GT5 out this year, says Gamescom brochure

Official brochure gives racer Q4 2009 release
An official Gran Turismo 5 leaflet, apparently handed to attendees at last week's Gamescom in Germany, pins Sony's flagship racer with a Q4 release.

Despite CVG being told by Sony reps on the show floor that there was still no release date for it, the leaflet below (snapped by Rise of Games) gives us the answer wanted to hear.

Watch tons of other great game videos in HD over on our video channel!

According to translations, the leaflet also says the game will feature over 1000 cars, which is probably what's taken Polyphony so long.

To everyone's surprise, the game was actually playable on the Gamescom show floor. Read our hands-on here.

i'll believe it when i see it, but it would make sense if sony wanted to combat MW2 this winter (unless there's somekind of bundle in the works) releaseing GT5 would definately help bolster sales of the PS3 this christmas.

Definitely. I don't want to start up that argument from the Fable 3 thread again, but I do think that GT is Sonys' big 'System Seller'....GT3 sold something like 10M copies - not bad for a single platform release that isn't a Nintendo product.

I could well believe that it's pretty close - there's been so much released in the way of images and videos...the only thing they haven't done is confirmed a release date.

I want GT5 so badly now. This was on my most wanted list when I got a PS3 and it still is. Kazunori Yamauchi has never let me down before and the 1000+ cars and 60+ tracks say that he won't this time.
lordirongut on 24 Aug '09
Releasing it just before xmas is a wise move.

Just like FF13 in Japan.

I agree that GT5 would be massive for Sony this Christmas, but I don't think it has to counter MW2 in any way because that game is a multiplatform release.

I prefer to wait until info is confirmed, but 1-ups preview of GT5 is quite intriguing.

According to them, the damage model is not yet finished. However, whilst many are saying that not all of the cars will have damage, 1-ups translation says that not all cars will have interior damage!

Does this mean that all cars now have exterior damage? Will the Rally spec cars have full interior damage?.... Shocked

If this is true, then I am buzzin'!

Somebody put me out of my misery and confirm these details! As others have said, it would be strange to release the game with only a set amount of cars having exterior damage.....

This is the only issue that puzzles me now. Still, I am pretty sure that Sony will announce all of the official details in Tokyo, as well as the exact release date, of which December 09 looks all but certain.

Very Happy

That is a bit odd, if true.

There's been some pretty differing information about the damage model in GT5, so it's hard to really know what to believe.

I guess - if it does get released this year - we'll find out soon enough.

Oh - and I agree about MW2....I suspect Sony won't mind too much if they're getting sales of GT5 and MW2 this Christmas. Let's face it, both could shift a few consoles for them.

Eurogamer are saying there’s ‘more than 20 tracks’ which seems a little low number to be putting on a ‘more than’ figure, and a little pony if there’s NASCAR and WRC as well. Still, I’d imagine there’s a lot of false information floating around, if it is out in 2009 shouldn’t there be some official information released by Sony, in English?

Cool pic. Laughing Is it born from Drakes quip in the new Uncharted?
Mark240473 on 24 Aug '09
It depends how you want to define your tracks.
20 tracks sounds more realistic, but it's possible they'll have more than 60 combos on them.

Take Silverstone, for example. One track, but comes with Club, International and GP configurations. They might even include reversed versions of each. So 6 combos on one track or 6 tracks really depends on how you want to sell it.

I'm still not convinced we'll see it this year, but I'm hopeful.
Dajmin on 24 Aug '09
I said it before, and Il say it again, if this game is coming this year Sony should be telling people. To me Sony doesnt sound too confident.
roland82 on 24 Aug '09
All the different info coming out about this game, makes it sound rushed?

Why have we not had one conclusive piece of info.

Eurogamer said 1000 cars with only 120 having mapped interiors...eh? 20 tracks...eh?

Sony need to start talking and telling the truth, either it is out this year, with everthing or its not.

maybe they plan to release it half finished?

I'm not haveing a go at the PS3 but christ Sony can't organise themselves out of a wet papaer bag.
Mortey on 24 Aug '09

i think with a game as well known as GT they don't have to say s**t about it. it'll sell probably more than any other exclusive the PS3's had so far and is definetly a system seller. this is the sort of game people will queue through the night for.

still i'll probably be renting this game before even thinking of buying(same goes for Forza3) as the previous versions haven't been my cup of tea(tbh i think it was the pinball effect of cars bouncing off walls with no penalty. plus i usually like my racers to be more arcadey, aka fun.)and the prologue just bored me. i'll see how the damage effects the game first.
ensabahnur on 24 Aug '09
The damage model sounds a little basic.

