Modern Warfare 2 has dual wielding

Dual Desert Eagles shown, geeks excite
Everyone went a bit mental when Microsoft showed Master Chief picking up two weapons at once for the first time in Halo 2, while GoldenEye fans sniggered at the back.

Well now Infinity Ward has revealed that Modern Warfare 2 will also feature two-gun blasting - a first for the series.

IW community man Robert Bowling showed off wielding two Desert Eagle pistols - an ability being referred to as 'Akimbo' - during a single-player game at a recent GameCrazy show, much to the glee of attendees. But it won't cause balance issues, assures Bowling.

"Now to calm some initial fears of "OMG! Overpowered!" Akimbo is limited and balanced, just like EVERYTHING in the game," he explained.

"It's limited to sidearms, harder to aim than standard and you can't go ADS (aim down sights) since you have a weapon in each hand, among other balancing techniques, so don't freak out before you see it in action," he said (via IGN).

Just admit it, you're more excited than you should be. We saw the game in action last week and, yes, it's f***ing awesome. Read about that here.

I would be excited, but as the article itself said, Goldeneye did it years ago.

I was duel wielding in Killing Floor earlier and in all honesty it sucks. It might sound cool duel wielding but you put down more rounds per kill to actually be able to hit the target. Might sound cool but definately not a first choice thing for me so no it is not all glee for me!

Still s******ing. Goldeneye FTW

Unfortunate censorship on the main view there.

I am assuming it won't centor 'Saturday' just because it's got a turd in it Smile
kimoak on 25 Aug '09
Meh.

Dual wielding in Halo is cool...but the single guns are more powerful and have advantages (such as throwing grenades, scope) that it makes dual wielding kinda useless.
Robzy1990 on 25 Aug '09
Hmmm.... This could make it more fun to dual-wield, but let's be honest, what do you want in a CQB, Two Desert eagles, or a shotgun? I know I'd go for the shotgun any day of the week, much more reliable to hit a target on the first shot.
BIGAL-1992 on 25 Aug '09
dual wielding is pathetic. best suited to cheesy action games like duke nukem. what soldier goes about like arnie, a gun in each hand.
svd_grasshopper on 25 Aug '09
This is pathetic, IMO. This isn't Halo or UT or a farcical over-the-top shooter we're talking about... it's CoD. To have dual-wielding just turns the game into a mockery. I thought the whole point of CoD was to represent more true-to-life combat in the military. Anybody who has fired a gun in the military knows how pathetic, useless and completely counter-productive dual-wielding is in real life. In fact, most professional military people have a great hatred for the practice.
TerrorK on 25 Aug '09
I gotta say that i'm suprised you thought COD was a realistic military sim.

It's an arcade blaster if I've ever seen one. It just has an in depth XP system. It's hardly realistic to be honest mate.

People may scoff at this, but if it gives you loads of xp every 5 kills and you unlock a Golden Desert Eagle or something after 100 dual wield kills, then we'll all be doing it. Laughing

In GoldenEye you could duel-wield two shotguns Razz you could duel-wield every weapon infact, even rocket launchers, ahh those were the days, GoldenEye FTW indeed.

With this and 50 cent's appearance the game gets better everyday... no no it bloody doesnt!

i love how they've got this all wrong, they think people want dual wielding guns, rappers, and "real" night vision goggles

imo dual wielding makes things too complicated, especially when you have a million guns to choose from. in halo 3 i end up running around trying to find another gun to accompany the crap one i picked up.

Those were the days indeed, but still, I'll probably use Dual-Wielding occasionaly, as it's just not practical in a firefight when compared to any rifle, machine gun or shotgun in the game, and it's less accurate to dual-wield, so there.
BIGAL-1992 on 25 Aug '09

xboxtoolz you could at least learn to insult people in English! Evil or Very Mad
jonboy1969 on 25 Aug '09
lol, f**k off mr xbox. Dual-wielding is pointless, and stupid. I really hope this isn't going to be in multiplayer, because then there'd be at least half the team running around like John Rambo, shooting the s**t out of everyone and everything, giving away their teams position on the radar, and ultimately dying. Just keep it to single-player, PLEASE.

