A new and improved wireless adapter is on the way for Xbox 360, Microsoft has confirmed.
The new 802.11n device (a newer, faster standard in wireless tech, for those of you who have no idea what those numbers mean) was first spotted in an ad in the Gears of War 2 Game of the Year Edition box.

MS told Joystiq it'll allow 360 owners to "seamlessly connect with their home network with the highest wireless 'N' technology". It also said it offers "another choice to consumers," insinuating that will sit alongside the current adapter rather than replace it.
No word on a (probably extortionate) price or release date though. The current wireless adapter goes for a £59.99 RRP. Good luck with that.
I wouldn't bother with the stupid prices these go for.
Instead, I opted to use the plugs that you can buy (cheaply! £19.99 for 2) from ebay. You just plug one near the wireless router and one near your 360 and just connect each plug via an ethernet cable.

Simples. And it'll save you £39.99!
Can you point me in the direction of what you went for? Of all people the missus' mum wants to plug her 360 up to XBL but isn't anywhere near the router so I've been looking for a cheap wireless solution for her birthday.

Got a link for those? A few of my mates need to go wireless with their xbox's but won't pay the crazy money MS are asking for the official one. These should give them another option
The things mark is referring to is called a Home Plug (at least I think that's what he's referring to). They send the network signal through the electrical wires in your home. I thought they were a bit more than £20 a pair though?
There is a twin plug for £12.49 on there! Cheap as chips - and they work a treat.
EDIT: sorry, I didn't even bother to read the page properly! Door bells!!! I'd have deleted this post out of pure shame, but that is actually pretty funny!
I'll try and find a link that actually directs you to something slightly more useful....
If you scroll down you will see some reasonable prices for 2nd hand ones. Like I said, I paid £19.99 for mine about 9 months ago. The new ones can be quite expensive though.
maybe this means they'll lower the price of the other adapters.
You'd think so but they probably won't. The prices for these adapters stink. I had to purchase one when moving into my new house as I had no other choice. At least I got it for cheaper than M$hite's normal price
Then how am i going to PLay ODST and Forza. oh wait i won't be able to.
On the whole adapter thing. if you go into gamestation and the like you can usually find em 2nd hand at a much reduced price. got mine 2nd hand for £20. Works just fine.
Ebays a good place to go too. if you don't mind waiting a bit you can usually get them from the HK sellers for around £20-£30.
The problem with the PS3 is that the wireless is not N specification (it's only g). The new Microsoft adapter adaopts the latest high speed standard, and so you can get much higher network speeds.
MS gives you the option of upgrading to the higher speed adapter. It's simply not possible with the built in PS3 hardware.
Doesn't bother me as I use ethernet for both consoles, but it does mean that the PS3 is potentially lagging behind in network hardware terms now.

yhe ps3 can use usb adaptor if you really wanted N spec

If you have a laptop you could always connect the Xbox360 in to the laptops ethernet cable slot and share the wireless connection assuming the laptop has a wireless card of some sort.

If there are PS3 drivers available for said USB adapter I suppose you could. You still have the situation though that you have paid for hardware (i.e. the internal g spec adapter) you are not using.
I think someone touched a nerve, there. Do people really care about cars that much?
I used to. In fact I used to own the same car as Mr Grasshopper (I actually drove Imprezas for around 8 years). Got rid of it a couple of years ago though. Too many chavs around here own them now, and the image of the marque has seriously gone downhill. They've become the new Corsa

I just don't get it. I like my cars to be comfortable and quick, but to me they're just a consumable - 3 years and it's time to get a new one.
Adding all these exhausts, chipping, HID kits, whale-tails - what does it actually prove?
The problem is if you are silly enough to buy the wireless adaptor, thats sports "N" tech, your router needs to support it to. Chances are you will need to buy a new router to, roughly £100 + say £59, to improvements are minimal

excuse me, you never had a spec C. its only a 'chav' who couldnt tell the difference. my impreza is leagues ahead of the s**tty down-powered uk specs.
over 90 improvements over a JDM impreza, and over 150 improvements over a uk spec. only 1000 copies available.
I'd rather go ethernet, TBH. I'm happy that my 360 has the ethernet port - I really miss it on the PS3.
I find it funny the way both lots of owners complain about both methods 360 gets no wireless option, 360 owners complain that MS is stiffing them. PS3 gets no ethernet, PS3 owners complain that Sony is stiffing them. Amazing.

PS3 gets no ethernet,
Eh? Is this the new slim's your talking about? Both the PS3's i've had have ethernet ports on them. Its the only way i connect anything other than my laptop (and the Wii when i had it).

