The rumoured announcement of a 360 price cut in the wake of Sony's PS3 Slim move is expected to be confirmed tomorrow, say retail sources.
MCV reckons that the announcement will include word on a price drop for the Xbox 360 Elite model, the discontinuation of the Pro unit and changes to the Arcade SKU.

What? - like Mario?....the biggest selling franchise of all time (by a seriously large margin).
Smug Microsoft? Yes kinda, but most companies are. They busted there balls to get where they are and sadly there not that far ahead but to make the inroads they have into Sonys Playstation brand dominance is quite impressive.
I see both companies doing just aswell as each other and will continue to support both.

360 Pros- Excellent online experience Solid library of games Well priced Cons- Atrocious failure rate Not much variety in game choice (oriented towards FPS and TPS) Expensive online & accessories
Wii Pros- Cheap & cheerful Excellent first-party games (Zelda, Mario, Metroid) What good there is on the system is properly good, must-have AAA stuff. Cons- At best, a mixed online experience Lots of kiddy-oriented games, but you can get past this by, y'know, looking beyond that external veneer Inferior graphics to it's competitors
PS3 Pros- Excellent value for money (Blu-ray, free online, wifi etc) Free online Excellent and varied exclusive titles When done right, the best graphics Cons- Inferior online to the 360 Expensive at first Not as much exclusive DLC as 360

Kind of ironic that this news appears about the time Sony announce the release of the new PS3 Slim and a potential PS3 price cut. I am not sure why they would drop their prices even more though it is already pretty good value for money if you wanted that console. That said this could be all to do with perhaps another big Xbox announcement next year?

Looking forward to seeing the changes Microsoft make to it's SKU's. I much prefer my Xbox 360 to my PS3, the Live service is easily worth the £30 annual price-tag & the interface is simply more user friendly. Little Big Planet & Uncharted were great, but since then my PS3 has just been a shiny black paperweight. Yes, my 360 has had to be repaired once since launch and that week without it was a really looong time. The truth is though if it happened to my PS3, Sony could take months repairing it and I probably wouldn't notice. sad but true.

To state that the 360 doesn't have a variety is wrong. RTS, RPG's, Sports, Puzzle games, Side-scrolling shooters, Sandbox and fighting games all have great titles on the 360.

I have considered buying a PS3 a few times, and then realised that a) The exclusives are not good enough to justify buying the console, b) the online experience is FAR inferior and if paying for xbox live gets me a better experience then the price is peanuts and c) ALL of my friends have a 360. Not one has a PS3.
Get a better arguement than the hardware failures for a change and give it a rest. The fact is, even with the hardware failures, people are STILL buying the Xbox 360 over the PS3. What does that say about your beloved console?

I never said it was. I barely post here, but EVERY PS3 thread and EVERY Xbox 360 thread has this same guy preeching about how PS3 is the best thing since sliced bread, and won't take anyone elses view on board. I've played both consoles, I prefer the 360. It wouldn't suprise me if this guy has never picked up a 360 controller in his life. I'm happy to take on board 360's faults and I know it isn't perfect, and the PS3 has some great features. I am in no way a 'fanboy' of anything (except maybe blink-182) I just dislike how some people claim false facts as reality and use them in a one-sided, narrow minded arguement to make himself look big on the internet.
good to see ms has gotten itself into a position so it can react to the market when it needs to in order to stay on top of the competition.
The 360 offers the best opportunity to get into hd gaming for everyone. People on this site seem to have forgotten that the arcade system is still available for half the price of the ps3 and still plays the same games better than the ps3 can (proven by metacritic in many cases).
Online is not necessary for anyone just getting into gaming. Took me 6 months after having a 360 to even get online, so I was able to space out the initial cost, unlike the ps3 that forces its extras on everyone on day 1. Although anyone who has played a ps1 will be familiar with the same controler the ps3 insists on using, the 360 offers more natural feeling option that is obiously directed to the western audience who probably complaines of getting cramps while using the ps3 controller.

If you could merge all three into one super console. Now that'd be worth raving about.

They were always going to respond to sony's price cut. Well, Sony's price cut in other parts of the world, in the UK it's still pretty much the same price(shocking really). At £190 it could have cleaned up, but it's still basically the same price you could get it for if you shopped around. Nice to see Sony see the UK as a vital market

I own a Playstation 3, I also owned an Xbox 360 until RROD and decided to avoid a product that ultimately failed on me. (no i'm not a fanboy I just didn't want a product with a known, but at the time unrectified failure issue)
I actually sincerely hate the whole Fanboy balls!!! MS and Sony should hire some of you morons as a guerilla propaganda program, I mean get a life, there's more to life than tickling yourself whilst stroking your favourite console. Both the 360 and PS3 have great features and specs. I do however believe that Sony are going to ultimately pull it out of the bag, they have created a more powerful console and it has been said many times that there are no games out today that have truly stretched the PS3's potential. That said I believe that MS have something on the horizon, but I still feel that sony is going to edge it over the next year or so.
Now onto the Wii, I agree with some of the posters on here, it is a different type of console offering a different gaming experience and ultimately in my opinion is designed as an addition to the next gen console, a boyztoy if you will (no sexist comment intended). However onto the subject of this post a price cut of either console is always a bonus for the consumer, and I think MS know that the PS3 price cut is going to create a smaller gap in the market between MS and Sony. There are going to be tons of people in the market who never purchased a PS3 due to the price, as the 360 has been so accessible price wise for a while now, how many more customers can they generate with a few pounds price drop.

Tbh I can't see this having a major impact on the 360 selling many more, as its been cheap enough already for people to buy. The PS3 been cheaper well thats a different matter as I can see from a lot of forums that there are a lot of people very tempted to go out and buy a PS3 Slim.
