Nintendo has been named number one in Business Week's top 40 list of the world's best companies. Yamauchi's master strategy is going as planned...
The platform holder was chosen for its "commitment to innovation, diversified portfolios, aggressive expansion, strong leadership, and a clear vision for the future," the publication says. Those MASSIVE DS sales probably have something to do with it as well.

Nintendo placed directly above Google and Apple in the list - which was compiled by management consulting firm A.T. Kearney - while Sony and Microsoft didn't even make the page.
Business Week says the most popular names on its list are "technology and telecommunications companies that have tapped into continuing demand for mobile-phone service and new digital hardware and services," and heavy industry and engineering outfits.
Anyway most likely due to their impressive business model this generation that's earned them a few bob and also taken an enitre industry into a new direction.
Excluding the Xbox division, there isn't a month that goes by that Microsoft aren't in a court being slapped with a fine for iffy business practices so doesn't suprise me they didn't make it. Again excluding the PlayStation division Sony are struggling in the electronics & technology department and their brand has lost lots of its strength with people. Credit to Nintendo though they have turned round their market share and business and as for innovations well MS & Sony are now bringing out Motion controls so enough said really.
Bit of a surprise really. I thought that Apple would be on top, but I guess the huge runaway success of the Wii and DS proved otherwise. As for Sony and Microsoft, it's perfectly understandable. Sony are srtuggling in most areas other than the PS3 and PSP, with sales of pretty much everything down, and Microsoft are always getting hit with fines and court cases, as Osiris said. I suppose in terms of innovation, Nintendo deserved to win, because they've introduced a whole new way of gaming to the casual public, which is an impressive achievement.
Any company that can convince idiots to pay Ł200 for a re-boxed gamecube with a gimmicky controller does indeed deserve this award. Well done Nintendo.
Full of truth are they, the Wii was never Ł200 its always been Ł179, and its not a reboxed Gamecube anyone who actually knows what they are talking about knows that!
(They've traded every shred of their integrity for a quick buck. Not a business model that you want to be putting on a pedestal.)
And what would you be basing that on, the fact they have got more people into gaming, tried to innovate, tried a different business model that gives them as bigger market share? last time I checked a business is about making money and increasing market share not pleasing saps like yourself...
Like I said in another thread, Xbox owners in particular have a high opinion of their cheap piece of plastic. Great, the Wii has souped up GC specs. At least it f***ing works! And same goes for its accessories.
As for the 360, well, sure its got high specs. But its a machine put together in a retarded manner for people who spout out retarded comments like we see on here. M$ can't even make a dpad properly yet their sucker followers mock motion controls. The wireless headset is s**t too and Live is hardly perfect considering you have to pay for it.
Nintendo maybe got top of the pile since they've actually done something new for games, whereas the other claimed HD which really, is not a step up in innovation or anything and are now playing catch up in more ways than one. Most games are just last gen stuff with nice graphics and hardly "next gen" in any other way. GTA 4 and the GoW games are prime examples of this. Its like no one test those games before they got released...
The Wii Fit sucked away the little respect i had for Nintendo! how low can you get to make a buck!
Again they are in it to make money?? Wii fit has been a great sucess for nintendo and I fail to how its any different to other companies and their products. Guitar Hero & Rock band all come with extras do you hate them too... Ulimately if your looking at companies make a quick buck than you'd have to consider MS & Sony as well. Charging Ł35-40 a year just to play your games online or 200-400 points for themes & avatar clothing now that is taking the p!ss. And as for charging Ł230 the PSPgo now that is out make quick money.
Any company that can convince idiots to pay Ł200 for a re-boxed gamecube with a gimmicky controller does indeed deserve this award. Well done Nintendo.
I'm sorry - But I doubt you've even touched a Wii.
The controls are not 'Gimmicky' - If you want to know what's gimmicky, it's the PS3's motion controls. They are horrible, even my PS3 loving friends refuse to play games using them.
And what opinions you may own on their console - It's not about that. They've had the best sales of this generation, have a widespread worldwide appeal and have done well. There is a reason they're on that list and not Sony or Microsoft.
So before you whine and scream about it over your online games into a small plastic headset I'd recommend you play a Wii first - get some of it's first-party Nintendo titles (As you're whining about Nintendo - Not third party developers.) and actually learn that it's on the scale of your 'Next-Gen' consoles.
