Killzone 2 Guide Pt. 2

Guide: Campaign guide Pt. 2
Follow us as we walk you closer to Vasari and the final showdown on Helghan. Here's part two of PSW's guide to Killzone 2's main campaign.

MISSION FIVE: SALAMUN BRIDGE

BRIDGE EAST

This bridge is littered with anti-vehicle obstacles that are just perfect for pro-infantry assaults. You will suffer a much longer fight if you don't move from cover to cover, running up to close in on the enemy's position. Make use of the time spend running by reloading on the trot.

Either take out the machine gun nests using grenades or by flanking to one side and attacking from outside its arc of fire. The nest to the small shelter on the right contains a Grenade Launcher. Pick it up and follow the waypoint that will take you beneath the bridge and on to an anti-aircraft gun that has been causing ISA all sorts of troubles.

AIR DEFENCE 22-12ILC

You are going to face Helghast troops hiding behind cover as well as the AA gun that is being used to blast ISA troops. It's ok, though, because you've got a Grenade Launcher and can use it to take out the troops while a nearby weapons rack will furnish it with extra ammunition.

Rain explosive death upon your enemies and swap to standard arms to mop up any the explosions may have missed while moving forward and ducking behind cover. Lob a grenade at the AA gun and move up to its location.

You'll be told to use the AA gun against more Helghast but you should be warned that it makes a very obvious target so you'll be advised to use standard arms to kill any enemies that pose an immediate threat before climbing on board the gun and finishing the rest with some truly devastating firepower.

Now get off your ass and follow te waypoint to find the bridge control mechanism. Use the mechanism and you will enable the Nemesis convoy to make their way down Salamun Bridge.

BRIDGE WEST

Now you'll have to fight on the bridge yet again. Helghast with RPGs are your main concern since they are the greatest threat to the convoy's integrity. Also note friendly tanks will only advance if you do, so push on between points of cover and make sure you aren't standing in front of one of your own tanks or, should you trigger an advance, you'll get run over - and that's really, really, really frustrating.

The bridge has plenty of Missile Launchers on it, as well as Sniper Rifles. On the left of the bridge you'll see a small control shed that, should you run for it, provides excellent cover and thereby an ace sniping spot.

When all the Helghast are dead and you get to the buggy you will trigger a cut-scene. You'd expect to have to drive the buggy yourself, but thankfully you are saved such tedium and so you will automatically arrive outside Radec's Academy where, if you look up between the building's red banners, you will see a Helghast Symbol. Shoot it, and enter the Academy's entrance hall. Run straight in and take the stairs to the mezzanine level where you will find it a lot easier to shoot Helghast that would otherwise have caught you in a genuine kill zone.

RADEC ACADEMY

It's quiet, too quiet, so just follow the waypoint through the Academy where it will become noisy, too noisy. The ATAC that attacked you in a previous cut-scene will make its presence known as you run like hell to the rooftop to deal with it.

ACADEMY ROOFTOP

Now that your handily separated from other members of Alpha Squad it's time to deal with the mid-game boss - the ATAC. Immediately pick up the Rocket Launcher and swap to your pistol.

The ATAC will attack from your front, right and left so make sure you are aware where it is (this is where a decent sound system will pay dividends) and keep the concrete column between you and it.

When the ATAC flies to either the right or left take appropriate cover and shoot the blue power nodes it will hover above. The resulting explosion of energy will stall the ASAC and enable you amble time to launch a missile attack at it. Try and fire a missile without pausing the ATAC and it will simply dodge out of the way.

If you run out of missile ammo or find this method of assault too scary then run toward one of the pwer nodes, decend some steps and you will find and underground tunnel that will provide even more protection that the column above.

There are missiles down there too, so you can shoot the power nodes with the pistol and follow up with a missile strike with relative safety.

Well done, you've just kicked the ATACs shiny metal ass and, as the convoy approaches the academy, it's looking as if ISA are about to finally get a decent whiff of victory.

