Sony teases mystery game reveal

Surprise coming on September 17, says teaser site
Sony is teasing a new mystery project with one of those infuriating nothing-makes-sense teaser sites.

It's black, has the date in the centre, and a pixelated face in the lower right corner which, when clicked multiple times, forms a smile before screaming and redirecting your browser to one of a specific selection of websites.

They're all in Japanese and don't seem to give any obvious clues, but we'll let you go all Sherlock on them if you have nothing else to do today.

One thing to note, though, is that the URL titles it '3D', and the smiley face is a sideways '3' with a 'D' for a mouth. Looks like all will be revealed on September 17 - Tokyo Game Show, we expect.

The teaser site's here.

I might actually be excited if I didn't have to buy a 3D enabled telly first!

It's probably GT5 in 3D. Considering you can now use the eyetoy for head-tracking, it makes a lot of sense.

Ah well, we'll see soon enough, but any 3D related news gets the big thumbs down from me....

I doubt they'll have GT5 in 3D, since the graphics card won't be able to render each scene twice per frame of animation.

Let's be honest, if they're pimping the 3D thing it's probably something casual. Something that has you using the Eyetoy to reach for things in a 3D space rather than just on a 2D plane.

They already demoed WipEout HD in 3D, matey. That was in 1080p too.

Black magic, if you ask me...

The resolution isn't important, it's all about polycounts and shaders. And they'll get away with less polys and shaders in Wipeout than they would in GT5 Smile

3D Dot Games Heroes?

Maybe, but WipEout HD isn't actually casual, is it? Smile
Mark240473 on 10 Sep '09
Well okay I'll give you that one Smile

WipeOut is a strange game. I really like it when I'm playing it (and the HD demo was the last one I played) but I have never really spent much time getting good at it. I wonder why that is...

Maybe its D 3. Would make sense considering the last game in the series came out for the dreamcast.
WHERESMYMONKEY on 10 Sep '09
perhaps its D3 in 3D.... Cool
davidc on 10 Sep '09
I'd prefer to see a pair of DD's in 3D Wink

It links to a Japanese wikipedia page if you click it enough times that translates to 'brave'. Later down it says something about Dragon Quest. Maybe a 3D PS3 Dragon Quest?
lordirongut on 10 Sep '09
no i think the wiki page is a gag
ive clicked on it a few times and gotton all sorts of pages from mythology to fish paste
This is clearly to throw us off the scent
Maybe all the 3Ds in the picture are too Surprised
Sorry to bust your bubble lordirongut Laughing

Though I wish they had more obvious mystery teasers (i'm too lazy/ thick to bother working long winded things out) I do like the way games (and some movies) are starting to break from the norm, I think anything abstract and unusual should be encoraged (even if it is penguins in leapord print stilletos trying to smuggle booze out of an asda self service checkout).

Hmmmm, which famous game of the past had 3D in it's title and which (almost) game of recent times made people both laugh and scream at the same time...

Duke Nukem anyone?!
The_Louce on 11 Sep '09
Last week i posted a link to a story about Sony having a major exclusive that was a remake or sequel to an established series that has yet to appear this gen (on consoles).

Maybe this is it?
