Xbox 360 gets Halo bundle too

Elite Xbox, ODST, Halo 3 and Reach beta in a box
Not satisfied with the memory-packed Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360 bundle? Then Microsoft's got something else for you - and it contains all the Halo. Almost.

The Xbox 360 Elite Halo bundle will arrive later this month for €280 (roughly £250) with a 120GB hard drive (no 250GB monster for Halo fans) and copies of Halo 3: ODST, Halo 3 and access to the Halo Reach beta (which comes bundled with ODST anyway).

So far the bundle's only confirmed for Europe, but you can bet your Chewits it'll end up States-side at some point.

State of Panic?

What about when SONY was making bundles for every game comming out for the PS3....

And why would any serious gamer use Wi-Fi?

I mean im not fond on fluctuating speed, packet loss, high pings, interference.

I get a Solid 50 Mb connection to my 360/PS3 100% of the time...

But whats this about SONY not even offereing a standard headset for online play?

I do think it will be interesting to see what, if any, effective response MS comes up with to the new Slim PS3. Personally I think it was a mistake to drop the Pro while increasing the price of the Arcade. Granted, I don't have access to MS's financial records, but I should think that getting rid of the Arcade, dropping the price of the Pro to that of the Arcade along with the price drop of the Elite, might have gone down better with the public.

Perhaps MS are placing their hopes on Natal which they have repeatedly stated will be released with an established catalogue of games? If that doesn't work out for them, I'm hard pressed to see how they can remain competetive tech-wise without introducing new hardware. We shouldn't forget that that games have the ability to shift console units and that the largest profits are usually from the games and not the consoles themselves, so if MS continue to pursue a solid games line-up that too may help alleviate some of the pressure.

Erm, PC gamming is miles ahead with tech.

Can you game at 2560 x 1600 (essientially Double HD) with 8x AA and 8x AF at 60 fps?

Nah, didnt think so....

@3 totally agree. I seriously considered getting an xbox too but when i looked into what i need to add on and i was looking for a HD player the PS3 was by far the better and cheaper option and that was when i paid £350

Hardly seems so whe you talk about Microsoft needing to release new tech to keep up with SONY.

Yet you fail to see multi plat and exclusives always seem to look and run better on the 360...

So yeah, highly educated in gamming tech?

I wonder how many Xbox 360 users dont use a wireless router, a plug and play charger, a subscription to live, a seperate HD player, dont mind the power cable's brick etc etc, I dont really think there're too many.

You could argue that premium users have the advantage in price but how many core or elite users are there who do require these things? This is where the PS3 offers much better value for money.

All these packs do smell of fear though, Halo ODST is technically still an add on and not a prequel or a sequel yet MS seems keen to treat it as Halo 4. Just give us the real Halo 4.

Firstly My Wireless Controller is always jacked into the 360 via the plug and play crage kit so it never runs out of batter nor does my headset.

Why do i need wireless when im sitting down and playing?

Now with the PS3 is the battery dies you have to stop and charge, same for headset.

Since my 50 Mb Modem is directly below my 360 in the living room i just drilled one simple hole, ut down 2 ethernet cables and sealed the holes and then paitned over it when re decorating the house.

This applied for the PS3 too, like i said serious gamers wouldnt use Wi-Fi.

Im happy paying £24 every 13 months for the best online service there is with the best marketplace there is.

Seriously XBL > PSN.

The power brick is hidden behidn the TV cabinet.

And Halo: ODST is a add on?

With full on 4 player campain and a massive online multiplayer????

How about when SONY was charging £25 for a demo?

Thats more than XBL costs right there for a year....

And dont forget ODST comes with a Beta Also...

I don't like MS's charges for HDD and wireless (and yeah, buying a basic 360 seems pointless to me, unless you're sure you dont want online, xbla etc). But I don't get that releasing different bundles (something pretty much every console manufacturer has done) is a sign of desperation - I haven't seen them shouting about this as some PS3 beating bundle. This is MGS's biggest release for a while - there were MGS4, LBP and KZ2 bundles, and I didn't see them as desperate either and Sony have tinkered relentlessly with their SKUs.

Some people do buy games consoles for the games and alot of people prefer the 360s over the PS3. Of course others feel the opposite, and not everybody who has a PS3 needs wireless or has an HDTV - they want GT5, Gow3. Fair enough you're not getting 'everything' from the console, but 360/PS3 games still look good on a CRT - it's not like playing a wii or PS2. Anyway, lots of good games coming up on all consoles in 2009/10

And the only thing I use out of that list is Live. My 360 is wired (or I share my wireless connection on my PC if I use it elsewhere), I've always had rechargable batteries. And I don't care about HD (though I sometimes connect my 360 to my 22" dvi monitor and it does look better, plus its widescreen).