But oh no, what's this. Just as the convoy gets close a massive bullshit machine rises from the ground and destroys it with lightning. Well that's just cheap, and so Sev is sent out to find out where the device gets its power from and follows its power lines the remote village of Suleja.

MISSION SIX: SULEJA VILLAGE

BADLANDS

Welcome to the badlands, so called because... there really isn't much to do which is bad - for an action game. Follow the waypoint and notice that there's no one to kill... yet.

SULIJEVA NORTH

And on you go following Rico through a deserted village where an ISA infantry has gone missing and is presumed dead. Rico will find some blood trails at a doorway and instantly know that such a sight suggests bad things. Go through the door and enter a complex that will lead you to the Maintenance Office.

MAINTENANCE OFFICE

Now things are going to get tasty, very tasty indeed. You'll find a weapons rack holding a VC21 Boltgun. Pick it up and get used to its weight because it is about to become your new best friend. Press the button on the far wall and pick up the Intel. Once the switch has been pulled another door will open.

Exit the maintenance office and battle the next set of Helghast by killing them with a single bolt that will make your target fly backward and impale them on background scenery. If that isn't pleasing enough for you then you've got to love the way the bolt will then explode and cause minor splash damage to all around.

Now follow the waypoint into an underground bunker where you will find giant spiders that will zap you with electricity should you get too close to them. Take them out with a single shot from your pistol and move on through.

VOJISLAV MINING FACILITY

Once you exit the underground bunker you will find that you have arrived in a near-perfect sniper ally where Helghast Scouts have taken up position and will kill you with a single shot if you let their targeting lasers make contact with you. The Boltgun has an impressive range, and can take out a few snipers with ease.

Run to the left of the map and sneak up through the narrow walkways of the facility and you will be able to get the drop on more snipers while keeping cover between you and the snipers located on the left of the ally. If you are feeling especially fancy you will be able to find a sniper with his back turned to you who you can stab with your knife.

Follow the waypoint and you will find long metal walkway that terminates with humongous antenna that you need to activate. Take the path below the walkway and you'll easily get to the antenna's control.

Activate it, then go about meeting up with Alpha Squad . On the way back to the mining facility you'll have to deal with more Helghast but if you take cover to the left and move on through the corrugated iron scenery you won't have to fight them face-to-face and can get a far superior angle of attack. Navigate above their position and rain death from above.

Follow the waypoint back to Suljeva Village and find out that, horror upon horrors, Alpha Squad have been taken by Colonel Radec and his properly unformed men. You are going to have to rescue them, so follow the waypoint and get ready to see what heroics will do for Garza's survival prospects.

WAYSTATION 14

Pick up a Light Machine Gun and use it while crouching to take out Helghast at a distance. You'll now know that the blue lightning is powered by a mineral unique to the Helghast home world - Petrucite.

In another dumb move on behalf of your enemy you will see that they store volatile Petrucite canisters all over the place and one shot is all that's needed to set the stuff off and cause massive damande to anyone nearby.

Avoid direct contact by taking pathways around enemies and shoot them from their side. Keep your head, be methodical and you will find yourself on the Petrucite mine train in no time.

MISSION SEVEN: THARIS REFINERY

SULJEVA MINETRAIN

Sev and Rico must take control of the Helghast train if they have any chance of finding their captured buddies alive and that means getting involved in a classic bit of first-person shooting that only being forced up the narrow confines of a train can provide.

For reasons unknown you will start the mission with only your pistol as weapon, but the first Helghast you kill will drop a Sub-Machinegun that has enough rounds left in it (should you kill its previous owner quickly enough) to kill another Helghast - this time one with a Shotgun. Move down the train and take the steps that lead to a higher level where you will find a weapons rack that has more SMG and Shotgun ammunition.

Take more stairs and you will enter a compartment overlooking a Helghast position. Look! They are standing right next to Petrucite canisters! Shoot the blue canisters for a speedy set of kills and move on to find another weapons rack, this time one that will provide you with an Assault Rifle.

