 but its a feature i think will get quite a bit of use in my house.

My only gripe is the fact that MS are advertising something that isn't available yet....Confused

Yeah it is daft. You'd never see advertising for games that's releases are imminent or films that aren't yet out Wink

I hope you don't need a multiroom package as I already pay sky £ 70 a month for tv broadband and phone paying another £10 is taking the pi**

Silver members like myself have the right to complain Razz

No but I have Sky and multiroom subscription already, really couldn't care less about sky on 360, the last box on earth I would rely on for a TV service.
YCshinobi on 5 Oct '09
I wouldn't complain about anything that's free. This isn't free though. I wouldn't complain about a complimentary service for Gold Memberships. This isn't that either though.

At least Facebook, Twitter and Last.FM will be free to Gold members.

You already have to be funding Murdoch's dirty little empire to get any fuctionality out of this. And about the only possible difference is that you can watch Sky in another room.

Only reason I'd be interested in Sky full stop would be if they removed their Fox News, Sun Sez, neo-con, digger-bias and focused on Movies and Football.

If you want to watch the footie "with your mates" hit the bloody pub, don't have a little man dressed in Gears of War armour pumping his fist in the air...

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with that - same reason I've never even considered putting a DVD in there.

Still - I bought it as a games machine and it does that very well, as far as I'm concerned.

But it's still an optional service. If you don't want it, don't pay for it.

I saw the ad. It still looks like you need a sky sub, so it's going to get zero from me unless I can piggy back on my mate's package.

So what if there's no release date. Teaser adverts have been used for years. I was clearing out some stuff and found a copy of Select from 1996 with Dave Grohl on the front cover - it had a advert from the 'Ultra 64'. The name wasn't even confirmed, it wasn't released in the UK for nearly a year later and they were advertising it!
ricflair on 5 Oct '09
While america get netflix which is around $10 or so a month we have to pay our sky subscription at £48 plus £10 for multiroom. thats £58 convert that to dollars lets say thats around $104 dollars a month.

I cut my sky service and got rid of movies and sports because it was getting bumped up in price every few months.

Maybe doing a pay per view for sports would be good i would pay 80 points per match.

This is why I hate Sky. We really need more competition in TV viewing in this country. The US has Netflix and apparently Hulu is supposed to be good too, we need something similar here.

Hulu's good (and you can get it over here if you install Hotspot shield Wink but it's not as good as iPlayer and 4oD which offer full shows for some time after they are screened (4oD is particularly commendable for sticking classic shows up).

I have never liked Sky. It has always had the taint of "benefit household that still has a plasma on the never never" about it...

And their affiliation to the EVIL Fox news channel in the US and the lowest-common denominator Sun newspaper further incriminates them.

Yeah, it's an optional service (built on the proceeds of a million on child support payments) but I disapprove of Sky in general and obviously will not be using it.

As to the Netflix issue, why the hell don't MS do a deal with Lovefilm in the UK (which is basically Netflix in all but name)? Our net connections by and large are faster than a large proportion of the USA and with the current postal strikes on you'd think Lovefilm would be looking at other distribution methods. They have already made some films available on their website, both free and as part of a Lovefilm package (admittedly 90% of these are either s**t or available on 4oD, but I caught Chopper and the Tyson film/doc, both of which were really good).

That's if we can ignore these, because Microsoft have a tendency to force you to have things by intergrating them onto your dashboard whether you want them there or not, the only exception being able to hide the welcome tab. At least with Nintendo if you don't want it, don't download it.

Twitter I'd be happy with and wouldn't mind possibly trying last.fm (not that I bother with it on the internet), but for one I don't want f**king facebook on my dashboard Mad
dark_gamer on 5 Oct '09
Can someone answer me this - do you need multiroom for this? If so, I'm out.

Sky Player is free on the PC so why should this be charged as multiroom. To be fair, I could connect my laptop to my TV directly and use Sky Player that way without paying an extra tenner so why charge for this.

If they aren't then fair play. I won't use it for live TV (got a Sky box for that) but downloads for movies etc. could be good.