Apparently it does since you continue to demonstrate an avid lack of comprehension of the train of thought my initial post was pursuing. Deal with your own inadequacies before trying address others'. If this is all you have to so-call-"contribute" please don't feel shy about crawling back to the dank, dark hole you have been hiding in. I hear the the seven dwarves miss their bitch.

Incidentally, hardware is not solely responsible for how a game looks nor runs. Or are those rudimentary concepts inconvenient for you to remember? Furthermore, while you are going on about advanced tech, etc. you then suddenly turn around and defend the same old tech you were just badmouthing a post or two earlier? Make up your mind already, little man. Which is it going to be?

Be interesting to see how well this is recieved- most gamers who enjoy Halo would've picked up a console already for Halo 3. Ah well, as long as ODST's as fun to play as the previous games I'll be a happy chappy- got my copy on pre-order anyway.

Now while im obviously not a serious gamer because i use a wifi adapter on my xbox, oh no Rolling Eyes, i can see one minor flaw with this bundle in that surely majority of the people who where going to buy odst already have a 360 because of halo 3 and wars.

Also having worked in game for 2 years i can say with confidence that sony have had more hardware bundles than ms. Hell they did a terminator 3 blu-ray/salvation game bundle and there where loads with a blu-ray film or two with the blu-ray remote.

I feel sorry for anyone spanking loads of cash on a decent PC these days, how many games are worth it? 90% of games are multiplatform so all you get are diminishing returns. What was the last game that justified the investment - I can only think of crysis and that was 2 years ago. This is coming from someone who's spent hundreds if not thousands on GFX cards and CPUs over the years

i prefer playing certain types of games on my PC so its really personal preference rather than getting the best value. its the same with cars, you cant say Ferrari's are the best value and most people wont have one, but you cant say they aren't good cars.

i havent upgraded my pc for 2 years now and its still going strong, i think this is because the pc market is limited by what is being produced on consoles, not many devs are targeting high end pc features. if i upgrade now i might get a new gfx card for £100 of so and that should be fine.

i feel sorry for people that cant consider other peoples point of view.

Having been a PC biggot for many years and also having forked out thousands on hardware, I wholeheartedly concur. I would never invest in a gaming machine anymore, I just can't see the value.

Agreed. Besides, I use my gaming PC for more than just games. Yes, a gaming PC will cost more than a console, although if you start to include added gamepads and LCD HD-TVs vs. the PC with a decent monitor, then it may not be as lobsidedas some seem to think. The often substantially cheaper PC games also help offeset overall costs. It wouldn't surprise me if the costs of having a decent gaming PC (read: no tripple SLI configuration needed) vs. one of the consoles over a five year period were quite close - it might even favour the PC presuming no major upgrades are carried out. My personal experience has been that a high-end PC upon its release, can probably play games for ca. 5 years or so, before it can no longer keep up even with the lowest settings on the latest AAA titles.

Apropos upgrading, if you are considering buying a new GPU card I recommend waiting for ATI's new 5800 series to launch in the next few months; if you can wait a bit longer then I would expect the price wars to start once Nvidiea launches its G300 line of GPUs late this year or early next year. Just remember to check if your motherboard and PSU can handle the new hardware. Smile

……………

My wireless joypad isn't jacked into anything and plays fine for hours on end; benefits include not having a dumb friend trip over the wire when I'm sitting down playing. Same goes for the headset.

I don't have to drill, paint or decorate (or dear, even more costs!!).

Serious gamers have the option to do either wired or wireless on PS3, they aren’t limited like Xbox 360 users. In fact, this is hardly a benefit over PS3 lol

Apart from rental only movie downloads and voice get togethers, I don’t see any further reason to suggest that Live is any better than PSN. On the contray, PSN is a much better service. Inclusive online browser for BBC iPlayer and Youtube on your 50 inch telly (no more crowding round monitors), games like Resistance 2 60+ players lag free, Vidzone, Home, Life etc etc and best of all, its all FREE!

Not having a power brick sweating behind your TV is much better.

Halo: ODST - Since release, all we know is that its an add on, it may be beefier than the norm but theres really a little too much marketing for what isn't really and official new IP or a full on sequel to a franchise. As for Sony's demo, I assume you refer to GT Prologue, it's not a £40 demo if that’s what your referring to. Adding a Beta to Halo: ODST doesn’t justify the full price tag.

As I stated, PSN is free.
