After yesterday's leak-athon, Capcom's officially unveiled Super Street Fighter IV - and as feared it's coming in the form of a full retail game only. Prepare to double-dip.

Due in spring 2010 for Xbox 360 and PS3 and 'not sold at full price', SSFIV is set to include new playable characters, improved online features and rebalanced original fighters, says Capcom.
Roughly eight new playable characters are planned including a brand-new, original female character named Juri and the return of Super Street Fighter II combatant, T. Hawk.
T.Hawk has undergone the same update that the classic characters did in SFIV, reveals Gamespot, with a faithful 3D model, carefully recreated moves and spectacular-looking combos.
Juri meanwhile a Korean fighter - a first for the series - who uses Tae Kwon Do and relies on an extensive array of kicks to come out on top.
SSFIV will also include "comprehensive tuning" of existing fighters, says Capcom, based on the dev team's own experiences as well as feedback from fans.
New ultra combos for returning fighters and reworked online matches - which may include the addition of online lobbies - are also planned, but Super SFIV and original SFIV players won't be able to play each other online.
The choice to position Super' as a disc-only release is due to limitations of the original game's code, says the publisher, which means that simply slotting on DLC wouldn't be possible, it argues.
Thanks for charging us £40 to test your game, Capcom.
Thanks for charging us £40 to test you game Capcom.
You pay £40-45 a year to 'test' FIFA for EA yet you don't complain.
It amazes me how people moan about wanting a new SF for 10 years, then when Capcom finally relent and release a new one and tweak and tune it in the same way they always have (infact in a better way than they used to as we're not paying 50-60 quid for the update this time), and to a greater extent than most yearly sports titles, they still cry like little girls about it.
Considering the original was only £30 its not exactly a bad deal if the other turns up costing even less
It wasn't £30. Most shops charged the full £40 for it.
Anyway, yeah. It would be good if it is around the £25 mark. Most of the hard work was already done with building the engine, so makeing new characters/stages is comparitivly easy.
glad i havnt bought the game yet then. think i will wait for this version
May I recommend getting a 2nd hand copy? In Computer exchange, I think they are about £15-20. Fantastic value and you will have about 6 months until the new one comes out..
Will it be compatible though? That's the big issue. I don't mind not being able to use whatever features come with the "Super" box, but it hardly seems fair to screw over people who picked their copy up early.
don't know where you shop monty_69 but i haven't seen it for more than £30 anywhere.
Anyway. I read on gamespot that it won't be compatible with SFIV as its online companent is getting a big overhaul as well.
It sucks but then again as has already been rightfully said people are willing to pay full price for new sports games every year, with less added to them.

Again, it's not screwing anyone over anymore than any sports title. We're, by the sounds of it, getting more than those updates would give you and for cheaper.
The majority of people moaning seem to be people that don't even regularly still play SFIV too. It's complaining for complaining's sake.
i got mine for £30 in Blockbuster, saw it at the same price in pretty much every other shop i went to as well
No need to get angry monty. Jeez i've said it before and i'll say it again who the hell buys games from HMV unless you've got a student card they're always over priced.
I'm looking forward to being able to play as Deejay again, definately my fav character from SSFII. just hope they power down T Hawk a bit i always remember him being an utter bastard.
I understand where CVG are coming from, my bro paid £40 to give a copy to me on a day one release.
Now just a year later, i'm gonna paying be less to get what should have been released the first time round.
Does take the p**s a little.
I do have to say though, im REALLY excited by this 8 new characters, hopefully yun/yang and guy will make an appearance too.
Whats got me most excited is the "Re-balance" of the game. Vega is my favourite and im very good with him, hopefully nerfing ryu, sagat and the gief will give the weaker characters more of a chance. If they improve the weaker characters too, then im going to KILL EVERYONE with VEGA!!!
Remember, we are talking about Capcom and Streetfighter here. Tell me you didn't see this coming considering how well SFIV did and their track record with SFII?
Am I the only one over the moon about this announcement? More characters, hopefully a few more stages, bloody awesome!! I'm glad its on disc for retail as well because I'm not online for DLC so happy days. Cant wait for this, SFIV was fantastic, this will be even better if thats possible!
Who's getting angry? You took the p**s out of my name first.
oops. Didn't mean to take the p**s. Just read it wrong.
excited about this. so long as we don't end up with Super Street Fighter 2 hyper fighting championship turbo ed by the end of next year. i'll be happy.
Day one purchase for me. Excellent news. I read on another site that it was 10 new characters, not 8. Hopefully a couple of evil unlockables are included in that sum.
This game really does destroy Tekken in my book, and I'm glad SF has been given the spit n polish it so rightfully deserved. Back to stay as number 1 I think, no other fighter comes close. And for a cheaper price. Yes please. It's no different to what Valve have done with L4D2 so why shouldn't they cash in on popular games if it brings money into the industry - EA thrive on those yearly updates after all!
Anyway, hopefully one of the characters is Rolento!
And to add my two pennies worth, yeah they should've included this stuff in the original and blah blah but like everyones said - 1) its capcom and street fighter, if you didn't see it comin you're a mug and 2) Most people pay for yearly updates of footy games, whats the big deal here? Essential purchase for me, definitely.
I think I'll be buying this...I would have prefered DLC but you can't have it all...
They say it's going to be a 'budget' title when it is release so my bet is it's going to be £30 (As their logic will dictate that £55 equates to a full priced item). There's also a rumour that people who have a copy of SF4 will have an additional 'surprise'...Wonder what that could be?!!!
Why show a video of two of the most dullest and overused characters to promote the new game and show none of the new characters? And this should be no more than £20
i wont bother with this tbh. even back in the old days i wanted some kind of sonic and knuckles style cartridge link up for streetfighter. let them churn out 12 chars a year and combine several full games rather than paying full price for the same game with 4 or so new chars and some tweaks
ive just been praying for a huge dlc roster on a sweet (2d) fighter. some1s going to do it eventually capcom need to keep with the times rather than keep to theyre old ways, is the arcade sf4 board upgradable to ssf4??? if so id be intrested to see how big the ram chip file is. i dont agree with the fifa comparisons either, footy fans are used to buying everything every year be it strips or whatever and i think most sports games really milk it, but i think a lot more works going into a fifa update than the sf4 update
in the old days with hand drawn sprites i didnt mind so much, there was a lot of work involved
of course most fighter fans will buy it, and im not flaming as i respect the ideal as a fellow 2d fighter nut
Capcom messes with the consumer, so the consumer should mess with Capcom by potentially robbing them of a new SFIV sale.
A month before SUPER comes out, take your copy of SFIV down to Gamestation, GAME or equivalent. Trade SFIV for another game you were going to buy anyway and get yourself a tenner for it.
There'll be gamers out there who'll be happy to pay £15 or so for a pre-owned version of SFIV - so let them opt to buy yours rather than a new copy.
Don't delete your SFIV save game either. If SUPER looks for a save file to give you a reward for buying SFIV - you're within your rights to claim it!