Move down the train with your new rifle and use its decent killing range to take out some more infantry units and then quickly pick up a nearby rocket launcher and take out the tank. Take out the Helghast attacking with RPGs and other more basic grunts before entering the driver's coach where Rico will use his great diplomacy skills to persuade the driver to stop the train.

THARIS STATION

Rico and Sev split up, but not before Rico opens fire on some unsuspected Helghast and then has the audacity to complain that you've lost the benefit of surprise. Move toward the waypoint and note that there's a Helghast Symbol on the side of the train to your left. Shoot it, then enter the station to your right and follow the blue power cables. You'll fall through the floor and into a different section - the lower Refinery Complex.

LOWER REFINERY COMPLEX

Shoot the spider that should be harassing you and then blast the Petrucite power box in the next room to stop the electricity from blocking your path. Move onward and you will see enemy units visible through a door to your left. Blast them through the doorway before moving through it and dealing with any stragglers that are left using automatic fire and look to the left and shoot the blue power box.

You can now take the path that was obstructed and run up some stairs. There's nothing of note up here, but you will now have access to a lift that will take you down to do battle with yet another Heavy Weapon Trooper, but this time once that's armed with a gun that blasts electricity that can kill you quickly. This HWT is incredibly tough, but also incredibly stupid so run away from it and look above you where you will see containers being transported.

Wait until the Heavy Trooper is below a container, then shoot the container and it will fall on him and, just like before, make him expose the fuel tanks on his back. Shoot the tanks, and then reload while you look for more cover and repeat the process until he is finally dead. Follow the waypoint to the ladder and climb up into the complex.

PROCESSING COMPLEX

Kill the Helghast (you should be pretty good at this now) and look out for a weapon that will make the next few sections incredibly easy. It's the VC5 Electricity Gun, just like the one used by the Heavy Weapon Trooper you've just killed.

This beauty features infinite ammunition supplies and can zap entire groups of enemies at once, and at a decent range. Do not swap it for anything else until you are forced to because you've got some big, fat, killing to do. Take the ladder up into a transportation bucket and get taken to the next section.

CROSS-FACILTY SHIPPING

Although you can reload the Electricity Gun as often as you want without having to find any extra ammunition it does take time to charge to full capacity, and so you'd be advised to press reload whenever you have a free moment.

The more frequent the reloads, the less time the reload will take. Duck into the transportation bucket and pop up to unleash electric death on every Helghast you encounter. Look out for a blue box that should be zapped to allow you to continue on your way. The bucket will open and you will fall to the floor. With the Electricity Gun at hand the next section is super simple.

TRANSPORTATION CONTROL

Follow the waypoint to the lift while using the Electricity Gun to take out flying Sentry Bots with incredible ease. Take the lift and swap to pistol to shoot any spiders because they've been mutated by the mysterious Helghan mineral and are immune to electricity. Meet up with Rico in Transportation Control where you'll also find some INTEL. Follow Rico to Central Observatory.

CENTRAL OBSERVATORY

You've finally found Evelyn, Garza and the rest of Alpha. They are being interrogated by Radec and are about to be executed. Things are looking grim, but you won't have to worry about a solution since Rico will quickly lose his cool and charge in - guns a blazing.

He'll kill all the Helghast for you as Radec escapes, but his aiming is too aggressive and clumsy and some stray shots catch Garza. He's not going to get to the next section quickly, but if you have kept the Electricity Gun you'll have no problem following the waypoint, destroying multiple Sentry Bots and Helghast with ridiculous ease.

THARIS AERIAL DOCK

Fry more Helghast with the Electricity Gun and when Evelyn has unlocked the door to the tower go in and climb the stairs where you'll find a sniper rifle. Alpha are now being attacked by a mass of Helghans who are too far away for the E Gun to be much use, so snipe them while waiting for an ISA transport to take you back to The New Sun and feel slightly upset that Garza dies of his wounds. Damn you Rico!

