PES 07 three times better on PS3 says "Konami insider"

The PS3 version to be noticeably superior to the 360 offering, rumours suggest
A supposed Konami insider has posted claims on a Korean games forum that the upcoming Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 will be noticeably better on PS3 than on 360.

The post, which appeared on Ruliweb (and translated here), claims that the PS3 version of everybody's favourite footy sim will receive huge enhancements afforded by the large capacity of the Blu-Ray format.

The game is said to use 18GB of space on the disc (Xbox 360's dual-layer DVDs offer 7GBs of usable storage space).

The post also claims that the PS3 version's 60fps frame-rate will better that of the 360.

We remain sceptical that the difference, if there is any, will be noticeable. Time will tell.

Think I'll just buy the version with the most consistently lag-free online play.

It would want to be i love pro-evo but the 07 version was utter crap terrible, bought fifa after and 10 times better and thats saying alot.

Fifa have a new game engine alot beaufiful to play and watch next fifa will be king if they tweak it.

Konami threw out that crap on the 360 not ms, if ea could do they could and now they think there great because they made a good ps3 version, sad sad reflection on Konami as a company and will make me think twice before picking up any more of their products.
davelk on 14 May '07
assuming that this is all true (and it may well not be) it is the first sign that the ps3 will start to pull away from 360 in what it can present to gamers in terms of extra content and visuals. at the moment the 2 machines are neck and neck but i expect that over the next few years the 360 will peak and the ps3 will improve noticably up until its no doubt protracted life cycle. sales on the other hand is another matter.
starvinbull on 14 May '07
I see no reason why Pro Evo would need all the memory, it's not littered with FMV's and it's also not exactly a memory intensive game.

Last years 360 version was utter garbage though, so I'll be waiting for a demo before I even consider buying this years.
monkey_puncher on 14 May '07
Theres absoultly no way they cud double the game size. Even if they individually modelled every single spectator it wudnt add up since the bulk of the code goes to physics and gameplay calculations. Graphics is more hardware intensive than code heavy. At most it cud b 3gigs bigger. AT MOST.

However if konami have a thing against 360 &dont care what comes out for it (ie 360's current pro evo) then i can see PS3's bein better
spottyelephant on 14 May '07
The PS3 version could feasibly be better than the 360 one if Konami lead-developed on Sony's platform but I can't see it being THREE times better, that is a ludicrous suggestion for what is a multiformat game.

And how on earth is a mere football game, a unlicensed one at that, going to manage to use 18 GB of disc space? Is it uncompressed or something, is it jammed full of 1080p FMV and with 6 million worldwide language files on there too? Laughing

This doesn't really make any sense. Code itself is relatively very small in terms of disk space requirement. It's the art assets that take up the majority of space. Trust me, if you went and modelled every single spectator uniquely, at a high level of detail/resolution, it could very quickly add up to a huge amount of data Wink Of course, they're not doing that. But if they have a large a mount of unique art assets (be it due to players, stadiums etc.) that's of a high quality, it could quickly add up compared to a lot of other types of game.

The only way to make a good guesstimate would be to look at how much space these games take up on PS2/Xbox, and extrapolate from that based on expected asset improvement.

What a surprise, a Japanese company saying that the game runs better on a Japanese console.

Pro-Evo 6 was rushed and had shoddy graphics, probably because they knew that very few people in Japan would play it due to the hatred towards American consoles.
PsychoMania on 14 May '07
I suppose we should view the possibly of the game using 18 GBs as a sign that it's going to be a massive improvement over the generally-considered-to-be-disappointing 360 version of Pro Evo 6. I'm very interested to see what this new game looks and plays like, sounds like it's the true next-gen version of Pro Evo as opposed to the lazy port we 360 owners got last year.
Doctor_Hades on 14 May '07
I find the reactions to this post very telling. I think it is fine to recognise facts and also to favour a particular machine it is only natural to have personal preference... but to get so defensive over a rumour shows a blinkered 'football team' like mentality towards ones support for hardware companies is just ridiculous.
There should be no reason why the two consoles have such a vast technical difference and it would surprise me that the potential of the bluray format would be emphasised for the first time in a football simulation.
Seabass has already stated they will be leading on PC as opposed to last generation where they lead on PS2.

