Sega unveiling motion games in "early 2010"

"We know what we want to do" Sega says of Natal/PS3 motion
Sega has become among the first publishers to openly commit to developing Natal and PS3 motion games, albeit in a less than official statement.

Sega West president Mike Hayes blabbed that the company will likely be unveiling its new waggle games at the beginning of next year.

"We'd like to think that in early 2010 we'll be making announcements about both of those platforms," he told IndustryGamers.

But by the sound of it, Sega's mini-games... erm, we mean motion games, are still in the testing phase: "We have our ideas and we know what we want to do, but the technology is pretty new, particularly with Natal, so we've got to get to grips with the technology and see if it can do what we want it [to] do," Hayes added, concluding: "I kind of think of it as the land of bunsen burners and test tubes."

Yesterday Take-Two confirmed that it's "embedded" Natal and PS3 motion dev kits in almost all of its studios.

Master Chief and Sonic at the Olympic games? Razz
YCshinobi on 4 Sep '09
After watching that video, it concerns me that after all the dust that settles post the Natal excitement, it doesn't look like it will offer anything relativity new outside what has already been shown on EyeToy.

Hypothetically, say a top rate FPS such as Alien Vs Predator, I can see how Sony's controls can be incorporated (bringing motion controls to true next-gen first) but I can't see how Natal's design will work, hopefully though Sega will surprise us with the ideas they have lined up.

Don't scare the poor fanboys. They'll be raving about how awesome the new motion controller for the PS3 is soon enough!. Remember not to remind them about the rubbish they generally have been babbling about the wii. Thier tiny little minds might expolde.

Master Chief vs Solid Snake Olympics anyone?
Rob S London on 4 Sep '09
My opinion of both motion controllers will be determined by how well they are incorporated into games. I trust Sega not to let me down, they are a great company that just need to shake away the proverbial ball & chain that is the Sonic franchise. That is what drags the company's reputation down, they produce some great stuff like Madworld and Valkyria Chronicles.

Anybody remember how crap the eyetoy game by sega was ? Thats got Natal written all over it !! (lol at 360 again) Razz

Trolling again WHERESMYMONKEY?

Grow up mate. Go sit next to grasshopper in the corner.

TROLL SMASH!!!.EAT DEWIN! DEWIN LESSER TROLL!!!

I can't wait for both motion controllers to tell you the truth. I just think its going to be interesting seeing peoples attitudes change overnight is all.

Hope Sega release something on a par with MAdworld or Overkill for them.

A PS3/360 port of House of The Dead 4 would be awesome. or a pointer controlled Valkriya chronicles.

It'd be awesome if EA patched in support for command and conquer 3/ red alert 3. for either controller as well.

If the Natal version of Sonic Adventure Land (or whatever the hell it will be) involves me actually running really really quickly for about 90% of the game then bloody well count me out lol

I'll stick to analogue sticks lol

Microsoft said that they're going to target the homes without any consoles with Natal. You know, those people who consider the normal pad controller too difficult to use. That's what they've said.

So the games for Natal aren't going to be Halo or any violent FPS's. Natal games are going to be solely for family fun and entertainment. Like the videos have shown, simple ball games and virtual boys to play with. Maybe a driving game thrown into the mix. Anything more complex or violent wouldn't be for their Natal target audience.

If some big-name FPS games are going to use Natal, it's just as a gimmick. Throw a grenade with your hand, dodge with your upper body. Gimmicks, that you could just as easily do with your pad analogue sticks.
Like the PS3 "sixaxis" is today. Hardly used gimmick in games, that could be done simply with the analogue stick.

So no, I'm not waiting for Natal with breathless anticipation.

Whilst MS have said that, remember they've sent the kits out to the majority of 3rd party developers. So you will see genres beyond the initial batch of simple party games, I for one would expect RTS games to incorporate Natal and the PS3 wands easily.

I am glad sega are on board with the ps3 motion controllers. I had fun with the wii controllers on some of my brothers wii games and I agree they arent neccesarily best suited for FPS's but I think its about time to put FPS games to bed for a while as thats all thats out.

The motion controllers I think are probably best suited towards an oblivion style rpg i.e a sword or bow and arrow and I used to own a sega megadrive in the past and what I know is they are well known for producing great RPG games if you think back to the days of shining force, shining force 2.

Please sega let your first motion controller games be rpg's.

Doubt they'd have an RPG ready for early 2010, more like early 2011!

With Wii motionplus, theres really little difference between Sony's new motion controller and the Wii remote now.
YCshinobi on 4 Sep '09
Not entirely true, YCShinobi. With the PS3 there will what is like two Wiimotes with M+. With the Wiimote and nunchuk you have one highly accurate god remote and one very basic one. It still doesn't change the criteria for me buying it, though, the Wii has lots of M+ enabled games to look forward to (The next Zelda being a prime example), whereas Sony or MS haven't announced a single game for either peripheral.

After just viewing the No More Heroes 2 trailer, i wouldn't at all be surprised if there is a (HD)port/sequel/spin-off for the PS3 and it's Playstation Motion Controller at some stage, although i can't see how it will work on Natal....

Suda 51, please make it happen, i'm already looking forward to the 2nd one Smile
