Microsoft's Xbox 360 recorded a 43 percent week-on-week sales increase in the UK during the week ended Saturday, August 29, GfK Chart-Track has told Edge.
The rise in weekly sales is largely attributable to the £30 Xbox 360 Elite price cut introduced by Microsoft on August 28, which was timed to coincide with the beginning of a bank holiday weekend.
Microsoft's price cut came into effect four days ahead of the release of Sony's PS3 Slim, which launched today at the new PS3 price point of £249.99.
In addition to cutting the price of the Elite 360, Microsoft also raised the cost of the Xbox 360 Arcade by £30 to £159.99 and announced plans to phase out the Pro model.
Sales are up? Consumers obviously didnt realise that 'Scene It' was going multi platform
I expect good numbers for both Sony and MS due to their price cuts in the lead up to Xmas.
That just leaves dear old Nintendo out there with still no price cut, funny thing is, it will still probably outsell the other 2!? Nintendo Execs and Board members must literally bathe themsleves in crisp new notes (I would !).
Sales spikes are pretty common when folk have been waiting for a price drop. The same thing will no doubt happen for the PS3 Slim this week. I'd imagine it being more than 43% though.
An impressive surge, however it is only for one week so far and while that's better than no surge in sales, it's hardly definitive. I smell flame bait material.

This news has stunned the rabid 360 fanboys so much, they can't even comment on it!

I could see another spike happening at the end of the month when ODSTs released. Then again most of the guys that would of bought a 360 for Halo would of done when 3 was released. I know i did.
The wii is going to sell like the clappers this christmas. Mario bros and a new wii fit. the general public i'll eat that up.

Could you imagine the paper cuts?
You're on your own there, laddie....
Ahh but Mark remember, the Board members are earning that much money that all their paper cuts will be dressed and treated by nubile young concubines . That would be a price worth paying (in my depraved eyes anyway ).

I agree. Sony and MS are fighting a losing battle if they are expecting to overtake Nintendo this gen.
Mind you, MS are confident that they are going to 'win', so who knows?*
*Ooooh, '360 Fit', anyone? You know it's going to happen. It's just a matter of when.
Prepare for more excruciatingly fake family adverts...
Microsoft have definitely got the pricing policy spot on with the 360 apart from the price of the bloody Digital downloads which hopefully are currently poor so a price drop will be in the pipeline soon!
its like game ads have come full circle. You used to see little timmy PLaying away on his NES dad chortling away as he stres in wonder at the 8bit graphics.
then during the 90s they got all XTREME remember the Megadrive ad with the guy in the barbers chair getting a robotic arm so he could play better.
Then the notoriously spacy playstation ads.
The awesome xbox ads that were mostly banned.
and finally back to little timmy and his father playing on the wii marveling at the motion control.
see Mark this is a typcial cynical xboxfan cyncial about family adverts, there are families and friends out there that play there consoles, its justs its mainly Nintendo (because they have more quality mulitplayers for all people).i personally as ninty fan, never had problem with msoft/xbox,coz they didn't do a Sony and try and wipe us out take the casual market but o for Pokemon and DS.so i'm glad the sales have risen if only to anger sony fans ha ha

I entered into this grammatical nightmare world with great trepidation. Sweat trickled down my brow as I noticed commas masquerading as full stops.
Capital letters were all but extinct in this parallel universe......
I had to stop - I could go on no longer. Nothing made sense any more......
Worldwide, MS has sold 31.53 million consoles and Sony has sold 23.32 million consoles. Ps3 has been out since 2006, 360 since 2005, I'd say they're doing extremely well, better than nintendo last gen. In other words, wii has been one of few major successes by nintendo. But what with the ps3 slim at an extremely reasonable price and the 360 price cut, console sales for these two companies are probably going to skyrocket. And since there have been repoirts of the slim selling out in the US, I'm gonna say Sony are hardly out of the game yet.

sales of all 3 consoles are such that they are guaranteed to be around for the rest of this generation and into the next so its only bragging rights now.
sales only really matter to us in the early days as thats when machines are likely to be canned or companies go under. hopefully all 3 will sell well and force the manufacturers to work on pricing and continue to add value to the products, then we as consumers win!
Could this not be down to people buying replacements for their original consoles which RROD'ed and are now out of warranty?
I'm pretty sure the 3 year extended warranty should be expiring around now.
Example, I am more of Playstation man and have not owned a console in almost a year. I can, however, attest that I had the foolish missight to buy not one but two of these cumbersome beasts.
I'm sure that some folks less incisive than myself may have had the misfortune of purchasing several....
Really, tell everyone how many PS3's and 360's you've owned and how you suddenly 'switch sides' with each purchase. I must have only been a year since you were an 'xbox man' and were so glad you made the switch again.
I suppose there are fanboys and then people who just throw themselves in and get attached to their only console. Why don't you just own both and play both sets of games...the only person who has lost out here is yourself by limiting the spectrum of games that you own/play.

Yeah, 43% more consoles ran out of warranty last week than normal.

Really irks you doesn't it, P Diddy?
I must be quite the professional to elicit such a response from a "neutral" gamer like yourself, eh?