MISSION EIGHT: THE CRUISER

LANDING BAY

The Helghast are bringing the fight directly to the ISA fleet that's orbiting their planet. Take the elevator up towards the bridge and be prepared for enemy contact as soon as the lift reaches its destination. Ready some grenades and use them on the Helghast infantry that will burst through a wall.

Then get back to using standard arms and standard tactics and be aware that these enemies will try and get close to work you over with knives so make sure you are never caught short reloading and reload as often as you can. Follow the waypoint onto the Bridge where you will meet Jan Templar who has a special request.

BRIDGE

Templar will tell you that you need to use the ships AA guns manually since the ship's battle computer has been buggered. Follow the waypoint and get ready to man the big guns.

POWER ROOM

You'll encounter another Heavy Weapon Trooper and Helghast equipped with flamethrowers. Killing the HWTs should be a synch by now, but be careful of being caught in flames. Kill all enemies and follow the waypoint to Air Traffic Control.

AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL

It's just a matter of following the waypoint and getting to the AA guns. Run like your life depends on it, which it very much does.

CORE ELEVATOR

Climb into the gunner's seat and take care of as many Helghast ships as possible. Don't forget to aim in front of ships that are at a distance while ones nearby can be targeted directly and will explode easily once your rounds make contact.

Use short bursts to conserve ammunition or will be in danger of running out and since you've come so far that would be plain embarrassing. Once the attack has been repelled, follow the waypoint to Emergency Stairwell C.

EMERGENCY STAIRWELL C

Run for your life through the waypoints and pick up a Shotgun on route so you can make fast one-shot close-up kills on any Helghast you'll encounter. Don't worry about killing them all - just run and gun when you can.

LAUNCH BAY

Run through the waypoints to encounter a scene in which Radec is trying to persuade Templar to give up the New Sun's nuclear codes. Jan won't give them up and takes a few bullets to his gut but still has enough life in him to deactivate the ships engines, casing the cruiser to fall toward the planet. His death will not be in vain, so don't feel too bad. The mission will end as the remnants of Alpha escape to the planet's surface.

MISSION NINE: MAELSTRA BARRENS

CARGO IMPACT SITE

Follow the waypoint and climb into an EXO suit and get ready to take control of what is, in all intents and purposes - a mech. Using its machineguns and missiles decimate the enemy forces making sure that you prioritise and Helghast armed with RPGs.

INDUSTRIAL GHOST TOWN

Continue your killing rampage but don't rush in as it is easy to find yourself being shot to pieces by missiles and grenades.

GRAVE OF THE NEW SUN

You'll encounter some enemy tanks in area slightly above your position. Don't climb to their level but use the brow of the hill as cover. If you were in a tank you'd call this technique 'Hull Down'. Stomp on through and get ready for a rather disappointing finale as you attempt to finally abduct the Helghast Emperor.

MISSION TEN: VISARI PALACE

LAZAR HIGHWAY

Alpha will only advance when you do, so you will have to push on through taking cover where you can while fighting in a manner that should be second nature by now.

OUTER DEFENCES

You'll have to personally take out four defensive towers before you can move on to the Palace. Use Rockets to take out the gunners than man the towers and rush up into each tower and kill anyone who survived the rocket blast. Set the charge and run out, detonating the explosives when you have reached a safe distance.

As well as a mass of standard Helghast troopers you'll also have to heal with a duo of Heavy Weapon Troopers. The good news is that they really don't like being shot with missile launchers so you won't have to worry about shooting them in their heads and then in their fuel tanks. Just use missiles.

INNER COUTYARD

There are ATACS all over the place, but you aren't here to fight them so run on through blasting them with missiles when possible and peg it to Autarch's Sanctum.

AUTARCH'S SANCTUM

Now that you've reached sanctum you are going to finally get to fight Radec, but not before you've exterminated his personal guard. They will storm in through the main doors, so hide behind cover near Rico and shoot them. It's a standard fight so far, but when Radec tell his men to shoot the chandeliers make sure you are not standing under any.

