As Sony previously announced, you get a 'What's new' feature which replaces the near-useless 'Information Board', an updated friends list, new ways to display trophies and all sorts of other sweet shizzle.

Early downloaders have also discovered a selection of smaller changes Sony likes to leave unmentioned including, most pleasing to us, an option to output sound through multiple devices simultaneously, at last. Here's the list of hidden tweaks, thanks to PS LifeStyle.
Multi-Audio - Audio can now be output to multiple connectors simultaneously. You can set this option under [Settings] > [Sound Settings] > [Audio Multi Output].
Video Content Playback - During Video content playback, you can now use the right stick to play content in slow playback, fast reverse, and fast forward.
Settings Descriptions - Now below each setting option under the Settings tab on the XMB, there is now a brief description in small font.
New Start Up Logo - Upon starting up your PS3, you will be greeted with the new 'PS3′ Logo.
Copy/Paste Function - There is now a copy/paste function for the web browser, and messages.
Internet Connection Speed Test - Check your internet connection upload/download speed. Go to [Network Settings] > [Internet Connection Test]
Internet Browser Screen Capture Feature - Press Triangle on Internet Browser, then under File > Save Screenshot.
Custom Remote Play Settings - Manually set a device (such as a PSP system) to be used for remote play.

Speed/ping test is a really good idea. Alot of games on the 360 show it up in game, but I wish I had it so I could tell when my thieving flatmate is using torrents (despite saying she isn't filesharing) and giving my latency a beating.
Would stop me getting into a game of L4D and then having to quit because my ping is so low and it's lagging so badly.
Internet speed test? I can see a lot of angry calls to ISP companies over the next few days about the fact most people are not getting anywhere near the 20mb they're paying for. Good idea though, if it works properly. You'll actually know if its gonna be worth playing COD. It'd be good if games came with the minimum speed for stable online play printed on the box as well.

Thats just it my internet connection really isnt that bad, it will usually download a 100mb file in 3-4 minutes, granted its running a bit slower today but nowhere near the speed required to drag this download out this much, it must be sonys end because its certainly not mine. Id download it off their site if they had it updated but they dont.

Took me 5 minutes to download and install the update. According to the connection test I have 6.2mbps which is good coz my pc/laptop say I have 2. something when even BT say I get 6.5.

However, I can guarantee to you now that it'll take less than 10 minutes to download on my PS3.
Mine took 30mins on a 2mb connection. The only thing I don't like is the new look friends list. It just looks ugly and clunky. Currently watching Top Gear from the iPlayer

Some International student c*nt in my flat used to be perpetually downloading sh*t, with an average of 4-5 torrents on the go at once. So I used to unplug the b*stard in the early hours of the morning under stealth.
He used to wake up a think 'why hasn't my anime and hentai downloaded' the sad and stupid fool it caused all manner of arguments.

I downloaded the update this morning (about 8:45 I think) it took me 20 minutes. Daedleaus, I think you have a problem with your modem/router. I would to a hardware reset if I was you.
I found the LBP theme like other people on here on the USA Store for $2.99 (and yes, like a mug I brought it). Does look very nice though!

Are you using wifi on the PS3 sometimes it can be temperamental . My PS3 is about 5ft away from the router and cuts out for no reason but if I use a Ethernet cable works fine and I know it's not the PS3 as I took it back when I bought in case it was broke but it was excatly the same with a different one

If your internet speed is good for your 360 or Wii, then it shouldn't be any different for your PS3.
Very odd indeed. I'd maybe check how your internet is set up through the PS3 options.
I just downloaded it but I can't find the i-player anywhere, does it have to be activated or something?.
@ DAEDALUS anytime I download an update, it downloads normally till it gets to about 50-55%, it then shoots up to 100% in seconds, I'm guessing that's what happened.

What results do you get on your PC speedtest?
My 20mb Virginmedia slows down sometimes, switch off the router/modem and pop it back up. Or look at your PS3/router settings. Are the right ports open etc?

only took 5 mins to d/l and my connection is 2mb. it is nice, i like the dynamic themes. even though the lbp one isn't out for me yet. the font is too big in my opinion, i like my stuff very classy and subtle. the clock/battery improvement is long overdue so that is cool. overall it is nice and not that big a deal.

Welcome to the world of PS3 updates! Still it will be worth it, the PS3 does have some really good exclusives.

I was going mad looking for the iplayer shortcut but you just have to reboot your ps3 and it appears between the video and games lists,why did they have to change the start up music the new one sounds awful along with that new ps3 symbol
DAEDALUS79 do you not live in an area similar to mine? you live so far away from a broadband exchange that you can only get about half a meg download speed?? at most its a meg for me...pitiful i no. It does no matter how much i pay for unless virgin stick a cable line were i live and run broadband through that i cant get over a meg. Ive learnt to just download the updates off the ps3 website, however i must say that updates for ps3 and all its games take considerably longer than on the 360 its definatly wierd and is frustrating, as some updates are 500mb plus which will take 4 hours+......just think how painful it is just put urself in my shoes ull want to cry
Got mine down and installed in 10 - 15 minutes, no problems here. Watching Have I Got News For You on BBC Iplayer and I'm downloading a couple of demos. Seamless streaming too, I'm very happy with this update. :3
