Heavy Rain confirmed for "early 2010" release

No-longer 2009's "most important" PS3 title, then...
Heavy Rain was this year's "most important" title for PS3 this year, according to former SCEE boss David Reeves at the Leipzig Games Convention in 2008. Only, it's not coming out this year.

Sony has confirmed to CVG: "It's currently scheduled for release in early 2010." This validates an earlier rumour that the game had been delayed from late 2009 to 2010 sparked by a Gametrailers video.

So no QTE-style murder mysteries on PS3 for Christmas. You'll just have to get jealous while watching the Official PlayStation Magazine boyos playing it in the video above, then.

Wise move. This is the kind of Game that could be lost in the run up to Xmas, the very same reason that Alan Wake shifted to Spring 2010 also.

The Holidays are the time of the Franchises and sequels not for releaseing new IP.

Stone Cold your spot on there!!

Agreed. Especially in Heavy Rain's case, it's shaping up to be a title that will divide opinion. Plus it gives me time to get a PS3 before it's released. 8)

Also, if I'm honest. I don't think the game looks all that good. Yes, graphically it looks magnificent; stunning in fact. But apart from that, I fear it could just be a pretentious Shenmue. I hope I'm wrong but I get the feeling that this will be a bit 6/10.

So that would now make 2010 the year of the ps3 then.

This year Sony's most important title is Uncharted 2 not Heavy Rain!

Good point, and I agree entirely that this is the reason it's been delayed but remember that games like GOW3, GT5, FFXIII and The Last Guardian will more than likely be released in spring next year so it could have just as much competition then. Although it's probably preferable to go up against all of them next year than to attempt to go up against MW2 this Christmas I suppose.

Yep, I have to agree with y'all. Also, I'd argue that Drakes 2 is the most important (for Sony) release this winter.

Heavy Rain may be important in terms of uniqueness/something new for gamers, but not in xmas sales. No siree.

Or maybe they've delayed it because it's not ready yet. It's not always a marketing decision, y'know :)

I know that MW2 will walk this Xmas (my only decision is which console to get it for), but it's not like Heavy Rain is the same genre or anything for them to be totally head to head.

That said, I'm tempted to agree with whoever it was who said outside of graphics it may turn out to be a major disappointment. My first turn-off was seeing QTEs used so frequently in such short video clips.

... apart from uncharted2, what big ps3 exclusive's do i have to look forward this year..?
Posted by Mark240473
Ratchet and Clank, White Knight Chronicles, Demon Souls (Maybe just USA - but you could import), MAG and the faintest chance of GT5. Not a bad list when you combine them with multiplatform games.

To be honest, most exclusives will struggle this winter because of established games like MW2, Bioshock 2, Assassins Creed 2, NFS, Fifa, PES, etc....

Personally, I am only interested in Uncharted 2 and Ratchet and Clank for PS3. Forza 3 for 360. All my other games will be multiplat.

Other games are doing similar things as well. Singularity would have been released around the same time as MW2, and it wouldn't have stood a chance against that. It'll now come out early 2010, just like this case. Except, it's not against another big game, it's just to maximise profits.

I'd have to say that Uncharted 2 is the only exclusive i'm looking forward to on any platform this year (well maybe Ratchet and Clank too if it actually comes out this year). ain't interested in the Halo universe anymore and Forza and GT just ain't my cup of tea. everything else is multi-platform and the only deciding factor in them is if they have MP, then its the 360. mostly everything else goes on the PS3.

Looks like I won't be getting a PS3 this year then.

I loved Fahrenheit the story side and the detective parts of it. The rest was just average matrix crap, Am not getting my hopes up for this one as the gameplay I've seen just looks like one big QTE and that is all the developers seen to go on about . And also this time if you miss a button press you wont die instantly . Honestly if thats the best they can come up with then i don't think this game is for me.

a little late their CVG i could of told you that after E3.
in a interview david cage said that heavy rain will be out in early 2010.
im assuming febuary because has their ever been a big AAA game released in january?
wont be march because GT5 and GOW3 are out then.
possibly april but thats to late for me.
theres 1 thing im worried about with this game.
what if i stuff up and die but i want to finish that scene?
than i have to replay the game doing everything exactly the same.
they should of given you the option of choosing if you want to say stuff it or nah ill have another go.
espechialy for a game like this, your going to die ALOT because well how are you supose to know theres a gun in the compartment?
you just have to remember from the earlier cut scene, if you dont you would waste the time trying to get out the window and boom your dead.
just seems stupid we all make mistakes we should have a second chance.

Seeing as there is about 8 games I want this year im pretty glad it's been delayed.