Check it out

Video of the damage model in action

Some more details of the game

Apparently 60 confirmed tracks, with another 20 un-announced, 170 premium model cars and 830 standard models, and it looks like damage is for race cars only, they couldn't get the licence for all of the road cars so they didn't bother with any of them.
nottsville on 24 Aug '09
I've had all the GT games except for gt4 prologue and I wasn't looking forward to GT5 at all but now after seeing all the videos it's my no1 most wanted game this xmas! GT5 is gonna be huge Very Happy

i thought Q4 didnt mean Q4 of the calender year but the financial year.. meaning this could come out anytime up till april...

hope im wrong though!
Tobal on 24 Aug '09
they dont need to "combat" MW2... its out on ps3 too. saying that wont help shift a system or two?!

especially with the slim out there. GT5 and MW2 and a new system just out.
svd_grasshopper on 24 Aug '09

Nope, you're right. Q4 leads up to April next year.

Nobody has said anything about license problems, so maybe you dreamed that one up, even if it does end up being true. Confused

Maybe, as I mentioned regarding the 1-up preview, that those premium cars have interior damage and that all cars have exterior damage. There does seem to be a lot of confusion, but Sony are saving GT5 for the Tokyo game show, so that is why everything seems vague at the moment.

It says Q4 2009 on the brochure. Since when was April 2010 in 2009?

Folk really need to read first and type later.

were not all business men. whatever that retarded thinking is to say the last quarter is actually the first quarter.
svd_grasshopper on 24 Aug '09
I thought I'd seen a release date of the 29th of Dec..........
which is a really odd time to release anything really. Though it was for a Stateside release, fingers crossed that we'll get it sooner in the UK. Putting it out before Christmas makes more sense and follows the 'We can release it anytime' quotes that have been all over the net.

In a Financial Year, Q4 could mean any 3 month period. It's totally up to the company when they want the year to run.

Typically, Q4 ends in April....so, Q4 2009 would mean between February 2009 - April 2009.

Smile
ParmaViolet on 24 Aug '09
Q4 more than likely refers to the japanese financial year. The fourth fiscal quarter (Q4) 2009 ends 31st march 2010 so nottsville and Tobal are correct, although hopefully it won't be that long
Monkeymanboy on 24 Aug '09

I didn't say anything about the game coming out then, i said in the business world, 99% of people put in their end of year accounts in April, the end of Q4.

Folk really need to read first and type later.
nottsville on 24 Aug '09
In a show open to the public, why would they base it on the Financial year? To the majority of people 2009 ends on December 31st, not in April.
lordirongut on 24 Aug '09
Waaaaaiit! So some cars have damage and some don't? If that's true that's as dumb as Forza 2's 24 hour racing without night racing.

At least it'll keep the bumper car simulation alive. Do'h!
MrPirtniw on 24 Aug '09

Well, it's probably not based on the financial year. I know Square Enix and Capcom have the end of Q4 as December. I mearly stated some companies run Q4 into the following year.

If Sony do and GT5 ends up coming in late, they can release it early next year and turn round and say "well....we meant Q4 as in the financial year".....he he
nottsville on 24 Aug '09
I'm not sure what all the upset is about, I thought everyone knew that the financial year always runs from April to April (end of March if you want to be picky as its 01-Apr to 31st Mar (across the globe too)).
Its not a new thing and it happens everywhere! Its not even as if the end of December is the start of a New Year for everyone, the Chinese use a different date.
So 4th Q. could mean the end of March next year, it could be Jan or Feb to.
Sorted!

Lets hope its before Christmas though, it'd be a shame to miss out on all those potential xmas sales.

you what? companies can have their year end when they choose. it seems 31 march is a common year end as is 31st december but it depends on sony really or the dev.

i'd also like to point out that in most financial years the year is the year it ends in so Q4 2009 cannot be in 2010 unless its worked out differently.

any bets that it will be announced around the release date of Forza 3?

That'd mean that they'd really only have about 2 months to announce a release date and get the copies out to the shops.....I suspect December would be more likely, but I still think it's a little further out than that.

Anyone know if it will have wet weather racing this time?. Or changeable weather during races for that matter?.

From memory, the PS3 version was meant to be the definitive version the first time round?

Who was the b*stard that brought up 'MW2'?

That person has caused all manner of hell here, when I see MW2 I think of Mech Warrior 2 for some reason not Modern Warrior 2
