Considering its not being developed by bethesda makes you wonder how long its been in development for already. Maybe they were developed in tandem.
Then again i don't know what else obsidian have been working on since KOTOR 2. I hope this doesn't come out till Xmas 2010. I'm well behind on my wishlist... My copy of Cod 4 arrives tomorrow! Well a good few of the original fallout team (Black Isle Studios) formed Obsidian. Never played 2 but Fallout 1 is an amazing game, it really sucks you into the harshness of living in a post apocalyptic world. I'd say they'll make sure they do a good job of this, im sure for some of these guys fallout is their baby.
If a mad max game is ever to be made it should be done in a similar vein to the fallout series. New Vegas makes it sound like an old GTA expansion pack, but at least they didn't go for something cheesy like Lost Vegas.
Any new Fallout sounds good to me, in theory... Wow, blindsided by that announcement. Hope this is good, sounds like it's in safe hands and my morbid fascination of rummaging through dead people's houses has not yet been quenched! Wow. That's some of the best news I've heard in a long while. Fallout 3 was a pretty decent title, all round, but could have done with better writing and a game world more reactive to player choice. Obsidian certainly have a fair amount of writing talent present, and seem to have a little deeper understanding of the importance of player choice. Could be a very good game indeed. They should have gone for Lost Vagueness instead, that would be interesting to see people off their nuts in ball gowns dancing around until the small hours. Happy times. This is utterly brilliant news. Not only did Obsidian/Black Isle do a lot of work on the original Fallout games, but they were making Fallout 3 before they lost the license to Bethesda.
Now we get a proper Fallout 3! ...licensed and comissioned by Bethesda, to be done "in the same style" as Bethesda's game, by a developer probably as notorious for buggy ass releases as Bethesda is.
Still, I'm looking forward to this. Maybe that will depend if they have access to Bethesdas Fallout 3 assets etc although I do have my reservations too. Fingers crossed this will be as good as Fallout 3 (GOTY in my opinion). Once again, C&VG videos make Safari crash.
I reckon they'll probably move towards making less of an epic (in terms of scale) game for release and focus on the installment/DLC route which seems to be quicker and more cost effective. Fallout 3 was good but i'd prefer a new Oblivion any day! :) well, new Elder scrolls you mean?...elder scrolls 5 is still set for release in 2010 also
as soon as TES4:Oblivion was released,it was announced they were working on TES5...it set in Skyrim

Cyrodiil(TES4)is in the middle,Morrowind(TES3) is off to the right and hammerfell(TES2)is of to the left, with Skyrim being on top and joining them all
Skyrim doesnt look as big as say Morrowind or Cyrodiil,so maybe they will have you traveling about over counties(whatever) That being Josh Sawyer, lead designer of the original Fallout3 (Van Buren), under development at BI before Interplay went all mental. Interesting.
Here's also hoping Chris Avellone, George Zeits and Kevin Saunders get involved, as well.
I expect a little tighter experience from this than Fallout 3. Not quite so huge in scope, but greater in overall depth. The dealine looks pretty tight and if Obsidian attempt something on the scale of FO3 they could easily become unstuck. I've still got so much to do in Fallout 3, it'll probably be a while before i get back to it. New Vegas looks like it could be interesting, if they could make some improvements to the AI and FPS engine I'd be very happy. |