In fact, I started with a UK spec turbo, moved to the first of the UK STis, then finally had a Jap import Spec C. As I said, sold it a couple of years ago. Used to regularly take it on track days and the like (mainly Castle Coombe). Was a fully paid up member of the SIDC, and am still a regular contributer on Scoobynet (where they will verify my claims if you would like to ask them).
...and, there is a 19 year old, baseball cap wearing, chav living down the road from me who has a Jap import spec C as well (modified / tuned to almost 400bhp). God knows what his insurance is like (assuming he has any)

the baseball cap, essential of course in that story. (of the fabricated variety)
the insurance would cost more than the car. so therefore: talking balls.
Game had an offer whereby if you bought an xbox game, you could buy the wireless adapter for £25. That's how I got mine but not sure if they're still offering this.

You believe what you want to believe, I couldn't care less. I know it's true, as do the plethora of friends I made through the SIDC and SWPC car clubs while I owned the cars.
Great fun car, and it was "cool" a few years ago, but now they are cheap and the image has suffered. I enjoyed it while it lasted, but wouldn't go back now.
As for the chav image... Just drive through the middle of Swindon. You'll see plenty (Jap imports as well as Uk spec) scoobs being driven by spotty oiks
Back on about cars again SVD? Don't you realise that no one gives a f**k about what you drive or what you think about cars? Try and get over yourself. The only reason you can afford the payments on your car, the insurance and the road tax is that you live with your parents. Try stepping out the front door and welcoming the real world.
Also try and remember that a lot of people think your car is just a waste of money and a pile of metal.
buy a descent car and save yourself some embarrassment
350bhp, 0-60 3.8sec.
your car is the embarrasment. probably hits 60 in 8 seconds if your lucky. pauper.
the trouble is your car isnt the best so why not pipe down, when you can afford a veyron then you can pipe up again but by then hopefully i'll be dead.
I would just like to say to all those people who complained that the ps3 is to expensive(which includes the wireless adaptor and many other extras) but are all here now complaining that the microsoft wireless adaptor is to expensive, if you all went to school and did your maths you would have worked out along time ago you get a much better deal with the ps3 for your money. If you dont wanna buy the adaptor plug a ethernet cable in! omg Stop f**king whinging you bitches!

That's like saying a Swiss Army knife is cheaper than buying a knife, a saw, some scissors, a can-opener, tweezers and a cork screw seperately. But if all I want to do is open my baked beans then it's actually quite expensive.

Lol Altitude2k But im sure your find a hammer and screwdriver will get that can of beans open

Or I could just smash it with my Wii? Finally get some use out of it!

Not really, as wireless G is fast enough to stream full 1080p HD video. In fact Wireless G runs at 54 Mbps which is faster than ANY UK broadband speed. A Wireless N adaptor for the 360 is a waste of time as your internet speed wont even match the full speed of wireless G for years to come. By the time Xbox 720 is out then Wireless N should be used, but right now it is just too early.
Ha ha ha! Moron, the PS3 has a 802.11g wireless adapter which means the wireless speed is and will only ever be 54 mbit\s. The 802.11n technology has a net wireless speed of 600 mbit\s which even someone of a low IQ such as yourself must relise is a hell of alot faster.
Xbox live on 600 mbit\s will be even more awesome, while PSN will always suck (I own both consoles before you rant on bout fanboyism).

And you're getting confused with data transfer speeds. 54Mbps is the maximium throughput but you will never see it. The theoretical max transfer rate is 6.75MB/sec.....
It doesn't matter if you have a 512k or an 8MB internet connection, a 54g router will still transfer data to your console much faster....ie streaming media, therefore a 'draft n' device will do it much quicker.
A 10/100 NIC port on the 360 has a max transfer rate of 12.5 MB/second (and Gigabit LAN has 125MB/second maximum) and doesn't have all the walls, interference, and constantly looking for other wireless signal problems therefore a wired connection has much less degradation.
Basically, a 54g wireless connection doesn't have the capacity to stream full HD and relies on DivX HD or MP4 to compress....even then it's almost maxed out. (that's not even taking the PS3's woeful MP4 performance into account)
Thats all well and good, and i agree but it doesnt hide the fact to get anything out of the new Nwireless adaptor your router has to support N to, and most peoples routers dont, unless they upgrade

But for those people that DO have routers that support it, this would surely be something that would benefit them.
360 just sounds more and more like they released it to early, when I had one, having to buy batteries for the controllers was a chore, or buying Adaptors for charging was just to expensive.
That console was never finished, so unrefined.
At the time it was nice to have HD and had a blast on Gears, but the dudes should have waited and released a good reliable product.
My biggest complaint about 360 is that its denying the PS3 from getting the games the machine is capable of, every game should look as good as Kill Zone 2, but the split dev is dropping multi plat games down to a 360 level.
I am impressed with what the 360 is capable of, but remembering mine, the noise of the fans, the rattle of the cd draw, changing batteries and Ring of Death (but to be honest MS were quick at getting me a new one) seems very last gen.
Come on devs, develop on PS3 then port down, show us what you are capable of....

And having to buy a new controller or send your one in for repair when the rechargeable battery locked into the DS3 runs out of charging ability is a good model?