Also - I live in a flat with one connection for Sky so I can't get the most from SKy+. Be great if this had the option of recording to the hard disk. It won't but would be nice.

Probably because all three are owned by Murdoch. Sky News is just Fox Lite.

I live in a Grade II listed building that's prohibited from having a satellite dish and has no cable service; although I don't really have a need for Sky, it's nice to now have the option.

Sso you don't have to be a sky subscriber. I can't believe this wasn't made clear from the off.

My interest is raised a little then. I have no interest in anything other than the footy though. What on demand stuff is going to be any good apart from The Simpsons? Crap US imports and Shane Ritchie's Amazingly s**t Karaoke Singalong Show.

LOL. In this respect it's very, very good.

You just wish one day they could have the curtain pulled away and see the intelligent half of the room pointing and laughing at them hysterically... Like that snooker cue Bill O'Riley. And Riley lite - that guy who turns on the waterworks over how much he loves the USA... Sky aren't quite there, they just have Adam Boulton making the PM march out in a strop... Wink

Search youtube for the vid of O'Riley losing it... or the one of O'Riley talking to Richard Dawkins... or the one of O'Riley talking to pretty much anyone from overseas or a minority group... or the one of O'Riley interviewing Adam Boulton! (Yes Mr O'Riley/No Mr O'Riley/Whatever Mr Murdoch tells us to think Mr O'Riley...) A real Fox love in right there...

You don't have to be a Sky subscriber, BUT if you aren't:

"Want to watch TV on Sky Player?
You can take out a monthly Sky Player TV subscription from as little as £15/€18 (with no minimum subscription period) OR you can rent or buy on demand from only £0.98/€1.27 per programme. After you click ‘Register’ below, you'll see more information about what's on offer."

And they sign you up for spam so you probably shouldn't give theman email address you actually use for, y'know, general emails and things...

Might be OK if you want to watch one show before it's out on DVD and can't be bottomd with Sky. Or there's a movie or a match on. Wonder if you can pay via your xbox account instead of additional credit card payments for everything...
Moribundman on 5 Oct '09
Exactly. The news is always written with some bastards agenda at the heart of it so its much more fun to take it with a pinch of salt. Especially where FOX and the Sun are concerned. the joke is that its basically written as the voice of joe america and the average brit, When its really a bunch of guys that make upwards of 20k a year taking the p**s out of the working class. IF thats not terrrible joke i don't know what is.

You mean Glenn Beck? He is mental. He was the one on Gameswipe going on about hiring and murdering prostitutes in GTAIV. He was going on about the healthcare reforms being a way of making reparations for the slave trade. He's a prat.

Watch out for the O'Reilly one where he interviews Jeremy someone. This guy's Dad died in 9/11 and good old Bill is telling him how to his dad would feel about the war on terror, and then goes mental at him when he said his dad would not support it.

If I had loads of money I'd buy the rights to the footy, just to watch Sky crash and burn over here.

Now Setanta's been bought out by ESPN it wouldn't surprise me if somekind of bidding war for the
football ensued soon.

Having just read a bit about Skyplayer, it looks like If you already have a sky subscription but don't want to watch live TV on it it'll be free.

If you want to watch live TV you need to pay for multi room though. Sucks but there you go.

Connect to the USA PSN and you can download TV shows like Lost, 24, Stargate, etc. Movies, even a huge list of anime.
Or if you want to be a bit dodgy go to http://projectfree.tv/ on the PS3 internet browers and watch what ever you like for free

Live TV for Sky customers with a Sky Multiroom or Broadband Unlimited subscription is free or from £15-£41 a month for Non-Sky TV customers. To watch Sky Player on your Xbox 360 you need an Xbox LIVE Gold subscription. Live TV channels depend on your subscription. Price and availability of on-demand content depends on whether you are a Sky TV/Sky Player TV customer and the kind of subscription you have. Some programmes from live Sky TV channels are unavailable to show online

These are the T&CS

It's not much use to me as My 360 is sat next to my Sky+ box(which I struggle to find anything worth recording on these days, other than House and that new Stargate how tomorrow night). Plus I'd rather have the BBC's iplayer anyway.