Cool relax, baby. maybe yous and may find a nice quite spot on COD4 (XBOX VERSOON) maybe BOG. may meet yous by big drrty tank, for a cuddle? (or spoon)
Cool

Goldeneye!?!? Marathon (ancient precursor to Halo) had dual-wielding weapons long before the movie was even released. Anyway, I think this sort of suits the over-the-top, action movie-related combat of Modern Warfare. If you're looking for a sim experience I think you'd be better off playing Operation Flashpoint (when it arrives). Modern Warfare very much panders to the action-demanding gamer than anyone looking for anything close to realistic combat. It's fun and exciting, but it's very much an arcade shooter.

Alsolutely SPOT ON! It's unrealistic and cheap...
ei8hty5ive on 25 Aug '09
Sigh, I'm looking forward to this game less and less as the weeks progress ...

Yes Modern Warfare 1 wasn't exactly super realistic, but at least it was in the realms of reality, but this one ... you seem more like a Hollywood action hero, and now they've added dual wield sigh Rolling Eyes

The whole point of CoD is to provide entertainment for people. It is not in any way realistic except the settings and weapons. Other than that it's completely fantastical.

Oh wait, I bet the military love the idea that you can get shot, but hide behind a wall for ~10 secs, and you're completely fine again. I bet they practice and love this oh so very realistic military experience. (You bloody moron).
supersonic395 on 26 Aug '09
Where have i seen this... drivable vehicles, sticky grenades, dual wielding... what's next? hijack-able vehicles lol

Proof that MW is taking the Hollywood approach once again. Not a problem bring on the chaos.
crashmer on 26 Aug '09
Infinity Ward have said in the past this game isn't trying to be a combat sim, but rather an action orientated movie-like experience. I can't believe anyone considered this game realistic. Or actually believes dual guns is going to ruin it. I'd rather see everyone using dual Desert Eagles than a single cat using a sniper rifle.
Jensonjet on 26 Aug '09
WTF are they doing?

Dual wielding, sticky grenades, 50 fecking cent!!! Mad

Getting worried that this'll seem a bit too arcadey after playing Halo!
English Shmuppet on 26 Aug '09
Whilst everyone was foaming at the mouth over the prospect of Modern Warfare 2, I was quietly concerned... Infinity Ward had made pretty much the biggest game of this generation, perhaps beyond, how were they going to top it? My fear was that they may catch 'Hollywood Fever' and take the approach that by putting MORE MORE MORE in, it will automatically make it better. Naturally we all know this is very rarely the case.

Then I saw the skidoos. The Aliens-esque body heat detectors. Now, the dual wielding.

I have no doubt the game will have quality, this is Infinity Ward after all, but dual wielding? that just sucks. The game is called 'Modern Warfare', perhaps someone could point to any soldier that would do this in modern day combat situations?

Admittedly it would be awesome, and hilarious, but also FATAL.

And so my fears would appear somewhat justified.
FlimFlam on 26 Aug '09
I hope Chow Yun Fat is the main character, then it would all make sense, Modern Warfare: John Woo edition!

Next thing they'll add is bullet time or reverse time, like they had in GRID
shotaro_kaneda on 26 Aug '09
Well...I suppose at least I have another reason to justify my imminent purchase if Killzone 2. Cool
English Shmuppet on 26 Aug '09
Wow from bulls**t bullet penatration in the 1st game to dual weilding in the 2nd, i really want to love this game but think this is just going to be to arcadey, dont get me wrong this will be a great game, i guess im just looking for a realistic FPS game to play just hope they make a hardcore mode with no perks availible, with the news of operation flashpoint only being only 4vs4 on console i dont know what im going to be playing hope they make the new ghost recon 1st person on console next year.
NEOnburN9 on 26 Aug '09
I think I will buy KZ2 instead as people seem to think it's more relaistic than Modern Warfare - a bit ironic! Confused