Also in regards to Japans 'hatred'.
It has been repeatedly stated that the Xbox consoles have been poorly marketed towards a Japanese audience.
Gamers and cultures have different preferences.
I don't think it is simply a case of nationalistic pride or indeed xenophobia.
I am sure if any console tried to found it's approach on genres that are favoured in Japan in a European or US launch I think you would find the reaction to be fairly similar.
sammythy on 14 May '07
I'll believe it when i see it. The only possible benefit i can think of Blu-Ray offering is more capacity for audio, aka commentary. Now we all know how bad that is on Pro Evo so...lol
Personally i think these claims are just aimed at winning back the Sony fanboys. They were p**sed at Pro Evo 6 being exclusive to 360 so i guess this is a way to win them back.
I think the main thing is that Pro Evo 6 was a fairly poor game. Fifa 07 wasn't far behind it. Now im a true Pro Evo fan so i wouldn't say that lightly. All i can do is pray that Konami gets their act together and offer some real improvements. I don't mean the GB size of the game i mean the quality of the game.
vulcanraven01 on 14 May '07
Yeah it should be better...but that has nothing to do with the consoles though, its Konami's half assed port to the 360 that should easily be bettered the lazy sods..
jaycee900 on 14 May '07
pro ev0 6, on 360 (lazy port of ps2 version)

my prediction

pro evo 7, on ps3 (lazy port of 360 version)

Konami have been doing lazy ports for years never taking advantage of the more powerful console. Opting to go with the one with the bigger user base.

Question SINCE WHEN WAS PRO EVO 6 EXCLUSIVE TO XBOX? EXCLUSIVLEY CUT MAYBE BUT THE FULL VERSION CAME OUT ON PS2. AND FOR THE GUY WHOSE RAVING ABOUT FIFA, GO AND SHOOT YOURSELF AND STOP CONTAMINATING THE GENE POOL WITH IDIOTS. A SURE FIRE WINNER FOR A DARWIN AWARD!

Ouch! My ears! Rolling Eyes Low case characters will do, thank you...

I think it is a bit much, 3 times bigger than the 360 version. It is true that Seabass told they make the game on PC and port it to the 360. I am not sure if that was only last year or also for PES 7. Doesn't make a difference, because you can program it on PC for a console using some kind of cross-compiler. So you can code the next-gen code on PC and use it for PS 3 and 360. I hope it is true, but that is a bit egoistic from me as I own a PS 3 and 360 Wink
It would be a sign that they make it real next gen this time Smile

It was exclusive to the 360 (next-gen versions). Yes features were missing, people were angry. I believe it was down to the fact it was only available on one console, a console they didn't think had the ability to shift enough copies to warrent a 100% effort game. Hopefully, now that the console war is well under way, Konami will treat each console will equal respect. My gut instincts however tell me they will design it for PC, use XNA to port it to 360 and make a half bottomd bug ridden version for the PS3, like every other multi-format game...

Personally, without installing, I've never really noticed a considerable difference over my 360, if there is a difference it's a matter of seconds. If you use the install option it's quite good.
The load times are just another pointless bit of ammo the fanboy armies use.

I think you'll find it's football.
theideal on 14 May '07
I think you'll find, despite the fact you and I know it as football, the so called 'geniuses' at Konami insist on referring to it as soccer, PES does stand for Pro Evolution Soccer. and FIFA has always been soccer.