After this stage of the assault the stairwells to the upper mezzanine level will open up so run up there and find two weapons racks - both containing Grenade Launches. Use the launchers to pound the enemy that are on the ground floor and pick up the Sniper Rifle to take care of the Helghast that will assault you from the far end of the mezzanine.

Pick up the Assault Rifle to finish of the rest and get ready to fight Radec. Ever had a boss fight against an enemy that has a personal cloaking device?

Well you will now since that's exactly the technique Radec chooses to use. He will seem to appear out of nowhere and does seem to enjoy trying to get close to you so he can use his knife.

Keep on the lookout for him and walk backwards when possible. Radec will appear and you will be able to get in a few shots before he vanishes again. Keep on the move, don't let him sneak up behind you and you'll not find his demise that tricky.

Now that Vadec is dead move on to find the Emperor who will tell you that he is the only one from stopping the Helghast from somehow being a lot worse than they already are.

Killing him would leave a vacuum of power that would be filled with something far worse, which is excuse enough for Rico to shoot him to death on the spot just as more massive Helghast ships arrive to tell you that there is certainly going to be a Killzone 3. The war is far from over, but this chapter is defiantly at an end.

You've not had that telly long! Don't do it captain!

Can't help with that part as I am at the courtyard section. Sorry.

I think that when I go for the complete all levels without dying trophy, I'll stick to trooper difficulty. I think I have died nearly 100 times on veteran!

I was watching you in multiplayer the other night using spectator mode. You were a medic and it was good fun to watch. I couldn't join because the game was full. I'll try and join up with you this week.
Posted by headspin
lol, ive only had the telly since boxing day, i couldnt do it to it, love it too much!!!

i didnt even realise there was a spectator mode, ill check that out tonight, i know the games you were on about when id just got the medic capability, i played dogshit in those games cos i was too concerned about reviving people and getting killed in the process lol, im gonna take the ability off i think and go back to normal as i get loads more kills that way... deffo hook up for some games this week mark!!!
Posted by themadjock
Add me to that list - I get to the knife asssain wave and they get me most times. I too tried that about 40 times yesterday and had to give up - Hopefully do it tonight!
Posted by headspin
thats the ones who all storm upstairs isnt it just before the rpg guys come out, i always save the grenade launcher for them and cane 2 or 3 of them together, i dont give em chance to get near me lol. im gonna give it a go after ive had some grub when i get home, ill probably do it first time knowing me, im always better at a hard part in a game if i turn it off and come back to it later. good luck anyway!!!

There are RPG guys after that!!

oh yes... 4 of the f*%kers!!!! had me tearing my hair out earlier, sniped 2 of them and thought that was all of em, but theres 2 more and one got me!!!! i just calmly pressed start, then scrolled down to 'quit', and went and played some multiplayer .... wouldnt like to think what id have done if i hadnt have done that lol.... i watched a walkthrough video here

http://www.gameanyone.com/video/123453/3

and they claim the guy is on veteran but i only count 2 rpg guys and the rockets impact doesnt quite kill him where as it kills me outright so i think its on normal on the vid, although i did pick up a tip off it and thats to use the helghast machine gun as much as possible and that takes care of all the guys that run upstairs better than anything, just be wary after youve taken 2 of them that rush on the right or left that 2 more are on their way from the other side so rush them straight away after killing the first 2, then the rpg guys arrive, id advise you to take some medication or something at this point as you'll feel very violent lol....

ps- send me another friend request cos i saw the friend invite and thought you were just a random who'd tried to add me and deleted it (sorry )

The balcony section on the Radec fight is the hardest, cheesiest, cheapest, most broken moment in a video game I have ever played.

2 nights and 40 tries later suicide seems tempting...

 I see why you hate it now

You know the stairs you went up to get to the second floor. (facing Radec) Go to the one on the left, theirs loads of cover from the the rockets and the AI scripts will make any enemy entering the stair well go up the wrong way with there backs to you and with no near cover. Provided they didnt see you.

It should be very easy from then on.
