Sony "looking into" PS3 firmware 3.0 fix

Sony working to respond to "isolated issues" after latest system update
Sony is working on an update to fix "isolated issues" with the latest PS3 firmware, version 3.0, which went live last week.

Problems with accessing trophies, logging on to the PSN and other issues have arisen for a number of users since the major update, which gave the XBM a little sprucing up (full details here).

"SCEA is aware of reports that PS3 owners are experiencing isolated issues with their PS3 system since installing the most recent system software update (v3.00)," it said.

"Rest assured that we are looking into the matter and will provide an update here as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience, as it's our mission to deliver the best consumer experience on all PlayStation platforms."

My old skool 60-giger working fine!
Rob S London on 7 Sep '09
Nothing to report here.

I've heard about a problem with the pads not working after the update, but I can't understand why it would not affect all users? Confused

I reckon it's a poltergeist. Laughing

No problems here either.

I don't like the new friends list or the PS Store shortcut in Games, not a huge fan of the new larger font, and I'm still not sure about the sparkles. Plus the new status bar thing is too big for the small amount of info it holds.

No technical issues though.
falloutwarchief on 7 Sep '09
Mines has been fine since the update but i have heard that some people have had trouble with some games crashing after the update. Uncharted 1 seems to be the main culprit, haven't tried mines yet though.
ensabahnur on 7 Sep '09
Uncharted has been crashing for me, Sony should not be releasing firmware that breaks things, cant surely be that hard to test it before releasing it.
DAEDALUS79 on 7 Sep '09
Haven't tried uncharted yet but i've had no Issues with my pads not working.

Don't like the bigger font size though. I thought it'd reset the machine to a lower resolution.
WHERESMYMONKEY on 7 Sep '09
Online play has been hell since the firmware update for me. Loses connection with PSN all the time. Plus startup of games is slower now. No playstation3 or ps3 logo when starting a game. Just black screen for 15 to 30 secs before anything happens. No trophy problems though.
gnokgnik on 7 Sep '09
i've got no BBC iplayer. the thing i was looking forward to the most out of this update
Slacher007 on 7 Sep '09
Maybe that explains why I keep on getting disconnected from PSN. Mad

Last night my pad wouldn’t work either when connected via usb, until I put a pin on the pad reset button.
DaRockwilder1 on 7 Sep '09
I haven't had any problems myself, but it's good to hear that they are listening to people who are.

Hopefully the next update will give me an option to return my friends list to it's original look as well...

In xmb under trophy collection icon there's another pointless ps store icon. I'm sure it's a bug, it doesn't give direct acces to store anyway, it's mixed with What's New.

Mines fine 2! Very Happy

Slacher007 - Reply to your post.

I have two PS3's one 60gb (pal - uk) and the other a 80gb (US import). The uk model has the TV shown as part of the menu bar with BBC iplayer showing however my US PS3 has no such symbol. I would get too disappointed though because all the button does is open your browser and re-direct you to the BBC's weblink for the iplayer. Just goe to your browser and bookmark the page it gives you the same result.

I thought that was pretty pointless myself, the whats new section should have been enough, now its confusing cause the trophy section is now 1 more button push up. Don't know how many times i loaded up Home (should i just delete this cause i never use it?)by mistake when they put that in the old PSN store position and i can see this doing the same.
ensabahnur on 7 Sep '09
the only technical issues iv had is all the games i play are dark so i have to put the brightness to max
bigste26 on 7 Sep '09
I was also confused by the larger font. Not so keen. An option to choose the size can't be difficult to implement.

With the likes of Uncharted 2 crashing, I see now why Nintendo keep the old updates on the system for older games -- it surely avoids these confilcting issues.
AJDarkstar on 7 Sep '09
I was perplexed by the font size but use to it now.

I have had problems with SBK 09 trophies not being awared untill i load the game back up the next time I play it, but that was happening before the firmware update.
James_Bond on 7 Sep '09
just change those faggish sparkles (prob can be changed but why the change anyways?)
Sleepaphobic on 7 Sep '09

You wouldn't happen to have a replacement PS3 from Sony would you?

Some people on another forum I use have been given EU versions rather than UK versions as a replacement, and they don't have the iplayer tab either.

Something to do with the serial number, 03 = you have it, 04 = you don't.
milky_joe on 7 Sep '09
Mine takes alot longer to load some games farcry2 and re5 for example and sometimes not at all since the update, grr.

You should thank the update for that.
voodoo341 on 7 Sep '09
I was pretty excited buying a slim PS3 last week, along with one of the reasons for getting one: Uncharted. Put it in, started playing, only for it to crash after the opening titles. Tried again, and the same thing happened. Just my luck that the one game I was really looking forward to is the only one that doesn't work!

Sort it out!
MysticR on 7 Sep '09
I havn't downloaded the update yet due to the problems others are experienceing. Lets hope they fix the Bc issues that cropped up a few updates ago with some old core design ps1 games(although somehow I doubt it)that were working and now don't.
sonic_uk on 7 Sep '09
Very Happy

No problems to report here!

I, like most, are not overly keen on the font size or the THREE different was to get the PSN store (or the new 'chavvy' PS3 logo lol!) but I managed to upgrade to a 320gb HD (39.99 from Play people!) with no problems and it gave me an excuse to play Uncharted all over again (and its still ace btw!) and working like a dream! Guess its a select few...

but only on lbp , tbh tho it wasnt the best online b4 the update. and ive got decent isp etc,
sfk1973 on 8 Sep '09
This is why Microsoft do beta testing on all big updates.
Also I wish you could turn them stupid sparkly bits of in the background
pp82 on 8 Sep '09
My only real problem is occasional freezing of the PS3, but with the next update this should be fixed. There are a few other niggles, like opening and sending messages, which sometimes freezes and you have to either quit the game or turn off the PS3. Annoying when in a chat room whilst playing online. Not a lot else wrong apart from those issues.

And just change the background to something else if you don't like the sparkles. I have a MGS4 background so doesn't bother me.
The Bossman on 8 Sep '09
If you want to get rid of sparkels just use the classic theme any1 had real slow sytem