It does bring up an important point - I think everyone should boycott the game until it becomes Pro Evolution Football.
chris_gower on 14 May '07
i dont know why everyone was up in arms about PES6 on the 360, fair enough, it does seem strange that the options were so severley cut, but the actual game is still fantastic, even if the PS2 version is better.

load times on the PS3 games ive played seem to be the standard sort of length to be honest..no shorter no longer..

as for this article, i doubt the PS3 version will be anywhere near 3 times better. I do think it will be a decent step up from the 360 version but again the gameplay will still be just as good on that too. It will probably be just more options, and maybe a slight graphical improvment.
ArchFlameTera on 14 May '07

SOCCER? go back to america

I can see the ps3 version being better but online wise will suck --- tbh i dont play games online -- i only played pro evo online against a friend but that was it apart from getting the gamerpoints i found it tiresome

Means your a fan boy so no matter how crap pro evo gets you will buy it, where ill play both and decide then.
Fifa o7 wasnt behind it, it was light years ahead of it, animations, licence, detail, controlls, realism, difficulty everything was better, bar one thing the replay cam was far better in pro evo. Personally i dont really like EA, i try and avoid their games.
I know ppl who got pro evo for the ps2 and changed it for fifa.
Plain and simple they knew fan boys would buy it so they rushed it, where as fifa had to improve from the year before.
davelk on 14 May '07
well, i havent played fifa 07. but ive played almost every other one up to and including fifa 06.

and while 06 and 05 were actually playable, they were no where near as good as pro evo 5...in every way!

I think, you can argue about the license or the overall graphics being better at FIFA, but if you say that realism and controlls are better at FIFA then I start to doubt if you are serious about this subject. Everybody would argue with you about it.
I myself think that even the animations of PES are better than FIFA. Feel free to play FIFA if you don't find realistic gameplay the most important thing, but be objective in you judgement of both games.
Have fun Smile

I can't see it being THREE times better, that is a ludicrous suggestion for what is a multiformat game.

I seem to recall ,when Nividia released information about their latest (seemingly weekly updated)graphx card, Kotaku reported it as being 15 or so times better than their previous card, when it should have read,15% better.

18 Gig for a footie game? pah! Everyone knows the best footie game only needs 1mb.....SENSIBLE SOCCER!!! Very Happy
Rollingthunder on 14 May '07
Well the problems with the 360 version are nothing to do with storage, I still can't play mine online since the recent update as it just crashes out, many others are also having the same problem (strange cvg have not reported the problems though as they are quite widespread).

Also if they managed to miss out training modes etc through lazy development not lack of storage!

I think Konami should concentrate on getting the basics right again and get PES' reputation back on track before they start filling up blueray discs!!
leefear1 on 14 May '07
First of all it's football not fu*king soccer.

PES6 on XBOX360 was rubbish and for those that doubt a footy game can take up so much space try and explain the almost chronic slowdown in PES6 on 360. It's not all down to lazy coding.

PES6 on PS2 is a very good game but is different to PS2 PES5 in that it plays more like 'real' football :

1. You can't dribble as much in PES6, and can't hold the ball as easily.
2. You get less fouls in PES6 but MORE cards if you get what I mean.
3. You can score more long shots in PES6, some quite ridiculous ones at that.
4. Corners are slightly more effective in 6.

Whether these main differences actually make 5 or 6 better remains to be seen. I'm still deciding you parasites
warpedAi on 14 May '07

Heh. Seriously what are the load times like on PS3, anyone?

Loading times in Motorstorm is dreadful. VF5 loading isn’t too bad though.

Motorstorm is really wierd in terms of loading times... I'll explain why:

During the vehicle selection loading times can be more than the actual loading time it takes to load the track and vehicles for the race.

Example:

- Your in a lobby, and you are about to go to the vehicle select screen... the first vehicle takes a long time to load and every vehicle there after takes a while as well (though shorter).

- Once you have selected the vehicle the game start to load the race (track and all the vehicles) this takes maybe a few more second than loading the first vehicle in the "vehicle select screen".

I have never really understood why this is really?

But overall PS3 loading times are really good, what with devs being able to make use of the HDD and all.
